I'm sorry, you've come to the wrong boardsSome people here really need to lighten up.
But there will be some great merchandise...Let's face it WDW will be lucky to get an X-wing spinner
Bith there will be some great merchandise...
When people say the park "used to be charming" I have to ask, besides the lackluster backlot area, what has changed? Hollywood (sans the Big Hat, which improves aesthetics immensely) and Echo are still there, as nice as ever. Sunset is nice as ever. Animation Courtyard is now becoming a hot mess with dated shows and the Backlot is an even bigger deadzone hot mess, but I even find the Streets of America to be nice, for facades. So I'm not sure what's changed besides a few offerings back in 1989 and the closure of the Backlot tour. Yeah, the production aspect made the park feel 'complete' and cohesive but it's still a charming park. To each their own. (And of course I agree that changes need to be made. Toy Story Land and Star Wars Land will go a very long way). Does having those two lands make it more charming? More cohesive? Or just add to the mess? It's never going to be about production again.
Well, it hasn't which is part of the problem. There are many things that could've been done. Indiana Jones was long overdue for the chopping block, but perhaps a Pirates of the Caribbean stunt show would've been possible. They could've have updated the animation aspect of the park with attractions based around the current technology used to create the films. Most of the "charm" I'm referring to came from the working studio theme of the park. When people say the park "used to be charming" I have to ask, besides the lackluster backlot area, what has changed?
I'm a Star Wars fan, and I think it's overkill. Not only that, I think it's kind of lazy..not to put to find a point on it.
Hollywood Studios/MGM Studios/Hollywood Adventure used to be my favorite park as a kid. It had a charm to it back when the parks had a cohesive theme, and when they didn't slap things in just to bring in cash (but that's a whole other topic). You could see the Hollywood citizens out on Sunset Boulevard, but now you see the Ice Men of the North singing 80s songs on a 1930s themed area. Star Tours and Tatooine Traders is enough for me, but it's taking over the majority of the park in desperation to recapture the success of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. At any rate, this could have been converted to something creative and interesting.
This park has become the tackiest of them all. Next year will be a mess with all the closings, It will stay that way until SWL opens (probably unfinished when that "grand opening" happens as well).
If well executed this will be hugely popular.
I said that because it is taking over the majority of the park. It's the largest renovation in park history. That's without mentioning the Launch Bay, which took over the whole animation building... The desperation I'm speaking of is the necessity of a whole "land", everything needs a land now. Cars Land, Avatar Land, Star Wars Land, Toy Story Land.. All in an attempt to recreate the Harry Potter cash train. Why do you say SWL is taking over "The majority of the park"? Current rumors are that it will be mostly built in what is currently the existing parking lot. I also wouldn't call it "desperation". Star Wars is one of the biggest franchises in film history and can definitely support a Wizarding World scale themed land. If well executed this will be hugely popular.
So it's desperate for Disney to take possibly the biggest movie franchise in history and give it a land yet it's not desperate to take Harry Potter and give it two lands in two parks??? Your contradicting yourself thereI said that because it is taking over the majority of the park. It's the largest renovation in park history. Universal has really stepped up their game with quality attractions, new hotels and more property in the works. If the Mine Train is the E-Ticket my expectations are low for this. I hope Star Wars is worth it, but I'm afraid the Millennium Falcon attraction will be a clone of Star Tours. Oh we'll have more stores, but there's pretty much a Star Wars version of everything ever made. I hate to be Mr. Negativity here, I want it to work! As they say, don't put all your eggs in one basket.
