Star Wars Park?

Dang, does Harrison Ford look old....:0 While Chewie doesn't have a gray hair on his head, or pelt, or whatever. Now see, this is what I don't get about reviving stuff...to me it's depressing to see how much actors have aged or changed, or to see how dated the thing that was cool once now seems.

A Star Wars park? Yeah, right. I think Iger's being cautious because, while the new SW film will be huge due to nostalgia alone, that doesn't mean "revived franchise with hit after hit to come". He won't even fund a decent attraction for Frozen, for crying out loud. It's all wait-and-see right now, and for once I agree with the penny-pinching cement-head (never thought I'd say that :p ).

I thought the suitable land on the other side of World Drive is kinda small though. Enough for maybe a "land" but no where near the size of a full park. Can anyone comment on the acreage we'd be talking about?

Yes, it is small, but is still one of the larger chunks of suitable land. It's a very irregular shape, but based on some quick Google Earth measurements it appears to be about 60-70 acres. The whole undeveloped land between World, Buena Vista Dr, and Osceola is around 125 acres so even if they decided to take those wetlands, the number don't line up directly with what they have requested in new wetland impacts. You just can't draw a line from the wetland impact request to a new park next to DHS.

I know that would never happen, but how fun would that be? Two parks across the road from each other with some sort of Hogwarts Express type attraction/transportation between them. Each with a large Star Ward land. Heh.
Don't get me started. Those here who know me know that is what I've been saying all along could/should/and maybe would happen.

DHS itself is around ~135 acres, right? I guess that's enough space to build something if they wished, but it just seems like it would be small. And would make that are even more congested.

I wager new park on land previously designated as possible land for a DHS expansion. It may even be billed as a new land for DHS but on land not joining the park.

I am not trying to say this won't happen, just trying to manage everyone's expectations. A lot of people got excited when I posted about this land use permit last year, and now, 9 months later, Disney still hasn't done what they need to do to get it approved.
Just for the record, I wasn't being negative because of what you said. I would just be surprised if it happened.

It should be on the scale of Epcot. Instead of the geosphere, a Death Star. There should be a Bespin. Imagine taking elevators to a mini-park over 1000 feet up! There should be an "International Showcase" of the planets there, Tattooine, Alderan, Cato Neimoidia, etc

Does anyone remember that ride application that was placed a few years ago that was thought to be a coaster for Avatarland and mostly thought to be a Banshee based ride? it was fully enclosed and had LED screens as "windows". I remember the track being very basic with a small hill or two. What if this is not a coaster, but a transport system that would get passengers across World Drive while keeping the theming of Star Wars. Maybe they add a transport station near Star Tours.

It would be cool if they expanded the Star Wars themed area behind Star Tours abit, but did it in a way where it kind of mixes the behind the scenes aspects along with the actual movie world aspects so it sticks with the theme of Hollywood Studios.

I guarantee there will not be a standalone Star Wars park at WDW.

Iger has already said that Star Wars will be a major focus of the refurbishing of Hollywood Studios.

They're struggling to maintain four gates -- they do not need a fifth.
I love Star Wars as much as the next person, but I hope Hollywood Studios doesn't become too overly saturated in it.

I don't see this becoming a problem. With Pixar confirmed tiny expansion and rumored expansions, rumored SW expansions, and the already existing Hollywood portions of the park, I have a feeling it will balance out nicely. Who knows? We could even be in for more than just Pixar and SW.

Awesome! I wasn't aware that the Pixar thing had been confirmed. Just to clarify we are talking about some sort of Pixar themed land or area right?
