I stand corrected.
But... The Axiom is also a much larger vessel, and not a repurposed ship.
Much like giant cruise ships offer much more than smaller, older ships.
From the image.. the starcruiser seemed to be larger than your average cruise ship (as in medium sized cruise ship, not compared to Oasis or Quantum megaships )

Also re-purpose?
Is there a backstory that the starcruiser was another kind of ship that was repurposed for cruising?

In my experience, half the stops on our Caribbean cruise have warnings to only stay in the safety of the touristy-trappy area. Just a few blocks further into town and one is in a sketchy neighborhood.

Those on the Halcyon excursion are getting dropped off in the area under the First Order supervision with troopers walking about. Stay close to the market and the restaurant and cantina, and you'll be safe. Definitely don't wander off into the woods where there are reports of rebels, or giant space toys...

And whatever you do don't book a third party excursion. If you are delayed the ship won't wait for you and you could end up back at the port only to find out the Starcruiser is halfway to Naboo without you.

This is a "luxury starcruiser". The marketing people said so, it must be true!

Funny how there is a fair amount of availability 2 months after this opens, but what you hear repeated over and over is how much demand there is for this and how many departure dates sold out. Sure, there could be one open room on all the dates shown in the calendar. Do I think that's the case? Hell no.

Once again, TWDC executive hubris is shining through - They really think there is a massive pool of Disney Star Wars fans willing to shell out $5000+ for what they think is a "Disney Star Wars luxury galactic starcruiser".

(Notice I said "Disney Star Wars" and not "Star Wars". There's a difference.)

The strangest thing is that there already IS a Star Wars day on Disney's cruise ships. So if you want to take an actual cruise and also do cosplay/character interaction/eat "Star Wars" food/play lightsaber, you can do that! They even give you Star Wars room decor (for an upcharge, of course).

Yep. It's a fun day, too, especially when you get randomly stopped by Imperial officers while walking down a hall and are asked for your identification. :D

But you're actually on a boat. In the ocean. Not on a Star Cruiser.

I don't get the point...

OH NO!!!!!
Soooooo Hmmmmmm This could impact the galactic Star Cruiser? Will there be a prerequisite COVID19 test prior to boarding? If there is a positive result will that party be denied boarding and money refunded / allowed to rebook at a later date w no upcharge?

And Chapek heaves a huge sigh of relief as the PR team works on the announcement...

The CDC is only concerned about actual ocean-going vessels. Land-based venues are fine. Casinos, sports stadiums, airplanes, Walmart, etc., all good.

Clearly Disney was hoping that a March opening would separate Starcruiser from having to have any serious Covid mitigation in place… when that date was set I think we were assuming indoor mask requirements would be long past.

Instead, now it looks like it will be opening right on the tail of the Omicron wave. Even if it’s ‘not a cruise’, ‘really!’, it still involves several hundred people in closer, longer duration contact then they would normally be in either a traditional hotel or park environment. Can’t mask during these long ‘show’ dinners together, so you don’t even have that going for you. Honestly it reads like all the problems of a cruise with none of the baked in testing / vaccine requirements that the cruise industry is relying on, so I would think concern is very warranted.

True statement, BUT in the case of the Galactic Star Cruiser it is unique. 300+ people in an enclosed (though filtered and temperature controlled) atmosphere, in close proximity and interacting continuously with each other for approximately 2 (two) days which exceeds the exposure time frames for the venues you refer to. So yeah, it's something to think about.

Setting aside the latest CDC Cruise guidance let's talk Disney. The current Disney policy for "masks" up front and I quote "Face coverings are required for all Guests (ages 2 and up) in all indoor locations, regardless of vaccination status. This includes upon entering and throughout all indoor attractions and indoor queues and in Disney buses, monorail and Disney Skyliner, regardless of vaccination status. Face coverings are optional for Guests in outdoor areas." The Galactic Star Cruiser definitely falls under the category of "indoor attractions" with only a little over 60+ days to the maiden voyage at the very least Disney's own policies will impact The Galactic Star Cruiser experience. The Disney Chief Medical Officer has been quite silent for quite a while.
