Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opening reports and using Boarding Groups at Disneyland

Why would a Disney refund an entire ticket because someone couldn’t get on a specific ride?

If a person goes to Guest Relations early in the day and tells them that they weren't able to get a boarding group and that Rise of the Resistance was the one ride they came to ride, I'm sure they will give you another ticket to come on another day, void your current ticket and escort you out of the park.

Say I've been to Disneyland before. Which I have, a lot. If I showed up at 7:30am and I fail to get a boarding group or get one past 130+, I'd honestly fight for a refund and then leave.

I think those theme breaking signs around the park, esplanade too?, say something to that effect as well. We’re gambling to get on a theme park ride

This somehow reminds me of the last time I visited the Grand Canyon and at the entrance booth they had a sign up saying " it's cloudy today. We're not refunding you if the clouds don't let you see the Canyon".

You could fight, but Disney’s not the kind to do something like that. They’ll offer a free snack or give you free clothing in extreme cases, but a whole refund because there was a specific ride you wanted to experience but couldn’t? I don’t see it happening.

Page 47 of this thread does a great job highlighting the fine line Disney is trying to walk between charging ultra-premium prices, while only offering mostly premium experiences.

They might give a refund. They have in the past refunded people when they had legitimate complaints about attraction availability (like when Indy or Rocket Rods opened). If a guest shows up at City Hall, within an hour of opening, and didn't experience any attractions, they would be more inclined to issue a refund and escort them from the park. That's not really the kind of thing you can get away with daily though.

As a former DL GR CM (circa 2009) I can say we certainly would have instances were we would void an individuals ticket and reissue it for another day. We would take their tickets, escort them out the park gates and then hand them their new unused tickets. A full refund was less likely. There was no set policy and was up to our discretion but generally we would only do it within the first hour (maybe two) of a guest entering the park.

And how long before every tom dick and harry would try to do the same thing and posting on facebook "hey, goto DL and just say you couldn't get a BG and you get your money back and get in DL for free!!"

Was Rocket Rods more reliable than Rise of the Resistance?

Kind of a toss up. From what I remember, Rocket Rods would go down far more frequently, but the overall downtime was shorter. They did have a threshold for the number of available vehicles, and when they were under that, they just wouldn't open for the day. So far... I don't think either version of Rise has had a day off since they opened.

Some folks mentioned that the line at Guest Relations has been long in the morning after opening so many people already figured it out? But if all you really want to do is ride the ride... Is that really a bad thing?

No - but that's never been the guarantee of the park either. So this ride or BG system doesn't change anything...

On the issue of refunds, to what degree is Disney advertising the new attraction, while downplaying the limited availability?

They did this when Galaxy's Edge opened last year. At the end of May, I was seeing commercials that basically said come on down, it's open. There was small print about capacity, but they failed to mention that the land was already 100% booked up via a reservation system for the first month. I imagine some ed off people showed up only to be surprised to find themselves locked out of the land.

For someone not in the know, they might reasonably expect to be able to arrive at 11:00 and experience this attraction, albeit with a long wait. That was always the norm until now. I don't see it as being particularly unreasonable to do refunds, as long as it includes the person leaving the park.

The reservation system disappeared very quickly last year and no one still showed up.
