Star Wars Ep. 9 Thread

I just got done reading through some Reddit threads, and there were some really interesting theories about ep9!

A lot of people believe that Rey might be one of many clones, which could explain the Sith Rey we see in the trailer/teaser (whatever you call that) if what we saw wasn't just a force vision. I mean, Palpatine was all about cloning back then, so maybe he continued doing it? My friends also tell me that there are secret Imperial factories on Jakku where that cloning could happen. I guess that was explained in the comics?

The really interesting theory I read about was WHO Rey could be cloned from. Some people think she was created from Luke's hand! JJ originally wanted to show Luke's hand holding onto his lightsaber as it floated through space, so this is another reason why people are thinking that JJ would try and bring back this missing hand plot again in the last movie. She doesnt look like him, so maybe she's just a genetic creation from Luke's DNA or something. I don't know... I'm just summarizing what people were saying.

If the clone thing with Rey is real, then it could also explain some things from ep7 and ep8. It would explain why Rey had that force flashback of Bespin (where Luke lost his hand), and it would give new meaning to the mirror cave vision she had on Ahch-To. The many reflections of her could represent her many clones.

Also, just for some fun trivia, people mentioned that the double red lightsaber idea came from the TV show Rebels. The main characters find a Jedi temple, and the temple guard there used the same double flipping lightsaber we see Rey/not-Rey using in the trailer, except it's yellow.

The red-eyed (evil??) C-3PO in this trailer looks far more menacing than Snoke ever did.

And I still am holding to the prediction that Rey is not having a dream/vision in that last scene, nor has she turned to the dark side. She is in disguise as a Knight of Ren, either to infiltrate their lot, or someone else.

We've had heroes pose as Stormtroopers in ANH.
But we've never seen someone pose as a Sith, or whatever the Knights are supposed to be.

I'm calling it now. That's what Rey is doing. And the image we see in this trailer is her revealing to whomever that it's her.

Oh! I like that theory. That'd be cool to see her infiltrating the Knights of Ren and stealing their secrets. And yes, that evil C3PO made me amd my friends jump a little. That was sick!

This was never what happened. The EU was “legends-ized” because some was in spaces that Disney wanted to go, and it wasn’t even completely internally consistent. The idea was that everything in the new canon would be harmonious. There was never a 180, because there was always going to be a new EU. The first book in the Aftermath trilogy was released before Episode VII.
I’m not a EU defender by any means...it’s what has really cheapened the story for cheap profits in many ways.

But you cannot expect people to read books to explain what happened after Jedi. That’s what a world wide fanbase wanted to know for over 3 decades. And it’s why the farce awakens fell flat and is DULL as heck if you try to watch it now.

Star Wars has a complete arc on the big screen...there was enough explanation (mostly by Guinness) in 4 and resolution (hamill) in 6 to make it so it required 6 hours to watch it...not decades of chasing mixed media scratching your head.

That was what worked and it’s pretty simple.

I’ll go one better: the “narrative” after 1 and 2...which were god awful...was in a better spot going into the last movie than they are going into 9.

There’s just no way to process that...at least for me. They spent too much time killing classic characters (badly) and futzing with cgi dead people.

That being said...I hope something enjoyable is coming...we all kind of “need” it.

If they are making clone plot lines and flipping the characters sides at the very end...Star Wars is truly over.

It’s an adventure/hero tale...that’s like NOT how you go out.

It'll definitely reverse a lot of the mockery he's gotten over the years as being the wuss of the bunch, always wanting to run from a fight.

I can see it now. The nominees for most nightmare-inducing movie character of 2019 are:

Pennywise the dancing clown.
Any of the cult members from Midsommar.
And finally...
...C3PO, the Droid once known for always saying "We're doomed."
:hilarious:

Kids would be lost. And lets face it, if you are wanting merchandise to sell, you aren't turning your one hero into a clone. People are thinking WAY too much about these theories. I completely agree with Adam that Rey is in disguise there. It's going to be Rey building up the light side forces and Ren building the dark side, and it ending in Rey defeating the dark side. There aren't going to be crazy plot twists because quite frankly, they need kids invested in the movies for the land, and kids don't want twists like adults do.

omg Pennywise... I actually had trouble going down into the basement after watching that movie.

Whether C3PO's evil or just got an upgrade, I'm happy to see the character doing more than just having a small cameo. Star Wars droids were the things that got me hooked into the franchise when I was a little kid. I'd love to see them be more than background props. They did a good job making BB-8 a fun character, but I also want to see R2D2 and C3PO joining in on the action! Speaking of R2... Where is he? Are they saving a big surprise for that character? R2D2 where are you??

And I just realized that even though it's just a theory, it could totally be possible for Palpatine to posses C3PO. Jedi masters dissolve after finishing their training and dying in peace, but a Sith can die in 3 ways:

1. Haunt the area where they died
2. Possess another person
3. Curse an object

Vader had a mask that had the soul of another Sith, and he tried using that to bring back Padme in his tower on Mustafar, so I guess this kind of thing is canon now. It'd be interesting to see them try and adapt this idea in the next movie.

Yes, I think that's true. The simpler things are, the better. They have to make the movies easy to understand for the majority since not everyone watches the TV shows or reads the comics, so those people wouldn't have that extra background info. I just enjoy reading about the creative new things that fans can come up with! It's fun seeing people's imagination go wild sometimes.

And that’s the problem with this “trilogy”...

Based on what’s happened, they need to go simple...but nothing has really happened other than one death scene demanded by the actor and one death scene insisted against the wishes of the actor.

It is what it is.

Ya, I feel like this trilogy is about the aftermath of whatever went on during the decades after ep6. That's why I'm really excited to see The Mandalorian show since it takes place in that time frame, and I think there's a lot of interesting political and behind the scenes drama during those years that lead up to the crisis going on now in the new movies. I hope the show is a success and makes Lucasfilm want to make more shows or prequel movies explaining what happened before ep7.

I listened to the RFR podcasts today...honestly something I’d never do as I don’t usually consume podcasts...and there were things they dug up that I hadn’t heard before -
Particularly from Michael arndt and hamill to the Chinese media service - that I hope cannot be true.

If they are...then this whole Disney charade has been IP sabotage.

@tk924...have you ever heard this kinda stuff?

Mainly the “directives” about story focus imposed on abrams and dictated by Kathy’s boyfriend?

There was also some interesting Lucas stuff.

I kinda felt this stuff was out there and my subconscious wouldn’t let me look. But the way I see it...this next couple of months is kinda the last stand for any redemption in a long history of Hollywood mistakes and hubris.

Sorry mike...I typed a long description and either inadvertently deleted it or triggered it unintentionally to be autoedited.

I’ll give the reasons tomorrow. It was basically Arndt telling the screenwriters guild website that Kennedy interfered with abrams and allowed Johnson to jack both movies due to corporate directives...and Hamill talking about changes that didn’t get much western pub that also supported the same general thought pattern.
