*enters thread hyper as heck from the new footage*

*sees the same ol’ Star Wars fans being absolute grumps about everything*

*leaves the thread where no light touches any corner and all happiness no longer exists*
Well then....they shouldn't have hired Ryan Johnson and made TLJ. That's on Disney.
I really enjoyed TFA, Rouge One, A New Hope, Empire, Return of the Jedi, Revenge of the Sith.
Sorry that I find TLJ unwatchable.

In the great words of Glinda the good witch to the Wicked Witch in the musical Wicked:

“They’re just shoes, let it go.”

“Other than that...how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?”

Look...I get the boredom/fatigue with the angst...I wish I didn’t have it...

But I don’t think it’s reasonable to “put the blinders” on with how Disney handles Star Wars. There’s too much there to look at. This is on the heels of what George managed to burn (like apparently the original cuts of the movies where Han shot first)...and the obvious dangers there.

It’s been like skipping through a field without reading the neon “beware!: mines” sign over the gate to it.

It is...
And the evidence mounts...and the “descent” is becoming reality...and the defenders fade away day by day.

Ah, Star Wars "Fans."
They hated Return of the Jedi because it was "Just a bunch of Muppets and Teddy Bears."
Just the reveal of The Phantom Menace's title sent them in an uproar- "Should have been Balance of the Force!"
Then the film was despised by "Fans." Star Wars was ruined and George Lucas was the ruiner. There was a call for Peter Jackson to literally pull the prequels from Lucas's hands. (yes, the same Peter Jackson fans would then turn on over the Hobbit.)
Remember when Revenge of the Sith came out the same summer as Serenity and we had shirts proclaiming "Joss Whedon is my master now?" (The same Joss Whedon fans would turn on and call a hacky quip-meister)
Remember Jar-Jar Abrams?
Remember wanting Rian Johnson to take over when Trevorrow was taken off?
Remember wanting George Lucas back?

As I said upthread...it was on gma this morning.

Rey with maul overlay and “fleets”...which of course both numbnuts proceeded to destroy in 7 and 8 for NO REASON WHATSOEVER.

Spoiler alert!!

Yep...all of that has happened.

The problem is a shockingly high number of those opinions make sense...and Therein lies the problem

I’m sure college fans didn’t like the muppets in ROTJ.
I can assure you, 5th-6th graders thought it was the greatest movie of that summer.
I remember telling my Mom it was the best of the series when we left the theater.
She took the class to the film after school was out for the summer.

Ok I can't stop watching that sizzle reel, I may have seen it 100 + times now inc all the various reactions to it as well, it maybe short but it has me hyped for the final movie in the saga and I WILL be there for the midnight showing like I have been for all the others in the new Trilogy.

That’s the thing about these movies. Everyone has their personal opinions about them and I think all opinions are valid. And it’s super cool the whole class got to go see it.

I’ve always felt that RotJ was the weakest of the OT movies. To some people, it’s their favorite. That’s great! It’s just a matter of personal opinion. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of them, but I prefer some to others. Some parts of individual movies annoy the heck out of me (looking at you Binks), but I can still enjoy the movie as a whole. That’s just me. YMMV

The hate for Jedi is revisionist...90% (ok I cant gauge that but it’s high) of people enjoyed it and bought the merch. It became “cheeky” much later to follow the group think on it.

That is not - my belief - the case with the last Johnson. It was a mess...dedicated Star Wars fans are much more split - my belief.

But what about cinescore? Rotten tomatoes? Easily influenced by the casual...and that’s not why Star Wars is what it is/was. It is not about the casuals...and least not fully about it on a level few popular movies have experienced.

People that “liked” it probably forget it by breakfast...and are watching “Hobbes and dobbs” or whatever stupidity that is right now

The thing about Star Wars is so many people liked it a lot and continued to revere it worldwide on a scale not really seen at that time.

Is it sustainable? Likely never was....but Neither George not Iger bothered to do the couple of days of research needed to identify the difference.

Star Wars is the first Modern franchise and the biggest thing in the nato countries since the Berlin Wall....that recognition is the fundamentals behind continuing it.

As a comparison...not a lot of people liked Star Trek...so paramount had to approach it a little differently...building it into a character driven story by the 80s and 90s
