Star Wars Launch Bay coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios later this year

What do you think concept art is? They're not architectural drawings. They're not a statement of work. They're not an offer of goods or services. They illustrate a concept, as in "here's the general idea of what we're going for." They're propaganda. Marketing material.
Okay. I think the finished product is not worthy of being in a Disney Theme Park for the next five years. See also: Story Book Circus. See also: Dino-Rama.

That's very reasonable and I'm not going to argue with you. I haven't seen this in person yet so I haven't made a judgment. I happen to agree with you on Dino-Rama and disagree on Story Book Circus. My objection wasn't to say "you must think this is awesome, or else." My objection was to a previous poster who argued that this attraction somehow makes Bob Iger a liar. That's a stupid argument.

you might not like dino-ramas theme... but to say that it is not themed to the level of EE is just not true. how much asphalt have you seen INside AK? just where it is fake lined as a parking lot so that these rides can sit upon it. when you look at it, it screams roadside temporary attraction... just as intended. the fake and over the top graphics for PW mark it as a true roadside experience. (it does not look like disney, just as Harambe does not look like disney, no EE look like disney. they look like what the imagineers wanted it to be.)

Concept art is a sales pitch. Nobody's disputing that.

"Star Wars Launch Bay – Opening later this year, this interactive experience will take guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida and Disneyland park in California into the upcoming film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, as well as the first six films in the Star Wars saga."

To be honest, it's getting increasingly difficult to tell who is trolling who in here.

What you have here is the hardcore fan consensus that the 'Launch Bay' is not suitable as a permanent attraction in a Disney park which the more cynical of us assumed it would be and that's driving the negativity. If the 'Launch Bay' were a '3-6' month thing yeah it would get trashed but not to the extremes seen here.

As to the exhibit's Disney has the entire contents of the 'Skywalker Ranch' filled with props from EP I to EP VI, I can see them not wanting to use props from the upcoming movies but to not use ones from movies in the past which that fans would LOVE to see WHISKEY-TANGO-FOXTROT is up with that other than being unwilling to make the transfer payment to Lucasfilm

Careful what you wish for, or they may just place @PhotoDave219 's favourite character in there:

So the Launch Bay has been open for a week. Any more reports on how things are going? Wait times for the characters? Waits to get into the attraction? Underperforming, overperforming? Anything like that? I know a week after DL's opened it was pretty much a walk in with no wait of any kind. Just wondering how our's is doing.

Well if this thread is to be believed then it's become an abyss of despair where families enter together and come out as hollow shells of humans emaciated by the cruel ravages of disappointment spurned by the maw between concept art and reality.

Or it's going pretty okay and folks are spending a bit of time in there before they go about their day.

Can't really tell to be honest.

That was a finely crafted reply! - thread win!

If this were a pop-up thing to help promote the movie and future stuff... that would be one thing.

But this is an attraction setup in place of a permanent attraction that itself will be a foundation for entertainment, marketing, and low level attractions for years to come. It's not a seasonal ad... it's not a studio promo.. its not a weekend special.. This is an attraction in Disney's fixed theme parks.

I wish people would stop accepting simply moving college kids in costumes INDOORS as an excuse for attractions. Building higher capacity M&Gs is not what I goto Disney World for.

So. Finally saw the Launch Bay today. It was nice enough. The decorating of the Cantina was the best theming in there. The external queue is nice with the artwork and movie posters. Freshly painted everywhere. The Launch Bay Theater movie was treated like the pre-show. It was OK. Clips and people who work on the film patting themselves on the back and reminding us Star Wars is amazing, wonderful, etc. (I love Star Wars but man it was laid on thick).

The exhibits are nice. The lighting is darker than you think. It was fine. The Cantina was the best decorated and what I would have liked to have seen throughout but they actually did a nice job. I think they could have gone more immersive like the Cantina tried to do but the entire thing works. It's nice to see a cohesive theme and it flowed well.

There was about a 30 minute wait to get in and it definitely felt that long. I was there to see that and the Lights so I waited. LOL. Didn't do the meet and greets but Darth had 20 and Chewbacca had 30. Lots of castmembers throughout.

I will try to throw up some pictures I took on my phone.

This was never meant to be the next great thing. I think your expectations were way to high. Just wait until this comes...
