That's what Johnson sets up. I don't look at what JJ did with it as RoS is fanboi fever dream rather than a film.
Yes TLJ did set that up, and I was saying I wish RoS went with that atleast(id rather other things, but that's besides the point). And RoS is no fan film lol.. I dont see it..

A remake of The Last Jedi without Ewoks and its NOT a fan film? A forced kiss between Kylo and Rey. Lando being included for no reason other than he's a character people like. Rey using Luke's X-Wing for no reason other than people like the originals. Chewie getting a medal for no reason other than fans used to jokingly complain about him not getting one in New Hope. Rey throwing her lightsaber for Luke to catch it.

I could go on, but there's no point. Some people love references and that equals good writing. Hey, the Epic Movie/Disaster Movie/____ Movie films showed that was enough for many members of the audience. TROS will make its money, but its clearly not close to Star Wars' best.

I find things like "another Death Star?" "Another planet killer" "impulse speed race" and other stupid plot points far more grating then simple tips like chewy's medal. But beating some things down like catch phrases especially when completely out of character are a close second

I refrased what I ment, It was a bit of a fan film, however I guess it depends on what your looking for in a star wars movie.

Most critics applauded Luke's arc. The film is also #9 in World Box Office, so the financials show this film as successful to say the least. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it, but I'm with the critics in agreement that TLJ was a breath of fresh air and quite a good movie.

I don’t remember reading a single critical review that mentioned hamill or the character....and as stated a million times...the degree the movie fell off from 7 is not a “victory” in studio Hollywood by any means.

A grown man throwing a literal temper tantrum because they tie up the trilogy with Rey watching the twin suns from Luke's old homestead.

Sounds about right.
That would be a metaphor...hyperbole...or something...

Aka: not real. Adults usually can tell the difference...unless they are in one of those places where sense of humor is illegal 🤔

And that scene is TIRED...as is the fascination with the desert. Maybe if Lucas hadn’t done the same thing in 2005? But at least it fits there

I’m not. I’m not quite sure why so many disliked it.
Because they are tied to all the others...not standalone.

If they started making weird MCU films...there would be a poop ton of criticism and vocal as all hell as well.

This three pic arc will be fought over for years...and that is not the intent. That falls at the feet of KK and her merry band of “trailblazers”

We thought the Ewoks were stupid...we didn’t fight that the plot was incoherent. Key difference

The Budget of TLJ was $200 Million - $317 Million
It took in $1.321 Billion in Box Office alone. That isn't a loss. Or breaking even. If we play a game and we don't tie or lose, what's it called? A victory.

And you don't remember critics mentioned Hamil/Luke? The character who makes up 1/3 of the film? Riiiight.

"What's most interesting to me about The Last Jedi is Luke's return as the mentor rather than the student, grappling with his failure in this new role, and later aspiring to be the wise and patient teacher. " - https://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/star-wars-the-last-jedi-luke-skywalker/Content?oid=37051070

"Rey needs to persuade Luke to come back to the Resistance fight, but he resists. He’s a shell of his old, swaggering self, a gaunt figure in a hooded cloak: All the fight has been beaten out of him, but Hamill’s performance nonetheless shows us the still-burning soul cowering deep inside this husk of a man. Luke gets the movie’s most glorious moment, and also its funniest; Hamill deserves both. " - https://time.com/5061707/star-wars-the-last-jedi-review/

"Still, The Last Jedi belongs to Hamill in a portrayal that cuts to the core of what Star Wars means to a generation of dreamers looking to the heavens. In the 40 years since the actor first played Luke Skywalker, we’ve followed him from callow youth to Jedi master. But it’s here that Hamill gives the performance of his career, nailing every nuance of an iconic role and rewarding the emotional investment we’ve made in him. However, I find the outrage amusing. It comes back to a complete disconnect between Abrams and Johnson (for which the blame lies squarely on Kennedy).
Ding ding ding! Correct! You really can't blame anyone except Kennedy and Iger for letting things become a relay race.

Rise of skywalker was better than I had expected it to be. I think they settled on the lesser of 2 evils with this movie. They leaned heavily into the nostalgia to close out this trilogy. And I'm glad they did because I got some cool star wars imagery/moments because of it. did they earn a lot of those moments? Not really. But there is zero chance they call a redo so I'd rather have this than continue down the last jedi path. The biggest takeaway I had from this movie was what a missed opportunity this trilogy was. Lando not showing up last movie was a missed opportunity, but I'm glad they put him in, even though it was shoehorned. I'll take what I can get at this point and hope enough of a message was sent and we get a change for the better.

Guardians of the Galaxy? Thor Ragnorok? The upcomming Multiverse of Madness?
Well guardians did set up the single biggest thing in the infinity saga. The infinity stones and their power. And dark world also revolved around an infinity stone. There is plot line through all the mcu movies thus far. It is extremely obvious that there was a comon plan and direction for the entire infinity saga. Something that was sorely needed in this star wars trilogy.

Yep...all that nonsense

To be clear: I was replying to biscuits “I don’t understand why there’s so much hate for this movie?”

Because they structured it as a “collective”...as they have with marvel. Past sins are not forgiven...they become amplified unless you start stacking Ws

It’s been doing very well this week...the audience have not shown the “detest” that the critics had for retconning their boy rian the beard and his subverting

We should watch the BO numbers very closely through next Sunday...that will all but determine final numbers

I think this film plays very well for everyday movie goers who aren’t as invested in Star Wars.

It’s fun, action packed, and feels like Star Wars. Nitpicking, and should woulda coulda conversations aside, I foresee it having decent legs. Already seems to have better legs then Jedi.
