Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker Reactions: SPOILERS

Did somebody just refer to the stupid internet trolls from two years for the entire reason Star Wars has fallen on hard times for LFL...

...while completely ignoring the new pro-LFL trolls that are contributing to episode 9 collapsing in the box office as we speak from two days ago ?

Selective memory? Or the standard pro-Disney nonsense?

This was more of a necessity than Poe’s ex that’s only on screen for like a minute and a half. Is it just me or did Disney go even further than Lucas with making useless new characters simply for merchandising? Phasma, Zorii, Sith Troopers, etc.
Useless characters are on a whole new level. At least Jango fett and the trade federation had a “function” in the story.

That felicity character was beyond stupid...joining the pantheon of holdo, plasma, and maz of pointless for the sake of...I don’t have any idea what?
Some people really don’t understand the concept of “lightening in a bottle”.

And a few don’t understand that Star Wars is the opposite of “lightning in a bottle”

The exact opposite...as a whole. It was the strongest franchise ever. Was. They still sell return of Jedi toys to kids born 30 years after the movie left the theaters...

I know you’re not a staunch pro-Disney guy (stamps is the “oracle of truth” on that scale)...but to try and reduce Star Wars down to a group of “take it or leave” franchises looks pro-Disney to cover mistakes...and it rewrites about 40 years of pop culture and business history

Last Action Hero Luke would have been an atrocious thematic decision.

Or a modern update of the yoda or obiwan characters...

Come on, Tony...I feel like you’re paddling upstream against the river of truth here...

Did you like the last Johnson THAT much. The public would differ when it comes to what’s important to Star Wars...and therefore Disney

Overall fan ratings (from Rotten Tomatoes):

97% The Empire Strikes Back
96% A New Hope
94% Return of the Jedi
86% The Force Awakens, The Rise of Skywalker
66% Revenge of the Sith
59% The Phantom Menace
56% Attack of the Clones
43% The Last Jedi

I'd quibble a little with The Force Awakens being so high and Revenge of the Sith being so low, but I otherwise agree. I'm a fan of Star Wars, but I'm not at the level of the hardcore fans. I saw all of the films during their first runs in theaters, but only with the original trilogy and Rise of Skywalker was I motivated to see the film twice in actual theaters.

Rise of Skywalker did what it had to do: end the disjointed trilogy and end the nine-film saga in a fun and satisfying way. It did that.

I guess that’s fair...

The only change I make - as a hardcore Star Wars fan is to drop 7 and 9 down a little lower due to fail to deliver on potential.

9...in so many ways...is trying to put a good face on an “admission of failure” by Disney, Abrams, LFL, etc...

In the long game...I have little doubt that opinion will be shared/grow

Yes, but it wasn't ep9 that says that, it was the announcement JJ was coming back. 3 weeks before last jedi hit, Kennedy couldn't stop gushing over it. She said Rian was so great to work with, and she was so happy with the results, he's getting his own trilogy. So considering they went back to JJ after going against most of his movie, shows they were in damage control with 9 well before it was written. So ep9 was really no surprise with how it unfolded.

The problem is they thought the public was gonna buy all that...

I think we will find that “Star Wars” sold the tickets...the name alone...the actual last two movies (3 if you count solo) drove the interest and residual business away substantially...

That seems to be why it’s been “damage control” for several years. You know how I know? Disney won’t admit they’re in damage control...proof they are.

That also directly contradicts Star Wars is “just another franchise” explanation that’s been rolling out. No other franchise would get this business in the face of frankly bad movies

Here’s today’s “it ain’t looking good...” article uodate

These new estimates...which means the domestic box office will all bUt flatline next week...

Indicates a total domestic haul at about $500...and total international at around $1 billion

Now I get to hear how that’s a “huge success”, right?

Some people really don’t understand the concept of “lightening in a bottle”.

They're totally blonde to the concept!

Just like all the talk of her being fired for the past several years?

You mean the one where Iger approaches abrams to replace her in 2018...he dodged it...Kennedy leaked her own contract option being picked up - which is not a new contract as the Hollywood reporter false indicated...and Abrams ultimately signed a production deal with warner brothers he had been negotiating during this schedule of events??

THAT crazy stuff?

If Kennedy does go to something else...all of this will be confirmed.

But by common sense...don’t expect Iger to make an announcement at disneycon about it.

Still a lot of “ifs” for sure.

Did you see the box office predictions now?? $37 this weekend...total domestic of about $450 by Sunday...so falloff is now, total domestic about $500

50/50 star wars split puts world wide total at $1,000,000,000.

Uh oh...Disney may not have that big party and invite us to it. Better not double the rates on the “starliner” or whatever that’s called either...(sounds like a carnival cruise ship)

I bet you’ve been watching this...come on? 😉

And I was wrong...my skepticism failed me. I said two months ago this movie would gross $750 domestic and $1.5-1.6 billion worldwide.
I was way off...as a complete skeptic.

Went down like a chump Jedi in attack of the gladiators

Here's one of my biggest problems with Disney's Trilogy.

I think this is from the latest Ultimate Guide released after TROS...
8MpR5QQ.jpg

And the fact that they had the backstory edited out because "fans didn't need to know"?

As the leaks ooze out...Maryanne Brandon....collaborator with abrams on all movies...told the press that the scenes where the reason why palpatine “survived”’were ordered to be edited out.

Throwing LFL and or Disney under the schoolbus

Abrams camp is now warring back at Disney...lining up the ranks in the face of relative “failure”.

Pointing out some empty suit deemed that tidbit “not necessary”. Return of the Jedi hasn’t been out THAT long...it’s not like everyone has seen it...

I get what they’re saying: that’s not important...but 6 Finn “woooos!” And 11 Rey, poe, Finn group hugs were...😂

This could get “ugly” in Hollywood tworms.

Anyways... sorry to disturb your thread.

Think of it as a “quarantine”...if I’m here...it keeps me from stirring up trouble in other places...

Like the lady who said “free dining is the only way I can afford the room at wilderness lodge and still afford to eat!”

Direct quote...I wish I could make that up. I was “reserved” on that one.

This thread is a GOOD thing...it’s like Spock being sacrificed in wrath of Khan to save the 1701...

I like you, Penguin...I like your data based approach to things and attention to details.

I know you hate me...but that doesn’t matter. I’m gonna make you my friend anyway 😎
