I think “not my Star Wars“ is a dumb criticism, because there isn’t nor should be a set definition of what it is, but when people throw out accusations of people not understanding or getting Star Wars, that’s what they’re saying. I tend not to give those thoughts much credence.
I think what you classify as “whiny” has turned out to be brutally honest and correct. The more Lucas and Disney attempted to reinvent what the original movies did...instead of understanding why they hit the emotional cords they did...the more they have made the franchise look disjointed and less impactful.
Lily nailed why upthread.
I’ve said it a million times: you’re not gonna beat the Star Wars core fan at this game. No sense in trying to...
And then his immediate reaction to his nephew was to kill him. Also, keep in mind his nephew hadn’t actually done anything yet. He only looked into his mind and saw a bit of darkness.
People are still arguing about The Last Jedi on this thread about The Rise of Skywalker? Quit your whining, boomers, and accept that Luke Skywalker is true hero with depth and not just some shallow, all-powerful being!
Anyway, I just wanted to say Episode IX should've opened with "Hope has returned to the galaxy! The legend of Luke Skywalker has spread, inspiring systems to join the Resistance," given that's what's set up at the end of The Last Jedi, you know, because Luke's an awesome hero in that movie.
That's all.
No, he looked into his mind and saw what had been polluting it. His greatest enemy, Palpatine. It hit a familiar nerve in him, so he reacted defensively in the moment. A cooler head prevailed, but by then it was too late. He never realized what he’d actually seen, and it broke him.
First, a dude that tries to get yucks by complaining about EVERYTHING Disneyland doesn’t do is wading into the wilderness here...
Second, Luke was a pretty easy to embrace hero archetype that went on a well crafted journey of discovery and had a coherent story arc for three movies...
It was more than he loved mommy and daddy...
We can again spend the next ten years debating things that were never debated...until the next reboot...but we’re running through quicksand.
