Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

It was brought to my attention the existence of an article confirming what I've said previously about the change in direction for Galaxy's Edge occurred after TFA. I think you'll enjoy the irony of GE being adjusted based on the success of TFA, but then tailored around the post TLJ storyline (as developed by Rian Johnson and the Lucasfilm Story Group).

Apologies for this being an older article. I just was made aware of it.

That site makes it sound like Galaxy’s edge is the worst thing Disney has ever created...bad reporting makes everything seem so much more worse then what it actually is.
That may be the worst site on the web. They are anti anything that could be considered female or diverse in any way. You should have seen the articles they wrote about brie Larson and captain marvel. They are the portion that hate the new SW trilogy solely because it has a female lead and a diverse cast. They are trolls.

I doubt the sourcing of that site's article. Just form the WIFI comments. While technically true, going upwards of 15-20 access point connections, network reliability can start to get flaky, with in the ride they are going to have dedicated access points to control the ride and due to the length of ride, they will probably need multiple AP with in the ride itself. Even accounting for a AP doing multiple duty of controlling the ride car and providing network access for guests within the ride, you are not going to overload one single AP that easily. Secondly, any network engineer worth his salt would easily design in multiple AP's with separate network traffic between the guest network and the ride network. Most commercial AP WIFI equipment has multiple radios and virtual lan segmenting built in so ene the 'single access point' is really acting as a multiple access point with more than 1 radio running at teh same time each running different channels to separate the network traffic.
As much as we might like to rag on Disney for things, they certainly did not use residential grade networking equipment for RotR.

Now , could they be having WIFI problems of some sort? Sure, I'd buy that but what is actually going on is probably much more complicated. Heck, being inside a metal box structure, they may be getting ghost signaling bouncing all over the place. Maybe they need to adjust the signal drop-off between the clients and AP's so the clients handoff between AP's better. Who knows? (Besides the Imgagineers working on them.)

While there may be some setbacks, 1 week isn't the end of the world, except to the people the scheduled a trip of RotR opening day.

Honestly the rumors on this are just silly at this point.

Some people swear on their mother’s life it’s wifi issues.

Some preach it’s pucks in the deck itself.

Others are saying absolutely NOT it’s ada compliance problems.

which popcorn vendor are people listening to?!

...geez try searching “star wars galaxy's edge“ on youtube. It’s a shame I can’t block all these pathetic channels.

EDIT: Imagine all just common people searching Galaxy’s edge and see these videos...I really hope that doesn’t happen.

Another thing I forgot to mention in one of my previous posts (about this weird obsession with the land having to be OT)...WE ALL KNEW THIS WAS A NEW PLANET for at least a year or so.

I barely heard anyone saying “mistake”, “needs to be OT”, “needs area music” when all of this was announced. Everyone was excited over the prospects. Then TDA messed up the marketing, opened early to get a double bounce of people with the B attraction only, and suddenly, because it wasn’t packed to the gills (which we are all happy about since we can, ya know, ENJOY IT), it becomes the “IT THING” to do and create this false narrative about being a failure and here’s why & “look how smart I am by pointing it out”.

EVERY THEME PARK IN ORLANDO has had down attendance this summer. Call it the perfect storm of price hikes, concerns about the economy, coupled with fear of insane crowds for SWGE and not having the major E ticket open. Disney may have expected more and planned for more but they are still making $$$$ hand over fist.

I conveniently don’t see articles about the insane down time of Hagrid and it being less than 10 minute waits plenty of days. Cause ya know, it’s easier and more fun to take pot shots at the big dog and it’s big dog franchise.

We all blame management/Chapek for their short sighted vision and ‘profit today at the expense of the long term’, YET everyone tries to paint this idea that something that isn’t gobbsmacked with people is a disaster after 3 weeks.

In 6-12 months when ROTR is humming along and they add some live entertainment to the land, you won’t hear anyone proclaiming “my bad I overreacted”

This is such an accurate write up...I’m just hoping all these articles don’t sway public opinion.

...in the seconds that I have just pointed out the bad reporting on YouTube. It appears that a lot of those...let’s say enthusiastic voices against Galaxy’s edge have seen their videos taken off the top search results and moved down the page...some do remain. Good, hopefully that article won’t be reported on again.

Except the land is now open and is no longer theoretical or left up to our imaginations. What they built is a dull, lifeless, abandoned movie set that has failed to resonate with the public and drive excited FOMO on either either coast.

If it was amazing, exciting, and blew people away anybody saying it wasn't would be laughed off the boards, YouTube, social media, watercoolers, etc. Go on a Hagrid's board and say the ride is dull and no fun. You'll be ignored because it's ridiculous.

I also enjoy reading everybody's dreams of a much better, future SWGE that exists only in their imagination as a curious counterpoint to a discussion of what they actually built.

So why exactly with the reaction being so tepid on both coasts and only one ride open are they not adding entertainment now? Why would they be waiting for ROTR to open to add entertainment while the lifeless land is experienced by millions of more people that then go out and share their disappointed experience to others? Explain that to me.

There are three major "attractions" they are selling - Batuu, MFSR, and ROTR. I am hoping that ROTR is amazing, but that will not magically correct the countless terrible creative decisions that plague the other two.

IMHO.

Completely disagree with the narrative of ‘dull and lifeless’. What other land at any of the Disney parks (stateside) has this much detail and cast member “in world”? Hint: NONE OF THEM.

Besides adding roaming characters and droids, which I think they felt would get in the way of the crowds initially, (and it saved them a few Chapek bucks to boot), I’d call a highly themed and detailed Ronto roasters, bustling marketplace, droid shop, Savi experience, fun ride with giant Millennium Falcon and AA’s in shops and highly themed and well received bar pretty darn LIVELY.

I enjoy Pandora, and all the parks, but I don’t see how any of those areas are bustling with energy and excitement yet SWGE isn’t? It’s simply a matter of perspective. Disney promised more and hasn’t delivered on that promise yet. That doesn’t equate to dull and lifeless, just “not as energized as YOU were hoping for”.

Does the color palette being all tan help? Maybe not. I would like some colorful droids and alien costumes roaming around to give it some more visual “punch” and variety in a perfect world.

Why have they not added it yet? Probably 2 reasons:

- they figured it wasn’t needed initially
- it saved a bunch of $$$

So maybe they don’t want to spend the $$$ as they can read the tea leaves and know people WON’T suddenly say “I no longer care about high ticket prices and looming economic downturn, there’s an R5 droid zipping around, let’s book a trip”.

Disney made their bed and will live with it until post ROTR where they can fully assess what they want to add and when they feel it’s needed.

I want MORE of course. But simply because I want MORE doesn’t mean it currently NEEDS more.

And all these claims of “disappointed people” is a fallacy. A legion of Twitter users and YouTubers is not the majority or accurate pulse. SW these days generates a very strong reaction, mainly from dudes who can’t equate woman in movies or positions of power and want what they experienced at 8 years old to be mimicked today.
