Star Wars Ep. 9 Thread

Putting this in a spoiler in case you want to go in spoiler free.

A new report suggests that one of the popular new arrivals from Episode 8 may not be seen again in the main saga - at least not from what anybody knows so far. And with so many plot points to tie up in the next film, can we assume this particular person’s arc is already finished? As it stands, it would appear so.
That person is DJ - played by Benicio Del Toro.
According to Making Star Wars’ report on the latest leaks and rumours from the set, there are currently no indications that Del Toro has filmed new scenes.
And he’s not alone: it seems the Porgs won’t have much to do in the next movie either.
Writer Amanda Ward said: “At this time there has not been anything about DJ or Porgs in Star Wars: Episode IX.
“It doesn’t mean they aren’t in the film but they apparently won’t be making anything centered around them either.
“Both licensees and Pinewood sources haven’t mentioned either at this point. It wouldn’t surprise me if Chewbacca still had a Porg buddy on the Falcon but I don’t think we’re going to see as man as we did by the end of The Last Jedi.
“We also haven’t seen or heard a thing about DJ playing a part in IX.”
DJ wasn’t particularly left on a cliffhanger in Episode 9, so - unless there is a specific narrative reason to see him again - it does seem feasible that he could disappear.
The likes of Laura Dern and Gwendoline Christie are also thought to be absent from the next movie, given that their characters were specifically shown being killed off in The Last Jedi.
Episode 9 is currently in production, and will end the Skywalker saga.
Rumours have begun surfacing in recent days that some form of early footage will be teased this month, although this has not been confirmed.

No DJ, porgs, Holdo or Phasma! Hoping this is true. Still, I'm keeping my expectations in the basement.

May I ask, why??

Abrams mainly...he does these “mysterious” big budget trailers for his movies - leading the audience to believe the movie will have story/character depth that isn’t necessarily there.

Honestly...the best part about his Star Wars “masterpiece” was the third trailer. The movie itself was just a meticulous, high budget reboot. It has meat on the ribs for the new generation who didn’t grow up with Star Wars...but doesn’t really for anyone not in development.

TNT continues to run rogue one on a weekly loop...the contrast between that and the new episodes is stark...the grit and occasional “moments” change the feel. The original trilogy had
The greatest legs of any movie ever made...and that’s what has been mostly elusive
Because trailers today spoil nearly half the movie.

Yes...and this one is in a unique/bizarre scenario

I’ll get blasted...but I don’t see that they have anything to work with?

Carrie Fisher and billy dee Williams isn’t a warning sign to Anyone else??

Rogue One spoiled me as far as SW goes. It did everything right, especially the last half-hour.

And LFL acted like it was an embarrassment leading up to its release...
Which proves to me they have bad leadership. They know the history of Star Wars but don’t understand why it was what it was...

The need for new leadership/direction seems
Clear to me.
And they acted like last jedi was every bit on the same par with the original trilogy. Kennedys lack of vision is apparent, that's for sure.

Since they didn't do the super bowl, I'm not sure we will see anything till celebration in April. Of course Disney has no real rime or reason on these types of things lately so who knows. I just don't see the point to releasing it in march with nothing going on then.

Agree...

What’s in it for them without a gift shop in a banquet hall next door?

There’s no mystery about anything Star Wars at this point. They mothballed damn near everything last year and then doubled down 3 months after solo. They’re just gonna let it sit on the sidelines for now and milk the hell out of the lands.

I’m not really judging it...it is what it is.

I gotta say I have zero expectations for 9 and I will bet that I'll still be disappointed.
The only thing that might make 9 slightly more enjoyable is if JJ totally disregards 8. Kinda like RJ did to 7.

But hey, I too have enjoyed watching R1 the past several days. Great movie. Plus, I'm excited to get a look at The Mandolorian. So there's that at least.

I think JJ could pull off an enjoyable movie. But I’m not sure that we will get the satisfying conclusion to the trilogy that we want because of a lot of what happened in 8. I have more faith in JJ because I don't think he will bow to all of Kennedys nonsense. Force awakens I thought did a great job re-establishing the world and I don't think JJ says ok to coming back unless he gets to do his thing. So I do think we can get a good movie, the sequel trilogy will always be a missed opportunity though.

I love your opinion on Star Wars...

But...I have to disagree about abrams. I think doing a reboot was EXACLTY bowing to iger and Kennedy. Star Wars needed a “recentering”...not a reboot. It’s a pivotal mistake for the IP that can’t be undone.

As far as “his terms”...remember that abrams was a producer of 8...it wasn’t Like he didn’t know what was being shot.
What am I saying? He’s in it for the money...I don’t doubt he had concerns...but he went along with that low talent clown Johnson and figured it would be ok enough. I’m sure his Ego about his “party event” sequel clouded his judgement.

Then they realized at Disney what happened...they really have nothing left for 9 and pooching 2 out of 3 is exactly what happened with the prequell.

In a way...they made the exact same mistake...ignoring compelling new story for packagable “new fans”’and “new products”

And again...the old guard was proven correct. The story, the characters, the social and political undertones were never broken...
It wasn’t broke and you break it when you “fix it”.
