Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker Reactions: SPOILERS

I think “not my Star Wars“ is a dumb criticism, because there isn’t nor should be a set definition of what it is, but when people throw out accusations of people not understanding or getting Star Wars, that’s what they’re saying. I tend not to give those thoughts much credence.

I think what you classify as “whiny” has turned out to be brutally honest and correct. The more Lucas and Disney attempted to reinvent what the original movies did...instead of understanding why they hit the emotional cords they did...the more they have made the franchise look disjointed and less impactful.

Lily nailed why upthread.

I’ve said it a million times: you’re not gonna beat the Star Wars core fan at this game. No sense in trying to...
And then his immediate reaction to his nephew was to kill him. Also, keep in mind his nephew hadn’t actually done anything yet. He only looked into his mind and saw a bit of darkness.
People are still arguing about The Last Jedi on this thread about The Rise of Skywalker? Quit your whining, boomers, and accept that Luke Skywalker is true hero with depth and not just some shallow, all-powerful being!

Anyway, I just wanted to say Episode IX should've opened with "Hope has returned to the galaxy! The legend of Luke Skywalker has spread, inspiring systems to join the Resistance," given that's what's set up at the end of The Last Jedi, you know, because Luke's an awesome hero in that movie.

That's all.
No, he looked into his mind and saw what had been polluting it. His greatest enemy, Palpatine. It hit a familiar nerve in him, so he reacted defensively in the moment. A cooler head prevailed, but by then it was too late. He never realized what he’d actually seen, and it broke him.

First, a dude that tries to get yucks by complaining about EVERYTHING Disneyland doesn’t do is wading into the wilderness here...

Second, Luke was a pretty easy to embrace hero archetype that went on a well crafted journey of discovery and had a coherent story arc for three movies...
It was more than he loved mommy and daddy...

We can again spend the next ten years debating things that were never debated...until the next reboot...but we’re running through quicksand.

Are you going to address my main point about how I think TROS should've opened?

That was the opening I was hoping for, however sadly he didn't spark any systems to join the resistance. In RoS Poe is hoping and trying to figure out away to get systems to help.

Mandalorian has proven that. Provided they get capable individuals (which there are several) to take this forward, then yeah, the ship can be righted.

But The Last Jedi did stop the Disney Trilogy............dead in it's tracks.

Hardly. Ep 9 is disappointing at the bo but does conclude the saga satisfactorily. Disney and Lucasfilm can build on that foundation.

A billion dollars at the box office is a billion dollars. Other studios would love that kind of sucess

"El Gran Magnifico"

Mr Flibble is Very Cross.
The PR spin game going on between Bad Robot and Disney is quite something. There's some real bad blood here. So not only is the fan base divided, so are the creatives and management groups. Boyega is dropping bombs on the Reylos, you know Hamill isn't happy with the outcome, you got editors coming out and speaking publicly.....a real s8*tshow.

The RT GA score is 4th of 5th place of the 11 SW films. So many are enjoying it. The visual spectacle alone on the big screen is worth the price of admission. It will have a good legacy. IMO.

It’s going to make the the 3rd least amount of money of Star Wars movies based on adjusted gross...

So it will have fewer tickets sold and fewer butts in seat that all but solo and attack of the clones.

I guess the “measure” of success is very subjective here...but I figured that when people called NFL and toy story land “amazing” 😳

Those two things are not equal. I thought it was an ok movie. That doesnt mean I thought it was a good ending to the entire saga, but he did what he could (and sounding like forced to do in some cases).

Justice league made 220% of its budget at the box office...

Warner brothers was so happy it fired the studio chiefs over it.

It’s not what it makes...it’s what the suits pushing the stock think it left on the table.

That...to a “T”...is the current management at Disney.

Justice league was written by a Chris Terrio...that name should sound familiar too

Even I can't sugarcoat the damage Ep 8 did to the franchise. Many legacy fans sadly won't see Ep 9 in theaters due to their experience with the last film. But they will see it on the secondary market and will enjoy it more than they think now. So the process of restoring the franchise is underway.

You just opened a window into your soul.

You are a consumer (or at least your parents are)...why would you “sugarcoat” anything Disney does? It’s your responsibility to demand quality or quality falls off a cliff.

It’s like when they jack up the price of something 50% or outwardly lie...”we’re raising the prices to lower attendance and go luxury”

🐂 💩

Hold. The. Line. !!

I do agree with you about 8...it torpedoed the Disney trilogy and possibly the whole franchise...time will tell.

But so many scoffed and snitted at that idea and it’s now irrefutably true...(cough...some still do😳...)

The ONLY way for them them to start the “process” of restoring the franchise is getting better talent...apparently my favorite insider: ME...pointed it out.

Iger knows what he has to do

We have opposing world views for the most part. Negativity feeds on itself. Especially when it is not coming from critical thinking but rather emotions. But this thread is not about this.

Star Wars needs a competent show runner. Everyone knows this now. I think they're working on it.

We do have differing views...

But it’s not world views...it’s basic consumer products and/or economics.

There is no unwritten rule to “be positive” about what you buy...as suggested for 20 years on the disboards.

In fact...in the case of Disney...if they pick up that’s what you’re doing, they will figuratively strangle you with it over time. I’ve been behind the wall.

Back to Star Wars - I hope they can save it and understand...but my confidence isn’t at its peak right now
