Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker Reactions: SPOILERS

Luke Skywalker DID bring victory. He held off the First Order, sacrificing himself so that the Resistance could live to fight. This act not only humiliated Kylo Ren and First Order, it created a spark which would ignite the entire galaxy and giving birth to a new generation of Jedi.

And Yoda...he didn't really do anything other than mentor Luke. How disappointing would it have been to have Luke just teach Rey about the Force and for her to leave him, maybe to return in the third film to watch him die? Nope, I prefer Johnson's savior Luke.
Luke sacrificing himself didn't create a spark according to RoS cause still no one was with the resistance. If we started the movie with factions standing up, having joined the resistance to fight the first order cause they saw what Skywalker did, then that would have been something somewhat redeemable. Instead now Luke dies to save what's left of the resistance which is cool... but it didn't spark help.. maybe future Jedi though

That's what Johnson sets up. I don't look at what JJ did with it as RoS is fanboi fever dream rather than a film.

I think Ruin Johnson fans expected Rose Tico to be the one who killed Palpatine

She was a bad character in a terrible film. At least that's one think RoS got right. Why not the outcry for the lack of screen-time for Luke. Ah, right. It didn't fit the agenda.

Because Luke's story was concluded beautifully in the last film. :)

Besides, JJ had to have time for a bunch of new pointless underdeveloped characters who don't pay off. He wanted to take what he did with Phasma and do it times 5. Yay. Plus, we had to find time to work Lando back into the plot. And construct scenes around him sitting. Put your disco shirt on Billy D! The 45 year olds want to see familiar things that don't scare them!

Now your just kinda shouting from the rooftop.

I haven’t seen anyone describe what happened with the luke character as “beautiful”...

And the financials have shown it. It was a bad idea and bad execution. Now you’re retconning the actual events as they unfolded.

You are more than welcome to your opinion...it has not born out for TWDC in facts

Most critics applauded Luke's arc. The film is also #9 in World Box Office, so the financials show this film as successful to say the least. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it, but I'm with the critics in agreement that TLJ was a breath of fresh air and quite a good movie.

A lot of people trash TLJ haters not because of their opinions of the film, but because a not insignificant amount become absolutely toxic in how they conduct themselves. They drove Kelly Marie Tran and Daisy Ridley off social media and harassed Rian Johnson because they were butthurt that he ruined their precious baby.

Im sorry for them... but random twitter trolling and yt comment culture really has no relevancy to the posters or discussion here. Whenever you bring up or reference that behavior when someone is discussing their view in the discussion here, you are simply stereotyping and dismissing them point blank because of some parallels to a completely disconnected group of life-less people.

Your critiques fall flat when your argument's punchline resorts to petty generalizations of the fanbase that aren't true. It's no better than those who bash fans of TLJ just because they like it.

Again with the critics? Most fans didn't.

Critics DO know film. If you see 1-2 movies a year, you don't know the art form. You can still say whether you enjoyed it or not, but your opinion doesn't carry much weight. When you see 50-100 movies a year, you kind of have a better understanding, especially those with film background.

And many critics are fans of Star Wars. Go back and read the reviews, they love them some Star Wars and still loved what Johnson did with the film and franchise.

What you call generalizations, I call observations. I see these people in my daily life.

Nice straw man argument. Who wanted this?

Just because certain people really disliked her character, doesn't mean everyone else somehow found her extremely compelling.

I'm surprised at the actual length of her screen time in RoS, as she felt present in the movie as a character. Regardless, her character served a purpose in TLJ, and with the focus being on the core three in the new movie, she was used less and this is totally appropriate.

I’ll tell you what though...if they do twin suns yet again I’m gonna throw the popcorn bucket at the screen. I’ve not confirmed that intentionally. That was a throw away scene the first time...STAAAHP reusing it.

A grown man throwing a literal temper tantrum because they tie up the trilogy with Rey watching the twin suns from Luke's old homestead.

Sounds about right.

This we can agree on. However, I find the outrage amusing. It comes back to a complete disconnect between Abrams and Johnson (for which the blame lies squarely on Kennedy).

Abrams developed what he considered to be his "big 3". Johnson separated them and made Tico a pivotal part of one of their arcs.

Abrams was left with a few ways he could have played it. 1. Include Tico as now the 4th lead 2. Evolve the Tico/Finn story to the detriment of the others. 3. Discard Tico and focus on his original three. If you read what is going around the internet about how Tico's character "was wronged" - it's amazing.

I have only seen the film once... and havent read breakdowns etc...

Did rose and finn even have any “lets just be friends” moment or acknowledgement of their relationship in RoS?

My takeway from my viewing was she was just the “other voice” in scenes... stating obvious or non decision kind of stuff in scenes.
