Star Wars Land announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

The DL version wasn’t a flop but had a botched opening due to Disney being overly cautious of big crowds.

Did I miss reports that DL capped attendance into the park or SWGE or stopped selling tickets? Pretty sure if millions of people wanted to come see it, they could walk right up and buy tickets, but they haven't.

Yes, they kept out the low priced annual passes, but that was the entire point of building it. If they wanted to let the reduced priced hordes in, they could have not invested anything and filled the park like last year.

It (so far) has been a horrendous flop.

(But enough about DL, this is the DHS thread, so here we'll just pretend the upcoming big DHS crowds will make the exact same creative magically better)

It did not go as planned. To call the land a failure this early in the game is foolish. The whole land isn't open.

What we can call a failure is how they opened the land in DLR.

Yeah, but the lack of music. Only one ride. Cramped Cantina. You can’t walk up the ramp. It’s a total disaster.

None of that says "disaster". It points out things that need adjustment.

* Music could easily be added
* The one ride situation will soon be rectified
* Cantina will eventually be attached to the restaurant. I can see that as a legit criticism but hardly a disaster.
* Can't walk up the ramp? Seriously? That is such a bit pick. Most people won't notice or care.

Yes. I would not expect this strategy to be used again, but having a new land with two headliners where one can open earlier is rather uncommon to begin with. What’s the last land that opened with two E-tickets? You wouldn’t open Pandora without FoP.

Or it could be like DL where everyone got bored and left and they didn't need to control access after the first few hours.

This is key.

There was a horde of fanatic crazies waiting to get into Star Wars Land at Disneyland at rope drop on the first official day without reservations on June 24th. And that frenzy lasted about six hours. Disneyland's Virtual Queue system hasn't been used since.

A week later the place was dead and Falcon had a 30 minute wait. It was so dead, and so obviously dead just by looking at the Disneyland App, that I jumped in an Uber and went to Star Wars Land for the evening on a whim and rode the Falcon three times that evening and saw everything except the Cantina, whose rude and stressed out hostesses were obviously on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

I have no doubt the DHS version of Star Wars Land will have a crazy frenzy on the opening day. There will be lines, there will be crowds, there will be a three hour wait for the Millennium Falcon, there will be neckbeard bloggers live streaming the drinking fountains and the urinals in the mens room.

But the real test is what the DHS clone of this land is like a week later. Say, Monday, September 9th. If the land is still mobbed and there is still a Virtual Queue to get in, we'll know it's just a Disneyland problem and that DHS audiences are somehow more excited about Star Wars Land than Disneyland audiences are.

I can't wait to see what happens! Most folks would pop popcorn, but I'll be making a rye Manhattan instead!

I was at Toy Story Land in opening day. Walked over to DHS from YC at about 10am and was told by multiple CMs that there was a 2-3 hour wait to get into the land. We were still able to walk in. Later that afternoon there was no wait to get into the land. The rides still had crazy lines. I expect the same to happen at Galaxy’s Edge on opening day. To hedge my bets I do have reservations for Savi’s and Oga’s.

Considering thousands of people have now experienced it at DHS and a purple wall is still getting more social media buzz and FOMO, the creative is getting the same "tepid", as another poster put it, response as it did from the millions who have seen it for the past two months.

Queue the "...but someday when it becomes the SWGE in my mind it will be great!!!" responses.

Does GE have anything to do with Han Solo, Leia, Luke, Chewie, Jabba, Boba Fett, or Lando? Is it set in the future or past, relative to the original 3 moves?

Kylo Ren is walking around so I suppose it is set at some point during/slightly before the sequel trilogy.

There is also apparently a 'mystery' animatronic in RotR, and I feel like it's going to be (older) Han, Luke or Leia.
