IMO, it's better than the BatB show which is better than the Little Mermaid show. So, if they're going to do something better, start with those.

It is an excellent show. It is not just a sing along.

I know. I've seen it in person. And I've actually watched it several times on youtube. I said "it's a fine show" and I liked the historians. I wouldn't call it "excellent" but that's a matter of personal opinion. It's better than expected. And unless they've plussed it, yes it is just a sing-along. Characters come out, briefly. Elsa finishes it off. But it's just a sing-along.

Beauty and the Beast is better.

I know there was a rumor awhile back about Mermaid being replaced by Tangled, but after seeing Moana, I wonder if it would be better to replace it with that instead. I know Tangled needs better representation in the parks, but Moana currently just has a M&G somewhere (or is she only meeting guests at the Poly? I can't remember). A Tamatoa puppet would be beautiful.

Edit- I know that this would be a tricky movie to convert to the stage, because holy smokes there is a lot of backstory before Moana and Maui team up. But it's doable. It just requires some maneuvering (like BatB).
  • Open the show with 'We Know the Way' and Moana's ancestors.
  • Have an animated and/or puppet segment narrated by Gramma Tala that explains the curse and how the ocean chose Moana to restore the heart of Te Fiti with Maui
  • Flash forward to Moana singing "How Far I'll Go" on her boat
  • "You're Welcome" with Maui
  • More narration from Gramma, brief attack of the Kakamora, leading to "Shiny" with a gorgeous Tamatoa puppet
  • Gramma narrates the first attempt to restore the heart, she and Moana share the stage together for "I Am Moana".
  • Final fight with more puppets, heart of Te Fiti is restored, end with the reprise of "We Know the Way".
Like the other stage musicals at DHS, it'd be a quick recap of the major events and songs (and in this case, would delete a couple), but I think it's a worthy replacement of Mermaid. Replace one movie about the ocean with another.

Well, as long as we're all acknowledging we're sharing subjective opinions here... The reason why I don't rate BatB higher is that there are no live vocal performances... it's all lip sync. And I prefer the live performance of the comedians to the lip synced performance of the dancers. The live dancing sort of saves BatB, but it's a small stage and the dancing isn't that complex. But apparently the lyrics are because the last time I saw it, some of the the background dancers didn't seem to know the lyrics very well. That and the open air theater reduces the enjoyment of BatB for me.

If they were to have any live-singing show (Tangled, Frozen, Mary Poppins) ready to replace Frozen sing-along... I could live with that. But first, oust Mermaid, or, make that show a better musical.

The advantage of putting in Tangled is that there is a show ready to clone from the cruise line's version. That could hit the theater in just months. If we wait for them to create a live Moana show... that could be two years from now. Then again, the likelihood of anything going off line for a refurb is low until TSL opens.

I've been disappointed with BATB for awhile now (and by awhile, I mean the times I saw it when I went to Disney World, so it's been 8 1/2 years). It should have been retooled ages ago, but while there have been changes over the years, they haven't been for the best. Maybe they put it back in the show, but in the early 90s, the Kill the Beast number was a lot longer and had more dancers (I distinctly remember being scared of dancing bats).

Is the Tangled show like a full length show a la Aladdin? Or is it more like Little Mermaid?

Speaking to the Tangled musical on the cruise line, they also have a Frozen musical too ;) ... I'd personally prefer Tangled myself if I had a say or a choice

Does anybody moderate threads ?
This has nothing to do with the Star Wars Expansion.

We're talking about what can be done with the space that will be freed up when (or if) the other SW stuff (Star Tours, Launch Bay) leave once SWL is open. Yeah, it's a little off topic, but the thread is about the announcement that SWL is going to be built. I don't think there's anything more to be said about that announcement. ;)

And again, they could easily move that show so everybody wins :)
Is the former Idol theater big enough? The Frozen singalong isn't really needed anymore.
Wait. DHS still does the Frozen sing along? Why?
Because we're just tourists, what do we know?
So?

They can't do something better?

Not being sarcastic but them doing the bare minimum because it fills the theater isn't an excuse.

It's a fine show, for what it is, but I'm sort of shocked at the people coming to it's defense. The park has other more pressing problems so this isn't one of them, but still ...
They can and have. I'll be seeing it in DCA in July.

What be nice is if they can fit in a Carrie Fisher tribute somewhere ?
I could see something being put in as a tribute to Leia in some kind of Rebel controlled section.

Yeah, it seems when they shifted Star Wars, while I'm thrilled by it, we got the short end of the makeover stick. Sounds like at least Monstropolis was on the table. And they kept going back and forth on Cars Land. If we got Cars Land would we have gotten Toy Story Land too, as well as Monstropolis?

"Phase 3" (though I guess not really?) sounds like a bunch of show and dining updates, which should have already happened. JMO.
This may be unpopular but I kind of wish we got the Paris/HK Toy Story Lands in a way. It would have been a lot cheaper/smaller, and we could have gotten more in the end.

I can't remember if it was a rumor, or if I'm mixing a rumor with the plan for Tokyo, but is DHS getting an enclosed theater for the reworked BatB?
It's been an on and off on going rumor for a while now (kind of like the parking garage :p). And with a couple combinations of no new show/new show/upgraded show with enclosed theater/same theater.

Moana does have a meet and greet in OMD, so don't worry there's that movie's quality parks representation :p

Personally I would prefer Moana for DAK/Advland, just because something about it doesn't feel like it should be a stage show but rather a more immersive environment. Tangled would make a better show IMO.

I'd love Moana to get a flume ride in Adventureland (seriously, her ride needs to be on a boat).

Plus, a giant Tamatoa AA is exactly what Disney needs to continue their tradition of huge AAs that don't work.

I'd prefer her in Adventureland as well but I still maintain DHS "needs" (yes that's subjective) a water attraction. I think Indy would be perfectly suited for that but Moana would be nice too. Since they seem to stick things where they don't belong ...

Bringing this over to the proper thread....

The thing is, WDI wants 100% immersion contained in SW areas. I know that The SW processionals and fashion shows get the axe once SWE opens. Lots and lots of streetmosphere will be present there. No spectaculars will be in SWE, although one was considered and is prone to being reconsidered. Nightly fireworks may be visible from SWE, but barely. LB is still back and forth as to whether it stays open, with TDO's biggest problem being "what next" which they can't seem to answer (within a penny pinching range of course). No variation of LB will be in SWE, but a few props will be littered about.

Speaking of what stuff will be in (or not in) the Star Wars land... do you know of any additional experiences planned for the land itself beyond the two rides? Will they have M&Gs? Will they have some version of Jedi Training Academy or any other show?

Why not a Kenny Baker tribute? There's a lot of actors from Star Wars that could be recognized, I wouldn't open Pandora's box in that regard unless they are willing to acknowledge many folks.

Because people know Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher most can say James Earl Jones voiced Darth Vader but who is Kenny Baker ?
Ok, The guy had something to do with R2-D2, googled it.

Does not have to be anything grand a plaque somewhere ?
Corner plaque in memory to actors that are no longer with us.
It can have Kenny Baker too and add names when people pass .....

At least I do not talk about Beauty and the Beast in a Star Wars thread !!!
