Honestly the outrage that at most 1/2 of RoA is going away for an incredible, new themed environment and the addition of two new attractions is a little much to me.

I sure love DL and RoA is nice, but really? Part of a man made river is going away and people are losing it. The only argument I see any sort of reason to this is that SWL never "belonged" in DL in the first place.
There is no need to remove the Rivers of America, a triumph of themed entertainment. It is a spectacular area being sacrificed for a "meh" area with a cool dark ride and/or backstage facilities that can be relocated.

I understand your argument and I agree I'd much rather see backstage areas demolished. But I stand by my opinion, RoA is a man made river that just about any construction company can pull off. It's not going anywhere, just being shortened it seems. Now what a portion of RoA is being replaced with is something not anyone can easily pull off.

Utter nonsense. The Rivers of America is far more than just the hole in the ground. By that same reasoning then yes, anyone can do some buildings and two rides.

This is all very interesting! If echo lake is staying, it would make sense if it was themed to old Hollywood giving you the main drag back to GMR and then sunset blvd down to tower of terror and around echo lake themed to the Hollywood that never was as well. Would they build Star Wars on part of the existing parking area since they are building garages? Maybe I have this whole thing confused.

I'd love to see the Hollywood theme stay with like a giant door/marker that showed you were stepping into a movie: star wars, muppets?, Toy Story, etc. Or like a giant director's chair and film reel piece of art. A statue of the director as well. It would visually show guests they were stepping into the film world. Sorry, late night ramblings...
Brilliant idea!

I can't speak for other native Disneylanders, and perhaps this won't resonate with those who aren't, but I'm definitely feeling conflicted. Totally stoked about Star Wars Land, that it's a dedicated space, and not just a half-baked overlay of Tomorrowland. That said, Rivers of America is *Walt's* Rivers of America. It was a piece of nostalgia that he loved, an ode to his "fishing hole" in Marceline, the idea of kids running around exploring caves, and bustling river traffic. Although it will (better!) come back, it's like a part of Walt being silenced for a year. It's just going to be... weird. Honestly, I expect any reshaping to be slight, probably along the same lines of what would've been done had Discovery Bay been built. And I do have faith that all river traffic will be restored, and Tom Sawyer's Island will open again but, like I said, just... it'll be like an emptiness at Disneyland. I'm secretly hoping Fantasmic! will come back refreshed, as it was originally supposed to have been "every few years".... though, no offense, not Florida's show, please! :)

Same feelings about Disneyland Railroad. In many ways, it's Disneyland's soul. It's Walt's love of trains made real, evidence of his conviction that people WOULD climb up the steps of the Main Street station to ride it, the berm that would become a symbol, and the sounds of "Alllll aboarrrrd!" as you pass under it. All of that is *Walt*, but another piece of him we'll miss for a year.

Again, I realize this probably sounds overly sentimental to some, and I *love* all the other Disney parks I've been to (can't WAIT for Food and Wine this year!), but as Walt said, "there will never be another Disneyland"....

Really hoping these "Back half of the river is going" rumors are bunk and that this is just a "Can't peek at the Christmas Presents" thing.

Otherwise this deal's getting worse all the time.

Phases 7 and 3 1/3 are Pixar stuff, but phase 7 is going to be accelerated so it starts after phase 1 but before phase 3 but will finished sometime after phase 2 starts but before phase 9 ends. The board is still debating about the content of phase 5 but I hear if one of the 7 ideas for that phase gets approved it may become phase 1 and phase 1 will become phase 6 3/8, but despite the number may start before phase 3.

Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out.

Probably to soften the blow DPB made an announcement about Season of the force additions at disneyland starting November 16th, 2015.

Launch Bay, Star Tours with new scene, In Deem, her a new version of JTA, Hyperspace Mountain, Favorite classic scenes of the existing films at the Tomorrowland theater, special themed food and entertainment. The article stays stay tuned about Season of the Force coming to DHS.
So the holiday season and Season of the force are basically going to overlap then?

APs are going to revolt in DL with those proposed closures. They have a crap ton more power in Cali than they do in FL. Will that be enough for Disney to reverse on this, or is it a done deal? The media in LA will destroy them.
Well, they revolted over losing Toontown and got this. They better keep their mouths shut or the next move will be to place it on top of Sleeping Beauty Castle!

I know this was sarcastic, but overall I think there were very few people lamenting the potential loss of ToonTown. Altering original attractions is a sure fire way of drawing the ire of the DL faithful.

It seems to me that on both coasts this is playing out strangely. On the west coast they are trying to integrate a sci fi land into a frontier environment and if the concept art shown so far ends up being close to the final result, the east coast is getting a land clearly designed for the west coast.

When I was looking at the maps and imagining the new setup for DL, I think one interesting point is that the new pathway for the railroad (cutting from Critter Country over part of the current RoA/TSI to just north of BTMRR) will provide a great barrier between the current lands and Star Wars land. All of Star Wars will be outside the RR berm, so you'll probably have an effect where you walk underneath the tracks from Frontierland or Critter Country and then *boom* enter Star Wars land for a maximal visual effect of the transition.

I do think this would mean that the buildings for DL's Star Wars will likely be smaller than those at DHS due to sightlines.

Does star wars actually fit in Disneyland at all, theme wise?

Yes, it would have fit between Tomorrowland and Fantasyland if they had taken over the Autopia and the Submarine Voyage.

I think the Star Wars films have more in common with Westerns and Fairy Tales than actual Asimov-ian or Bradbary-ian Science Fiction, or EPCOT-ish Science Fact for that matter. Star Wars Land fits perfectly between Frontierland and Fantasyland.

It's the execution that worries me. I wasn't prepared for RoA to be reduced.

I'm hoping that this project at least adds enhancements to the experience of RoA, not just bites a chunk off. Will Star Wars Land actually own some of the river or will there be a new berm of green buffer between them? Or perhaps the backsides of the SWL showbuildings will become newly sculpted settings for the RoA's Indians? Imagine Mesa Verde. What if the new north half of the RoA blended in with Big Thunder more? Will the burning cabin burn again?

Star Wars is more of a DCA land, but it's been 21 years since an E-ticket opened in DL Park (really the park hasn't seen much of any new (non-repurposed) rides since then). They probably figured it was about time to add something.

You would think after what was announced at D23 we would be somewhat happy. It just shows that some fans are just insatiable, I mean we basically already know Phase 1 TSPL, Phase 2 SWL. Why do we need to know Phase 3 and 4 right now? Disney changes their minds so often I'd rather worry about these future phases when we near the middle of Phase 2 construction. IDK just feel its a little premature to ask for details as of now. Don't get me wrong I will definitely be elated for our great insiders to say something, but is seems like some are just trying to pull teeth. For what its worth thanks to you in the know that are sharing what they can, though some of us can be overbearing...... So what's the news on Phase 5? J/k

I don't think it's ideal at all. The castle parks have generalized themed areas that are evocative of an era or non-specific locations. Toontown was already a bit of an odd addition to that, but it still has a generalized feel and Mickey and friends are such a big part of Disney that it kinda fits.

But Star Wars is just a completely different animal. It messes with the entire vibe of the castle park too much because having an IP specific land contrasts how the rest of the park is set up.

Personally, from an aesthetic standpoint, I'd have rather they "saved" Star Wars (and maybe Marvel as well) as a big component for a third gate in Anaheim since it isn't a particular good fit for either DL or DCA.
