99% sure I predicted they would do this
I'm 100% sure that I predicted they would do this. ;)

From 02/02:
$5 says someone in the big yellow and green building finally realized they could turn the side of the Alcatraz show building into a giant billboard, hence the decorative border. For the record, I don't think it's a bad idea! It may be better than a blank wall.

I was wondering what they were going to cover the backside of BE with. I guess billboards makes the most sense. Was hoping for something more creative.

I thought SWL was a cancer on DL and would totally destroy the aesthetics and what it means to be a castle park?

It is. After all, Walt Disney and Tony Baxter wanted you to see back of house warehouses, the Banco Popular building on Ball Road, and the foothills of Fullerton from the second lift on Big Thunder Mountain. That view was carefully curated by the original Imagineers, and they never wanted a land to be built north of Frontierland!

Walt and Tony wanted it this way! To change it is heresy!

Careful. I agree with your point, but before Big Thunder ranch was removed, the view was sufficiently blocked off by trees.

While I don't subscribe to the idea that GE doesn't belong in Disneyland because it's a single IP land, or Walt wouldn't have wanted it or the aesthetics will be ruined, I do have reservations because of the space limitations at DLR. There are already parking issues, overcrowding, and a host of infrastructure problems. Disney is working on those, but it seems like too little, to late. My guess is the park will be pretty unpleasant for a while after GE opens

I think you are right, but honestly, having GE in Disneyland is forcing them to make Ops improvements to this 63 year old park. They could have spent even more money to create NEW infrastructure necessary to support a 3rd park. Then they'd be bigger, but spread out thinner (Ops budget-wise). Things like Bengal BBQ reorg, Tropical Hideaway, the new Small World & Dumbo queues, and probably this Space Mountain Starcade queue just wouldn't be happening because all the money would be poured into building a new park.

Critter Country would still be a dead end and the Rivers of America would be neglected for another couple of decades.

I have a feeling that more changes are coming to the DLR in the next year before GE opens up.

AP changes, parking, FP+, etc., are all coming and will limit how much chaos will be experiences the first few months.

Yes, and all that will help, but I think the swarm hitting the resort when GE opens is going to be like nothing else and will overwhelm Disney

I don't disagree, but I think there will be things like I mentioned that Disney will do to help. Also while the first couple weeks will be hit hard, I have a feeling after that it'll smooth out.

There's no WAY that things will level out after only a couple weeks. I'm thinking months. And it probably won't help that Disney will try and launch some "Summer of Star Wars/Seasons of the Force" garbage during this time too.

I have a feeling that people will stay away for fear of massive crowds for the first few months. So after the initial couple weeks of hard core fans, it'll get into a rhythm.

Until the massive crowds who stayed away decide it's "safe" and throw everything off again. I think you're wildly underestimating how chaotic things will be from summer until at least Christmas time (when they'll only get worse again). I say, enjoy things at DL the way they are while you still can.

Yeah, I'm staying away from Disney for a couple months after SW:GE opens. I'll try to go in February/March on a rainy day to ride both attractions once and then stay away from that side of the park for the foreseeable future.
