So I'm remembering bits and pieces from my most recent trip to DLR. I didn't take pictures, but I'm pretty sure the crates in the "staff only" backstage queue for MF:SR had qr codes to play on that disney app thing. So again I'm confused about that area.

I followed the opening fairly closely and totally never heard about this street show that was apparently only one once during previews. Any signs that this could come back? I love the 90's pyro stunt show vibe.

Oh, cool. So all the vloggers and media types got to see this, to fuel their positive write ups for the land.

Meanwhile, the *paying* guests get “bright suns”

Thanks so much for sharing that video. It does give me hope within the coming months we might see the land activated from deserted movie set to functional ecosystem of storytelling and adventure.

Till the spire.

Finally! I tried to track down a full video of that show with no avail since it happened. I really think they should do that daily...

It might be a stretch but is there any chance that Lucas included some royalty agreement in the purchase of Lucasfilm? For using characters he created in the other 6 movies?

as somebody who watched that show at the media event, I'm shocked that they aren't doing that in the land every day. totally assumed it was a regular, daily event.

This would be a start but it doesn’t address the main issues with the land. The land needs atmospheric entertainment. Give us a Star Wars version of the Dapper Dans or the bootstrappers/ whatever the pirate band from NOS was called. Give us some droids (stationary & moving & have some that talk to us) and Aliens walking around. Generic aliens walking around are more important than Chewie and Rey walking around. They create a sense of place better than Rey or Chewie can. Put an AA Bantha somewhere. Give us Some Star Warsian street entertainment, whatever that is.

Basically stuff I don’t necessarily have to stop and watch like a stage show but stuff I can feel and enjoy passing by.

I guess the issue is they didn’t want this place to be “fun.” They wanted to differentiate it from Disneyland. They wanted it to be “real” and “immersive.”

Video from DHS showing changes:

Uh-oh. The DHS version is just as silent, just as dead and lifeless, as the Disneyland version.

There are some differences in layout, especially that condensed and shortened forest area at the entrance off of Grand Avenue at DHS. And there are some minor differences in color palette. All the dorky managers wearing Earthling Business Casual and the several WDW Security Guards in bright blue uniforms are a classy touch. Bright Suns!

But the operational reality of the DHS version looks and sounds exactly the same as Disneyland. No music. Mostly silence. Some weird animal noises from some of the planters. No characters except for Chewbacca and two Stormtroopers. No stunt show. No roaming droids. No aliens. No life. It's visually and aesthetically impressive, but after the first few moments it feels dead and lifeless and like a big static window display. TDO apparently couldn't change much from the Disneyland version, as Mr. Chapek wouldn't give them the budget to do so.

This is going to be a problem for both coasts.

At least we can be glad that our version doesn’t have Andy’s toys looming in the distance

Looming is probably a bit of a stretch as a description, since you can only see that view from the second floor of the Falcon queue, where the intended view that 99% of guests will focus on is the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy that is literally right in front of you and that is the focus of the ride you are waiting for. If you are looking to be distracted, you can see Andy's yard until the trees grow out, but you won't notice unless you are looking for trouble.

They had the same issue in DL... how do you hide the Matterhorn from any second story view anywhere in DL?

They're solution was to lower the overhanging shutter so you can only look down.
The Matterhorn isn’t visible from the Falcon queue but Big Thunder is, and it blends in really well with the rest of SWGE from that view.

In the WDW videos I kept looking for Tower of Terror. That would be an interesting thing to see from Star Wars.
