Or possibly like this... another guess:
Has it been confirmed to be Rey or Vi as the hologram?
Here’s hoping!Britain - Yeah, my first idea was a bit of a stretch. I was trying to fit it to the hologram patent they released. Although, you could still do the same thing with a retroreflector behind the half mirror.
Here's to hoping they made the image 3D so it doesn't sit clearly behind a plane (like a mirror monitor display).

There was footage back at D23 that showed a hologram of Vi, though it was not being projected from BB8.

Perhaps the holding cell before the transition to the ride vehicles?

I thought it was confirmed that that projection of Vi was for the commercial only, in the real attraction it will be Rey. (Don’t want to pay Daisy Ridley more money than you have to.)
All speculation, but to me... it looks like scrim. I think it would make sense to have them projected onto scrim since they are "white" and the background is dark so they don't look transparent (and it would give it 3D depth). The troopers would absolutely still be squinched even without a background. You are still compensating for perspective distortion.
As for multiple viewpoints - this also would make the effect more forgiving.
If they were standard screens, I think the background would have been "designed out" a little more (like in the tv spot trailer). Maybe they tried it with standard screens originally but opted to go this route.
Again... all fun speculation! We will see.

Anything else they said in terms of how the ride rates with other E tickets?"Oh Crap!" moment - talked to a contact who has been riding RotR in SWGECA and they said the drop is an "oh crap!" moment.
Another on-ride video

This while short, has SLIGHTLY different footage with some very nice views. The FO Troopers heads move!
It seems like Disney has put out a TON of content on this ride compared to other recent rides like Flight of Passage or similar, no?
Flight of Passage opened with the rest of the land, so the marketing was more focused on the land as a whole. RotR is opening later and has the job of revitalizing a failed opening, which definitely calls for a lot of content on the ride. So the situations are different.
