Most people that are not directly involved with a particular project and/or familiar with construction are. What looks like complete chaos and months worth of work to layman often looks quite different to someone that does this stuff day in and day out.
That is not a hard and fast rule either. I see way more people that think it will be completed yesterday and Disney is only spreading out the costs. Those two observations show a complete lack of any construction knowledge and would also make lousy accountants. They are currently building the part that goes the fastest and that is the outer shell (skeleton, as it were) the time is in the detail and lord knows we will be totally without mercy if the detail is sacrificed. So it can go either way. Since DL's is a few months ahead, they may be able to help DHS avoid errors that cost a lot of time. 2019 seems about right though. One thing that I think is unproven at this point is the ride system. From what I can tell it is brand new and even though it might come out alright... there are usually a few bugs to work out after it is installed.

The ride system is tried and tested. There’s nothing first of its kind.

It is, but Transformers figured out the multi level show aspect and Tower the AGV on a moving platform part.
True, although I feel like we are looking at a different situation than Transformers, as this one is "hey were going up!" Where as Transformers is "We are zooming down this street!". Admittedly, it is slightly more simplistic and I doubt that that is what would cause break downs on the ride.

I think we both know one will be very Transformers and the other very impressive show-wise.

Where has it been tried and tested? I thought you said this was a revolutionary design back a while ago. Still when was the last time that Disney ever built a ride that didn't have to have bugs worked out of it? Even one that had been working for years (i.e. Frozen) I would be interested in knowing if there currently is an exact ride operating someplace in the world. It would take a lot of guessing out of it.

You’ve turned really grouchy.

There’s nothing that’s not been done before. Just not necessarily all in the same ride.

Grouchy? Because you make a one sentence statement with no explanation or correction and I ask where and when... And Martin there are literally millions of things that have never been done before. There is always a first time for everything. How many threads have been established over the years about how original Disney was, innovator and all that crap. It's also the "not necessarily the same ride" part that I am asking about. I didn't even say that there would be a problem, but, to just dismiss it like it can never happen is hard for me to accept. I have to wonder which one of us is grouchy!

I did state in my post before your question two existing rides that can be compared to.

I don’t think I dismissed a potential problem though. On the contrary I expect there will be quite a few.

I'll chime in and back up Martin and MF (and Spirit) in that nobody has ever implied that Alcatraz is blazing a new trail with anything it's doing other than the scale and quantity that is contained within it. I believe I used the term "kitchen sink" when referring to this from the very first discussions, as in they are throwing everything at it. It is an amalgamation of everything learned in the industry all thrown into one package on a scale that Parks hasn't tried in quite a long time (at least stateside). This is the crown jewel of a land where we can see what Imagineering can do when they gloves of budget come off and they swing for the fences.

Innovation isn't always a cornerstone of greatness. Lots of great ideas go to waste when applied to a small scale.

For this attraction, there isn't really any need to bring new tools to the table. The artists involved had access to every tool in the shed and they chose what was needed to create their art. A new RV tech wasn't required as the LPS RV is perfectly suited to travel around a Star Destroyer.

For fun, JediMasterMatt, throw out a list of some of the effects / tech included along with the kitchen sink. Please? No story context, of course.

Spirit is a bad Nostradamus on timelines, when he is guessing, which he was. There is no serious indication that WDW's land is majorly sliding and I have seen nothing to suggest DL's can't be operational in the first half of 2019, if not the first quarter.

Clearly MF is keeping pace, so I'll propose a few other areas to watch for in the coming months:

1. By the second week of March 90% of the front side of Battle Escape should have its rock work steel up.
2. The land's large building supporting the semi-covered market should have about 75% of its steel and the archway over the entrance to the market street.

Finally, SW:GE in DHS would have to look worse than this for me to be seriously concerned it was becoming difficult to open it in 2019.

Based on the Nov 27 photo update on wdwmagic there was a really neat aerial shot, so I tried to picture what Galaxy's Edge would look like from that view. The prediction is based on the D23 model and some of the slight variations from the DL version.

Needed a bit of guess work due to the angle, but any insiders feel free to comment if there are any major errors and I'll fix it. This is for a personal project I've been working on but just thought I'd share!:)
