What Bio calls a "bowl" here at the Toy Story entrance looks to me like a blast crater complete with surrounding debris:

Looks like the top of one of the towers that is waiting to be lifted into place.

That makes total sense considering the horizontal line pattern that's present to the left of the crater and above the TSL entrance. Could be that this area was a bit nicer at one time and then a battle or disaster of some sort did some damage. Could even be the cause of the trees dying and being petrified.

I guess there never was a complete model of the DHS version of this land. I’m curious to see what the unfinished area is going to look like. Are there still structures that have not been built? Or will there be more trees and landscaping added?

At first they were afraid, they were petrified. Kept thinking they could never live without Hondo at their side. But then they spent so many nights thinking Hondo did them wrong, and the grew strong, and they learned how to get along. And Hondo's back, from outer space. Did he think they'd crumble? Did he think they'd lay down and die? Oh no, not the Spire, the Spire will survive.

How many acres is that? I know it’s supposed to be the expansion area but they will need to expand on day one.

I’m sure someone will measure it, but it’s big enough to hold the main queue and show building of Alcatraz. And the rest of the queue with a bit of bending here and there.
