Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opening reports and using Boarding Groups at Disneyland

Quick question - I know there are security tables on the Downtown Disney side of the esplanade. I'm assuming those tables are also open in the morning. Has anyone entered from that side and if so, how were the lines? I won't be at Disneyland for a few months, but wondering if coming in from that side might be less crowded to get thru security.
I would opt for the North gates, and if long lines, walk to the West gates.
I've entered through the DTD security tables quite a few times, both the North and West that Darkbeer described. A lot depends on the day and how lucky/unlucky you are, but the earlier you get there the better the lines will be as a general rule.

My family's SOP when arriving via Mickey & Friends is...
-Do a quick visual check of the tram security lines. If they look short and are moving quickly, ride the tram.
-If the tram lines appear backed up at all, walk to DTD. You'll encounter the North gates first, but it's a short trip around to check out the West ones. In my experience there's usually not a huge difference between the two.

@marni1971 had a great post recently about how many riders ROTR can handle on an operational basis. It'll be nice when it's out of test and adjust phase.

...which could be a while. The past two weeks have been the worse yet.

Scanning the DHS thread on occasion, that definitely seems to be the case out there. 🥴

Things aren't that hot here at Disneyland either. Luckily my Wednesday visit was one of the smoothest days they've ever had, but then Thursday turned crummy for them. Until someone proves to me otherwise, I'm of the strong opinion that there are 100 people in each Boarding Group at Disneyland, and lately they've been only calling 7,000 to 9,000 people per day to ride.

Today is worse. The ride opened an hour after the park opened, and it's currently going through it's third (3!) long breakdown of the day. Seven hours after Disneyland opened and the are still stuck on Boarding Group 53.

Update: I opened the app around 9:40pm. Before the boarding group numbers disappeared indicating that they were done, it appears the final group called was 131.

This is a really good point. They seem to hold the final Boarding Groups of the day for one hour, and then the App goes dark for this ride. I'm still of the opinion the queue holds about one hour of queue when they begin Last Call around 8:30pm, and the final riders are disembarking around 9:45pm as the fireworks end, maybe 10pm at the latest.

If anyone here had a final Boarding Group that had them disembarking the ride after 10pm, barring any extended breakdowns after Last Call like @mickEblu had to put up with a few days ago, please chime in and let us know! Otherwise, it's becoming more and more apparent than there's about an hours worth of queue in there when Last Call goes out each night around 8:30pm.

Tonight was no different. The daytime was rough for them; another delayed opening of one hour this morning after Disneyland opened at 8am, a few daytime breakdowns of an hour or more, but then a good evening where they recovered and chugged along before calling it a night at 8:20pm with Boarding Group 131. The App shut down and all tracking stopped one hour later at 9:20pm at Boarding Group 131, even though Disneyland was open for another 3 and a half hours.

Disneyland was open 8am to Midnight today....

So that gets you a not completely disastrous day for this ride...

Friday 2/7: First BG Called at 8:55am, Last BG #131 Called at 8:20pm, 7 Hours Closed, 9 Hours Open

Oh how I wish I had known last call was at 8:30 pm and not 8pm. It would have saved me at least three hours of anxiety from 5 to 8pm where I realized it was going to be an extremely close call. Especially from 7-8pm where it became clear that my group would definitely be called (barring any breakdowns) so long as they kept calling just a little past 8pm. It made for an interesting family dinner with random shouts of “93” or “101” across the table. We ended up being called at about 8:05 pm. I kept holding on to hope that they would call groups a little later than usual to make up for the extremely late start and multiple breakdowns.

3pm: Theyre really going through the groups today despite a breakdown earlier. They’re already at the backup boarding groups with the latest called being group 86

Mines just got called at 66. They’re doing a great job today as I seen the ride opened around 8:40.

It looks like 66 was called in between two different 30 minute breakdowns, so hopefully you weren't stuck in the caverns for too long. But I hope you enjoyed it!
