You're right. Somehow I had it in my head that it was scheduled to open THIS fall. We're still at least 16 months out, and I imagine there's a lot of work going on inside the two show buildings that we can't see.

"Squish" is an animation term for verticle compression of a character that was first employed in an audio-animatronic with Ursula in the Little Mermaid ride.Universal 'imagineers' call it "squinch."

I just used the common word. Transformers doesn't use that technique a lot because you're usually stationary in front of the screen. They use the Cinerama effect more. (There is some, but no where near SM)And was that what @Rich Brownn was referring to with a curved projection screen? Because they very specifically used 'squinch' with the Spider-Man ride of which Transformers is a clone, which would imply that that effect is in question there.
They really aren't that far behind Anaheim. They have made major progress in catching up to the other project in part due to the dry winter and spring. The progress is astonishing in my opinion. They're really not as far along as I thought they would be by now.
I wonder if there's any possibility of it opening ahead of schedule? They really aren't that far behind Anaheim. They have made major progress in catching up to the other project in part due to the dry winter and spring. The progress is astonishing in my opinion.
Apologies to everyone, but I edited this post a couple of times due to accidentally prematurely hitting post. Also I edited for clarity one last time (again, for clarity/restructuring).
Is it stated anywhere what projects/changes the retention pond is offsetting? For instance, do we know how much of it is the new parking lot vs the cast parking lot vs the new experience/hotel?

Where will guests be staged for Disneyland's version? We've heard Grand Avenue and the Indiana Jones Theater for DHS.The DHS project is so lucky because it has regular flyovers and excellent photos of construction, and it makes the Disneylanders jealous because the flyovers and aerial photographs are so few and far between in Anaheim.
But there was a Marine Corps aviator who just snapped a high quality photo of the Disneyland version of Star Wars Land this past weekend. As a way of thanks to all the Florida-based folks who offer up all those cool photos, I'll post this here as a little gift from Southern California.
It's fun to see the differences between the two projects and the various states of construction in the two lands!

Best Guest would be that they utilize all three entry portals. If I were Josh D'Amaro, I would...
- Stage folks entering with a Battle Escape Maxpass on the Critter Country entry shooting the line down along the Rivers of America past the Canoe dock and in front of Haunted Mansion.
- Stage folks entering with a Millenium Falcon Maxpass on the easternmost Frontierland entry.
- Use the middle Frontierland entry portal as the land exit and/or the entry for anyone with priority privileges.
Thanks for the explanation. What is Disneyland's max capacity? 75k? I'm guessing DHS is probably closer to 50K?Yes, my assumption is similar.
The main land entry would be held at the central Big Thunder Trail entrance with the trail mostly consisting of switchbacks. The trail would essentially be closed for through traffic. No exit would occur at that central portal.
Exits would be available at either the Eastern Big Thunder trail for the Eastern portion of the park or the Hungry Bear for the Western portion. The only guests allowed to swim upstream through the Fantasyland gates or Hungry Bear trail would be those guests with Maxpass in presumably a close-timed window (i.e. <15minutes).
The opening procedure would be different somewhat akin to what Pandora was doing it. Guests rope-dropping each attraction would be routed to the Hungry Bear entrance for Battle Escape or the Eastern entryway for Millennium Falcon. Once those initial crowds are let through with the land filling up the gates "close" and post-opening crowds are sent to the central gate to line up, or potentially given a return time to line up like Potter does for general land entry.
Of course Galaxy's Edge is significantly larger than Hogsmeade or Pandora with two attractions with gargantuan queues. So I don't know realistically how much limited land entry itself is going to be a thing outside of the opening frame and a few initial holidays.
What will be interesting is how one of the lowest ride capacity Disney parks compares to one of the higher ride capacity Disney parks in this. I think there will be meaningful differences between the two from the way crowds react to this option.
DHS very well might be more as it is roughly 50 acres larger than DL.Thanks for the explanation. What is Disneyland's max capacity? 75k? I'm guessing DHS is probably closer to 50K?
And it doesn’t have even a fraction of the amount of attractions DL has. Go figure.DHS very well might be more as it is roughly 50 acres larger than DL.
Open space is nothing to be scoffed at.And it doesn’t have even a fraction of the amount of attractions DL has. Go figure.

A quick google led me to 70k max capacity for DHS and 80k for DL, so they're not too far off. The DHS number was supposedly based on a number of factors including parking while the DL number was sourced from "insiders" at the LA Times.
In my two trips I never felt any more cramped at DL than I have during busy days at WDW.Open space is nothing to be scoffed at.
