I think trying to be some sort of luxury experience was a mistake. Star Wars is known for its grittiness and scoundrels and it seems it would have been better for the Halcyon to be a bit of a “con,” a tiny little ship with a less than reputable captain trying to pass off a “hunk of junk” as a luxury cruise. The captain could regale you with stories of heroic deeds at any and all major events because she wasn’t actually there. Smuggling or illicit activities would explain the inevitable boarding by the First Order better than yet another spy. It’d explain why you’re going down on to a dinky outpost at the edge of the galaxy, the lack of amenities, etc.

This point doesn't get enough focus. WDI has lost any ability to tell a cohesive, logical (and God forbid fun and entertaining) story.

Why would ANY leisure cruise ship (luxury or not) stop at a rundown, abandoned, rusted out droid infested, dump on the outskirts of the galaxy, like Batuu?

Pretty amazing how much better this entire "space tourism" concept was done back in 1986 when Star Tours opened.

Makes more and more sense (as a story) for the guests / travelers to be Rebel Scum recruits captured by the Empire as they (mistakenly) think they are being transported to a Rebel Alliance vessel but actually end up on an Empire prison ship (Halcyon). After enjoying the hospitality of their captors (The Empire) over night the next day Rebel Alliance forces conduct a rescue mission and the Rebel Scum recruits (guests / travelers) escape to and through Batuu. It would make sense to escape through "a rundown, abandoned, rusted out droid infested, dump on the outskirts of the galaxy, like Batuu". Just a possible remedy to the story line.

Feel free to take that up with Disney - they are the ones going out of their way to not refer to it as a mere “hotel”, since it is clearly their intention that it not be perceived that way by guests.

It’s an “immersive 48 hour role play experience”, not mere overnight lodging with amenities. Whether or not any of us agree that it looks like a GOOD one is irrelevant - by design it is not a “hotel”.

A Hospital is not a Hotel simply because it has a lobby and you can sleep there.
wait.. so the hospital has a pool?

Maybe something goes terribly wrong with the ship and the marks/guests are tasked with going down to Batuu to get critical parts? They might have to get specific items from the outpost?

Don't most of the luxury cruise ships consist mostly, if not exclusively, of suites?

I suppose it depends on what you're classifying as luxury, but I don't think any of the Disney ships would fall in the luxury class.
Nope, lots smaller with a higher crew to guest ratio

Kind of like dumping excess ballast, in this case guests / travelers. Once dumped in Batuu the guests / travelers can work their way through batuu to their valet parked cars where their luggage will be waiting for them neatly placed behind each vehicle. Since the Halcyon (in the story line) is disabled and unable to continue no sense bringing the guests / travelers back. Interesting possibility.

Were you saying no about the suites, or agreeing that the Disney ships aren't luxury?

I personally think cruises are terrible, so I'm not exactly an expert on all the different ships, but I remember seeing something about one luxury cruise ship that was entirely suites. That could be an outlier.

Agree, Disney and lux are not in the same universe. Any time you cater to the masses and depend on volume lux goes out the window.

Star Tours is fun. It makes you smile from the moment you enter the building. You see R2D2 and C3P0 working on a ship... then you see a droid inspecting luggage while cracking jokes. The whole thing is designed to be entertaining and fun.

Compare that directly with the Falcon Run.

And compare Rise with another Tony Baxter masterpiece... Indy. There’s humor. It’s not just “immersive” it’s also fun and makes you laugh and smile.

Apparently, you missed the hi-la-ri-ous banter over the radio in the Falcon Run queue! Intergalactic comedy gold!

6) The success or failure of the Starcruiser will effect the resort as a whole, either by encouraging or discouraging further upcharge experiences, boutique hotels, and the replication of other elements of the Starcruiser. It may also effect future investment in the parks themselves.

I think this is pretty key. My hope would be that if this does fail initially, it will show them that they can't just print money. They actually need to offer something next level, especially when it comes to Star Wars fans. My fear is that the executives will think that they did offer something special even though they appear to have not.

I think the Disney Parks mega fan who loyally books multiple trips a year because they have pixie dust pumping through their veins is not the same type of person as a mega Star Wars fan. SW fans can be incredibly critical and expect a lot.
They blew most of us away with Galaxy's Edge and specifically Rise of the Resistance so the bar was so, so incredibly high for this experience.

For me, though, its not emotional. It doesn't cause me to be visibly or virtually angry. But there's also no chance we would consider staying there. Even if it proves to be amazing. We could afford it, but there's just so many other places out in the world that we could experience for that price tag.
