Star Wars Launch Bay coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios later this year

Geez, I'm getting quite a bit of heat for this!

Harry Potter at Universal makes so much sense to me, the books and movies fit perfectly into IOA and USF but I digress. I guess the issue I have is Disney buying up IPs like Star Wars and using them to compete with Universal, and do the exact same thing as them. Having an entire Star Wars Land as well as Avatar Land inside a Disney Park just doesn't make sense to me even if it is the most profitable product out there. Disney had nothing to do with that..Its purely driven by unecessary competition.

It makes as much sense as Elsa in WS, Avatar in AK, Pixar Short Films in Future World, and Ice Men singing 80s songs on Sunset Boulevard, etc. I suppose I'm just old fashioned when it comes to the Disney Parks. Judging from everything I've read about Walt Disney, he would not be happy about this.

As a side note: I've seen countless arguments that Disney is all about lands and that they've used other IPs for decades. Adventureland, Tomorrowland, as well as Tom Sawyer Island.

First of all, Disney has created most of their animated films based on classic literature. Peter Pan, Snow White, Alice, Sleeping Beauty, as well as Tom Sawyer. Disney actually produced a Tom Sawyer film in 1973.

The lands that Disney created in the parks are timeless and magical, not based upon trending products someone else created. They wouldn't have bought the rights to 007 and made a James Bond Land at Disneyland or Disney World just because people like it. It doesn't fit with the brand.

I said that because it is taking over the majority of the park. It's the largest renovation in park history. That's without mentioning the Launch Bay, which took over the whole animation building... The desperation I'm speaking of is the necessity of a whole "land", everything needs a land now. Cars Land, Avatar Land, Star Wars Land, Toy Story Land.. All in an attempt to recreate the Harry Potter cash train.

Universal has really stepped up their game with quality attractions, new hotels and more property in the works. If the Mine Train is the E-Ticket my expectations are low for this. I hope Star Wars is worth it, but I'm afraid the Millennium Falcon attraction will be a clone of Star Tours. Oh we'll have more stores, but there's pretty much a Star Wars version of everything ever made. I hate to be Mr. Negativity here, I want it to work! As they say, don't put all your eggs in one basket.

The "worst" case scenario we have heard for Star Wars Land looks like this. That is not even a 3rd of the park let alone the majority. The Star Wars launch bay will likely be replaced with something non-Star Wars when the new land opens. The single IP land thing is something new, so the jury is still out as to whether it's actually a good idea. Universal did it with Potter and Disney did it with Cars Land, and personally I feel that these two lands are some of the best themed experiences I have had in any park, so I call both an overwhelming success. So I see no reason not to continue the trend especially since Star Wars is a perfect fit for this sort of land.

This is just healthy debate, if you don't want people to provide opposing views then don't post your opinions on the internet. I understand the opposition to non-Disney IP's, but personally this never bothered me. Disney's specialty has always been themed entertainment so it doesn't make a difference to me whether they apply it to their own IP's or others. Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye is over 20 years old and still holds up as one the best theme park rides I have ever been on. It is a great example of Disney applying their expertise to an outside IP.

I think the single land ideas are GREAT if done well, like Universal did with Harry Potter land.

The whole idea of themed lands is to transport you to another world, is it not? So why not theme it to specific IP's, particularly culturally significant IP's, that many millions of people have dreamed about seeing in real life. Disney or theme parks bringing that to life is what they are about.

Does Disney have an IP not he scale of Star Wars they can throw into their parks to attack Age 6-100 like star wars? Pixar is great but they bought it so same issue... Don't think disney has one theme world that has done what this has done in its time.

No, they used to. Now days they buy out what is popular and use it to their advantage..:p

I am probably off my rocker but I hope they have room to expand star wars land even more -- to also include, down the line, maybe smaller sections of lands branching off from the current one, each themed specifically for the Hans Solo series (rogue one) and Kamino - The Fett homeworld (boba, Jengo, and any other Fetts they introduce). Supposedly there will be a Fett origin series.

What is a star wars land without being able to see multiple worlds/planets that these characters can visit so easy -- so should we!

Really? What did they use to do that was ever on the level of Potter or Star Wars? These two properties are once in a generation IP both are remarkably unique and encompass levels of fandom like nothing ever produced. I cannot think of anything else that has ever reached the height of these two.

this movie is going to do insane numbers regardless, but it is going to break - SMASH - records if it is actually good -- and it looks like it is

I think this will only make Disney want to put more and more effort into the land
