Do people realize that this latest trailer has instantly energized the fanbase and has caused a surge in interest and excitement in the movie? And for good reason I might add. It was really amazing and intriguing.

If done correctly, it does not spit on ROTJ.

I’d say you need some bacon with those sunny side up eggs...

How did you come to the realization that the fanbase is “instantly energized”? And who’s in the fanbase now?

These are rather ambiguous statements.

But I’m gonna be fair:

Instead of two prebooked showings with 10+ people on the opening days...and a son’s birthday party at the end of the year at the theater (15-17)...I’m gonna wait to see what the reaction is...and read the entire movie as it is presented, and see if people say it’s “good” in mass to a margin of error of 0.001%...
Then, if abrams and Kennedy didn’t maintain this completely aszinine tact they chose and actually made a movie that attempts to be a Star Wars...

Then I’m gonna go see it maybe 10 days later.

I’m sure that’s what Disney was going for 😎

So you're saying that it's a human requirement to be negative about this movie and if you're not, there's something wrong?

Apparently that “energized” fanbase still hasn’t bought a ton of tickets...

A $200 over under opening predicts a $500-$600 or so total domestic (but that’s dangerous in this case) and perhaps a $1.1-1.3 total overall based on the precedents of Star Wars movies.

Is that good?

That would fall into a massive failure in my eyes, and honestly final nail in if TLJ did any damage. I've been pretty consistent that it needs to beat TLJ for me to accept that there has not been serious damage done to the franchise. I think it needs to hit $1.6. I honestly would be surprised if it doesn't get to $1.6 honestly, as I still am not sure it's done as much damage as others think, but this is a true test for me (more than Solo or Galaxy Edge).

Absolutely love the last line in that article. Best album ever.

Um, that’s lower than TLJ. I think that’s trouble if that’s what it pulls in.

I’ve said in the past if Disney played their cards right they could’ve had another Infinity War/Endgame with this Trilogy. They had the original beloved characters and actors back and had a completely fresh slate. The fact that IX doesn’t have Endgame level hype behind it is a failure in my eyes.

Forget End Game. I'm not sure this has Frozen 2/Lion King hype.

How did you come up with that? He said what he is going to do. You are the one that claimed the entire fanbase has been reenergized.
I said the fanbase, not the entire fanbase. In other words, not every single person was energized, but the overall feeling from that little trailer was very positive. And look at specific box office tracking in the past 24 hours since it launched. The number of tickets sold has increased quite a bit since then. After a week of toxic, negative press, this trailer was released at the time they needed it the most.

I'll have to take your word on that, I haven't seen any presale data by day. I just have a tough time saying the trailer energized the fan base considering it has 300k views.

You’re letting your fandom influence your argument.

There is really no case to be made for “fandom energizing”

The sense seems to be that there is a 50/50 excitement/skepticism split amongst hard core fans. That doesn’t capture the general audience that will buy tickets...no real way to gauge that.

By this time next week - less than 7 days - we’ll know

The die will be cast on basically the state of the franchise.
There can be positives either way...I’m sure we can discuss later

And the “toxic, negative press” is 100% thr longterm backlash from the reboot and last Johnson. There’s a need to vent and the pressure is being released. I’ve said it for years based on my Star Wars instincts that they are approaching this incorrectly. And sometimes you are proven right.

LOL-letting positive reactions influence me? Really? So, I should be a hater like you? Yeah, shame on me. I thought that people who were pessimistic were the ones being influenced by the negative youtubers and "gamers" that have filled the internet with nothing but vitriol about this movie and what "Disney has done TO SW". My bad! I guess it's the other way around. I guess those who are still interested, see people actually excited for once about this movie are being sadly influenced by a few rare individuals who aren't tangled in the negative press.

Btw, is this a Disney board? Because there sure is a lot of Disney hate going around from what I've read on this particular thread.

Now you went COMPLETELY off the grid.

Who said anything about “Disney hate”? Is criticism of Disney’s stewardship of Star Wars classified as such?

Because it is about just this one property. Nobody is crapping on Epcot. And criticism is just that...An analysis indicating shortcomings and the potential of corrections or further developments.

And I’m going to say this just once more...slowly.

Do the research. This movie is not tracking incredibly well. Not for Star Wars...and not for what should be a movie that should shatter box office records.

I didn’t choose it to be this way, Skip. Yet it still is this way.

You want to subscribe to “five angry guys” theory? Fine...that is your right.
Discount the drop in merch sales...discount the actors criticizing the movies they’re in...discount the flop of solo...discount the Disney CEO icing all Star Wars movies...the “announcement” and cancellation of 2 new “trilogies” in the span of 2 years.

Go ahead...let’s see how it plays.

And what’s does “excited for once about this movie” even mean?

Are you suggesting Disney didn’t have their shot? Nobody showed four years ago and gave $2 bil for a reboot?
That didn’t happen?

Must be hard on the planet you’re living on...really tough.

I’ll leave you with this...I had to stop for a potty break today and I happened to see the Star Wars toy section at a large retailer...on December 13th.

See if you can find it:

Holy crap! Ok. Now I'm hyped. I always figured someone who posing as vader to kylo. I'm seeing this next Saturday with my family. Fingers crossed it's good! I'm trying to stay positive.
The fact that the Emperor was snoke the whole time is great. The whole throne room scene in last jedi was like a big stage with the red. Snoke was nothing but a puppet Palpatine used to influence Kylo.

I still hope they managed to pull SOMETHING decent together. It will be a pleasant surprise.

I am surprised by this spot...not only that it’s so late in the game...but it’s got a very “prequel” tone to it...

Head scratching.
