I can't bring myself to return to Micechat after being away for so many years. What does it say? Is it bad? Or is it really, really bad?

Regardless of my distaste for RatTalk (or its proprietor) I found the information credible. I'll try and reach out to my contacts in the next few days.

Clearly there is a story here, just from what Disney has announced re: the schedule for DL. There are significant issues here--crowds, no ROTR, and a missed opportunity with the table-service restaurant/show. There are some other potential repercussions yet to be revealed. My sources tell me there is basically no plan for live entertainment, yet the entertainment division is about to begin a complete relocation backstage. The closer we get to May 31, the greater the chance for massive upheaval if TDA tries to bring in more entertainment at the last minute. I believe this story will only get more interesting over the next three months. YMMV.

As for the new parking structure, it doesn't look like they are six months from opening to me. I was there last week and I thought it was looking very good, including the SW corner, which is the last to finish major construction. I saw them opening the old walls from M&F to the connecting bridges, all escalators are installed, shade covers are about to go in over the escalators and rotundas, and the soffit is being prepped at ground floor-level for the entrance to security and tram boarding. This looks 80-90% finished to me. How long does it take to do striping, finished electrical, and paving on the plaza? All I can see that is still outstanding are the pedestrian overpass over Magic Way, elevators, and support facilities (offices, breakroom, restrooms) on the ground floor.

Forbidden Journey stops are remarkably awkward because the ride car is usually oriented at some bizarre angle and you're just hanging there like you're stuck in a spiderweb.

The worst is when the ride stops when you're in front of those screens. You just sit there in mid-air staring at a blank screen. And then when the ride starts back up, the seat will bounce around as normal but the video and audio won't play and you're still looking at a blank screen.

I love Forbidden Journey, but man if that's not a real flaw.

I admit I don't understand why they cancelled the full service restaurant? Up until now I thought that was a sure thing. I don't care personally and probably wouldn't be able afford to eat there but it seems like all their big full service restaurants or at least the themed ones like Blue Bayou and Carthay theater are huge hits. I can only imagine what people would've paid to hang out in a full on SW restaurant. They can charge the drinks up the ying yang too. Why would they cancel one of the things that actually draws money? That's the only confusing one to me.

Exactly. For about a year or two it would have been the only sit-down restaurant on the DL side that served alcohol. AND IT'S PART OF THE FREAKING CANTINA!!! It's a gold mine! It would have been the biggest single source of revenue in SWL and that's the part they cancelled? OTOH, from the aerial view, the open space doesn't look that big for a restaurant and kitchen. But they could have doubled or tripled the size of the Cantina and added tapas. Granted, it would have been overrun with APs like Cove Bar. But they would have made a fortune!

No, but there's a stand where they will sell Blue Milk Tea with extra Boba Fett balls.

Interesting to see that RotR has a higher height restriction than Smugglers Run. It's in the same league as Soarin, ToT and Star Tours. I checked and the Ratatouille ride in Paris (which uses the same trackless ride tech) has no height restrictions. Whatever they have planned for that "drop" at the end must be pretty wild.

There will be FAR, FAR more motion in the vehicles themselves than there is in the Ratatouille vehicles, not including the drop. They’ll have more than twice as many axis of motion, faster movements, sharper movements. It’s night and day. They use the same LPS technology and the similarities start and end there. Antarctica at Seaworld is a closer comparison and that has a height requirement of 42 inches (vs. RotR’s 40) and has no drop. The drop adds little to nothing to the height requirement.

Yeah its just weird. The way I remember it being explained had it similar to Carthay theater and you had the full service restaurant taking up most of the building but the cantina taking up the rest. So if there is no more restaurant is there something else the replaced it with or just building the cantina on its own. And if so why is that so small now??? I don't get it, I thought it was smaller because they were more focused on the restaurant end. And they made such a big deal about selling alcohol but then added hardly any real space for it. Is there another place that will sell alcohol or is it literally just the cantina now? If the restaurant is gone then at least increase the cantina and double the size for more people. Many will just want to come and soak up the atmosphere and buy something but now will be in a ridiculous line just to get a table. So far I been one of the least critical over SWL but this is a real head scratcher.

They were going to build it, but then FreshBaked complained they could see a gap, so they cancelled it.

Is this what the schmuck is referencing? This is clearly not Watto, so shut up. That said, these do not look in-universe at all.

Also the shop should've been called Toy-darians and located in Sunshine Plaza in Disney's California Adventure.

Yes. It’s a generic Toydarian.

I think this is the vibe they were going for. A mixture of these two toys from The Force Awakens and Rogue One.

I can confirm the news posted earlier here about the RotR delay - my source has confirmed that there are startup issues with the RotR ride.
I also can confirm a ride vehicle torn apart.

That sucks. Any idea how long they think the delay will be though? Are they at least thinking it will open in the summer or is it much longer?

...they didn't say but I didn't ask. I'll ask and see what I hear back. yeah, bummer, but this is DL so maybe FL can avoid this issue by learning from DL. As soon as I hear anything I will post.

I am curious, but beyond sheer scale- what's the piece of tech being implemented into RotR that blows everything else away?

Is there new animatronic tech? New ride vehicle tech? New projection mapping tech?

I have no doubt it'll be an excellent ride, but it looks like it's relying on size, scale, and variety to blow everyone away- I wonder if Disney is hiding something new and cutting edge.
