Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

Got to say it looks very impressive from the promo clips, especially the trackless vehicles moving through the corridors. I get the impression that Disney has decided to release quite a lot of footage before opening so they don't face smaller crowds than they anticipated as with MFSR. Can't remember much being released before that opened so maybe they're trying something a little different promo-wise?

As for when it opens, I'm expecting carnage on here. Some who decided 2-3 years ago that this would be a failure desperately searching for faults with it and telling those who enjoy it "Well you say you enjoy it, but you didn't really did you?" etc

Looks exactly as I expected. They are far from the riders, and look “meh” it was obviously going to be like that, if you didn’t get sucked in by the hype.

Excuse me? You were so convinced that they were not even going to be in the same room:rolleyes:

For the umpteenth time, those spinners, and the patent are VERY cool. But the spinning items would in no way shape or form be in the same room as humans. They would have to be behind glass, for safety. So, they could be used, but not like most people are salivating over.

Until one goes flying through the air and brains a 6 year old. It's not someone sticking something in it, it is WHEN, not if, they break.

Anything like that, running at high speed, 16 hours a day, will break. No current use of them is taxing the design like that. If their Hazop does NOT cover that scenario, it was apparently done by the same morons who didn't think the Skyliner could be stopped for 3 hours.

Besides, the camera and youtube don’t film/show in the same refresh rate as the human eye. A fast spinning blade will look very differently with the naked eye versus a camera.

Projection mapping...

I don’t think so, I think the bluish ceiling is part of the projected image. The perspective will squinch as you roll through the scene.

All speculation, but to me... it looks like scrim. I think it would make sense to have them projected onto scrim since they are "white" and the background is dark so they don't look transparent (and it would give it 3D depth). The troopers would absolutely still be squinched even without a background. You are still compensating for perspective distortion.

As for multiple viewpoints - this also would make the effect more forgiving.

If they were standard screens, I think the background would have been "designed out" a little more (like in the tv spot trailer). Maybe they tried it with standard screens originally but opted to go this route.

Again... all fun speculation! We will see.

It seems like Disney has put out a TON of content on this ride compared to other recent rides like Flight of Passage or similar, no?

This ride lends itself well to B-Roll, lots of great effects and visuals to shoot actors riding through the attraction. FoP had nothing to shoot for B-Roll - just people on a banshee on front of a screen, doesn't sell the ride well.

It does bode well that Disney shot the people on the actual attraction, as opposed to Tower of Terror or Coaster where the commercials were obviously shot on a soundstage and bore little resemblance to the actual experience.

You guys, I'm torn! 😬

I haven't clicked on any videos posted here, because I want to be surprised in just a few days.

On the other hand, I want to "get" ROTR and not be confused like I was at MFSR last August. 😄

There is nothing to "get" with Rise. You sit down and it goes.

You are correct.
