Star Wars Land announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

$4 billion for EPCOT
It won't be inferior at all. I'm just a bit discouraged it's not an actual expansion and I'm all for repurposing and re-using and that's fine, it's just not what I wanted to hear, I guess. It doesn't mean the land will suck at all. I'm prepared to be impressed and enjoy it even if they 'shoehorn' it in but it just reminds me of all the years of WDW slightly getting the short end and losing things to be replaced by things instead of simply adding. I get it from a numbers perspective but it just kind of annoys me. LOL. Just a minor gripe. Not trying to knock the land at all. I'm sure it will look fantastic, I have no doubt.

It just makes no sense to me that they use Echo and Hollywood Dine. I think that's a bit lazy and I'm just not picturing a good transition but they could easily prove me wrong and I hope they do.

Well I'm pretty sure it will expand somewhat into the parking lot. The word expansion doesn't excite me or upset me. I'm just happy for one of my favorite franchises is getting it's own land. Personally, I wish they would have fixed DHS years ago so they would have chosen Star Wars to be a 5th park. haha

It's being value-engineered into the Echo Lake area to take advantage of the existing facilities.

Remember, the began as just adding the Falcon and replacing Backlot Express with the Cantina (which was all it was originally supposed to be as a first phase). It has simply evolved and grown to take up more of the Echo Lake area from those original plans.

That's so disappointing. But expected, I suppose. I guess the end result is what matters and it will look fantastic.

I just don't understand the point of "expanding" a park that needs help capacity wise and attraction count wise when all you're doing is replacing existing attractions and shows and not actually gaining any capacity. Heck with the new Toy Story Land, why do have to take out One Man's Dream and Voyage of the Little Mermaid to add a walkway, why not use the giant walkway that already exists between TSMM and the Jack Sparrow complex that literally leads right to where Toy Story Land would be.

This. A lot of this just doesn't make sense. I get opening up the area to walk into the new Toy Story Land, but that's a huge chunk of building they're losing and the transition from Hollywood to Star Wars just seems jarring. It should be further away and more of a journey to get to the new destination. Eh, maybe it will look better than I'm imagining. The pieces just aren't all fitting yet.

Exactly. Echo Lake is visible from Hollywood Boulevard and the area in front of the GMR. It's an extension of Hollywood Boulevard, I just don't imagine them plopping it right on top of 1930s Hollywood Boulevard, especially when there are so many other options.

Does anyone have any actual idea about when we'll hear solid dates and information about what's actually happening? Or are we all just waiting now?

Solid dates are a long way off. At some point we will get a year, then some time after that we will get a year and a season. Final date will not come until much closer to opening.
I guess I mean, when will we get details on what's actually closing and what isn't. That kind of stuff.

Wow..... Sounds like BobbyC isn't familiar with talking to fans/guests/consumers. Sounds like he's talking to a group of executives, because normal people don't talk that way.

Know your audience, Bob. Know your audience.

Nah that is the press conference speak. He knows who he is talking to a bunch of lifestylers taking video to post on social media.

Ive been to many pressers. Too many to count. Trying to make an interesting photo from a boring press conference is rather difficult and a highly underrated skill IMO.

Anyways, from politicians to theme park executives (and countless people in between), I've never heard someone use such business-centric language before. I remember covering Blackberry world when it was in Orlando and their executive didn't use all the boardroom talk.

Its just a reflection of the culture created within Burbank and the disconnect they have from their audience.

I mean, if any of my friends spoke like that at trivia night or at a bar? There'd be a quick "Oh STHU." Know your audience is my lesson for today.....

If we lose Star Tours that is 9 attractions closed then add 2 + 2 = 4 potentially 2 more in the wings, we still have a deficit of attractions. Meaning Disney and the bozos at Glendale, Burbank and those who sit on the Board are well ... *cough*

Looking at that concept art, everyone seems to be in Star Wars costume, and it looks great, but seeing that shot of the Falcon photo-op, I can't help thinking that when surrounded by hundreds of double-wide strollers and glow-in-the-dark tour groups, the immersiveness might be somewhat lost.
