I initially agreed about the lack of aliens in Pandora. Then I got to thinking that's pretty much the norm in Disney theme parks aside from CMs working attractions, food and retail vaguely dressed for the setting. Historically, the characters are mainly in the rides with some exceptions like Main Street or Buena Vista Street citizens, which may not even be there when you walk through.

So, a thought I have for discussion-

What would star wars land be without Potterland?

As in, I personally believe that Disney designed star wars land as a direct response to Potterland (took em long enough for sure, but, it is Disney... They take forever). The ride was built to be cutting edge as the harry Potter ride, we have intensely immersive theming, we have an experience for guests to personalize their own item from the franchise (wand/sabre), we have blue milk to counter butter beer... As far as I'm concerned with star wars land, Disney took the whole Harry Potter experience and said, let's make this, but with our property.

So, my question is, let's say that Potterland never existed, Disney owns star wars... In this alternate universe, what do you think Disney would have done?

Would Disney have built SW:GE without Potterland? No, not in the way it is now.

As I recall there had been rumors about a SW themed land long before Potterland. With the last rumor being an retheme of TL. So in my opinion I would think that is what would have happened, a SW retheme of TL including the rumored Endor Speeder coaster.

Nothing this quickly or so massive.

This post hits a lot of things discussed.

I don't talk about my dealings with the 55'ers, and other factions of the retired senior CM'. But I have made multiple friendships over the decades.

I don't talk out of school for many reasons, but releasing things I am not supposed to is a key reason.

But it is at least semi-public knowledge that many CM's were sent to USO and USH to see everything and do many reports. I have seen them at USH many times personally.

So yes, Universal shot a large cannon at Disney. Now, the agreement to obtain the IP rights did require the level of theming Universal did. But the merchandising and food all came directly through the Universal staff.

So without Universal getting the HP IP, Disney wouldn't have built GE at Disneyland.

At DHS, a park with known problems, you might have gotten an, as in one, attraction that wouldn't cost as much as either new attraction. How much less? That would be something the Bean Counters would decide.

And then, when the Eastern Gateway was completed, a copy would have gone on the current Transit Plaza. And would go to DCA to help boost attendance.

Disneyland Park would have remained as is, and some sort of Tomorrowland upgrade would have happened.

We are fortunate the money was available at the time HP was announced for Universal. That started the many year process needed.

One point, Six Flags and Cedar Fair work on 5 year plans for major projects.

Nothing.

Disney has had the theme park rights to Star Wars since Ron Miller (not Eisner) started the negotiations with George Lucas in the early 80s.

After Star Tours the most they ever did with the property were dance shows and ones were kids would play with plastic light sabers. The company was more than content to just cash in on nostalgic and cross brand (ie Jedi Mickey) merch for many years.

It took them almost 25 years to update Star Tours.
