Star Wars Park?

But the reality is projects during Iger's tenure have been dragged out forever (avatar) so it might be 7-10 years before we see the finished lands and attractions open to the public.

Actually probably NEVER because the most harmful thing Iger has done is done huge stock buybacks and shown Wall St that revenue increases can be squeezed out of the parks without meaningful investment, The next management team is going to have a huge task in educating Wall St that the supposed gains in P&R were actually the result of not investing in that B/U and now things that 10 years ago would have cost a dollar will now cost 10 to fix.

I really do not envy the next management team at TWDC

If Disney doesn't FASTTRACK the StarWars theme park additions (whatever they may be) they are going to miss out BIG TIME. They are building up some massssive anticipation for the Movie and for the franchise that if they play their cards right and do the Land Justice at the Parks and get the timing right. I mean MK may very well be a ghost town for a while when this thing opens.

Lots of conjecture on the Force Awakens in here and the linked articles about the plot... very, very little of it is hitting the mark.

Ah, the joys of being a fan in the age of Star Wars. Reminds me of the period time between the original trilogies movies where everyone was all over the place with the plot. The prequels didn't have the luxury of that. We knew kinda, sorta where it had to start and knew where it had to end. The sequels get away from that and it's an open book more or less; however, there are enough pieces to see where those threads will take you.

Ok, having dabbled on a production team in the live entertainment/seasonal haunted attraction world for a time several years ago, some of the "wonder" of "how do they do that?" has faded away when I see effects at WDW - and movies nowadays, it's tons of CGI.

Now... Click below and at the 2:40 mark... MY. JAW. DROPPED.

How in the h*ll did they do that with that droid on stage? Magnets? No clue...part of me doesn't want to know.

Which, tying it back to WDW, would be something that they should bring to the parks. They already have that droid-ball as a working figure -- having something like that in DHS/DL at a Star Wars land for "streetmosphere" would be incredible. Yes, you probably can't have it among a crowd, unless there's a handler (which might be an option) or put it down a closed alleyway where people can see by not touch it.

I wouldn't rule out the Star Wars park just yet. I've actually suspecting this, but kept quiet to avoid the usual ridicule here. If you think about it, a Star Wars park across the street from DHS on land reserved for DHS is easier to build than expanding DHS.

Here's the real clincher. How many acres is that site across from DHS on World Drive? It's 300-something, I believe. How many acres for new development have they just filed for? 300-something, I believe.

Just my opinion a 1 IP theme park will be a massive failure....diversity is key

but you can get the same number of star wars fans building a land within DHS as you can an entire theme park
just doesn't make fiscal sense
DHS will be expanded any way. Once that is done, a point of diminishing returns is reached because it will cost more to find new space there to expand the park further. It is a lot easier and cheaper just to build a new park.

They filed for 350 acres of new wetland impacts over the next 20 years. The area across from DHS is not wetlands and is already considered suitable for construction, so there really is no connection.

if you build a star wars theme park
and I build a star wars, marvel, Pixar, avatar theme park im going to out draw you by a lot
that's my point when talking diversity

No, this will now allow them to build there without impacting the total number of acres allowed for development in the long term. There is a connection and its subtle.

I know that would never happen, but how fun would that be? Two parks across the road from each other with some sort of Hogwarts Express type attraction/transportation between them. Each with a large Star Ward land. Heh.

There is an are across World Drive from DHS is designated suitable for construction and is even called out in the RCID master plan as one of the larger contiguous plots of suitable land that could be used for expansion. They are free to build on this whenever they want. They have also asked for an additional 350 acres of wetland impacts this is on top of what they have left of the original 600 acres of impacts that they were original given.

I thought the suitable land on the other side of World Drive is kinda small though. Enough for maybe a "land" but no where near the size of a full park. Can anyone comment on the acreage we'd be talking about?
