i didn't expect to see much changed in WDW's Star Tours exterior...but I sure hope to see SOME kind of addition or upgrade to the exterior.

From what I understand we aren't getting much - if anything at all.

Tatooine Traders is relatively new anyway, and to be honest I like the exterior with the ROTJ feel. Although I do wish they'd do away with the "Soundstage" stuff in between...

Good news for the purists out there. The Starspeeder when you first enter the (main) interior portion of both Anaheim's and Orlando's queue will still be present. Updated or downgraded I suppose to match the new/old model 1000.

So is noone else worried/suspecting that this will suck cos it will be very 'prequel-ish'? Also it will be all CGI of course and fake looking compared to the previous movie made with miniatures?

I don't think that the new Star Tours will be prequel-ish as it will be more overall Star Wars-ish. Its going to go to worlds that were featured in all the films, as it should, and will look at it as one big universe. Which again, as it should.

Special effects techniques don't matter. I know there will be plenty of CGI, what scifi movies don't these days?

What a lot of people don't know about the prequels is that there was actually a lot of models and minatures used. They were combined with computer animation but people think that everything was animated. There were a lot of times where they built model sets and greenscreened the actors into them.

I agree, I think it will be a nice balance.

They seem to be correcting many of the mistakes the original ride had, as well. While Star Tours is a classic (and I hope they somehow have the ability to play the old film for nostalgia sake in the new ride - perhaps during Star Wars weekends some year as a special event), it was very light on Star Wars characters and themes. This new one, with interactions with so many famous characters and locations, seems to be a great, fresh step I am very much looking forward to.

As for Princess Leia appearing in the show, why couldn't Disney just take existing footage of Carrie Fisher's portrayal in the original films and "tweak" the images to make them appear as if they're saying and doing something new? Like the Imagineers did with Rod Serling's image in The Tower of Terror?

It's *possible* but not very probable.

Carrie Fisher's voice has certainly changed, but she *can* still do a very close approximation of the voice (I have heard her do it in-person recently), and with a little digital trickery it could be pulled off. (Though I follow her interviews/etc. quite closely - and she has done many lately - and she has made no mention of any participation, or the project in general.)

However, the ride would have to take place very close to the end of the "between the two trilogies" time period because otherwise Leia would be too old in existing footage.

My guess is we will see a child-version of Leia (say as an 8 or 10 year-old) as a cameo appearance. Originally I hoped CF's daughter Billie might be used, but she is about the same age as CF was when making Star Wars, so again she may be too old.

I would love, LOVE if Carrie Fisher somehow appeared in the ride, but I don't have my hopes up on that one.

Agreed. After all, it is taking place in between the two trilogies so we should see equal representation of both.

Uhh.. You say equal representation of both like that's a good thing. Any prequel stuff at all is too much prequel stuff.

If you talk to 'the kids' you'll be very surprised to learn that there are many of them who like the prequel trilogy more. I've even heard some say that the originals should be remade. Obviously you don't like the prequels since you just joined a Disney world message board in order to just complain about them but to each their own I suppose. Moving on...

As far as Leia goes, yeah for the time the ride is supposed to take place in, she will have to be seen younger than she was in the original film. I'm guessing around 13-ish, maybe?

That wasn't Serling. They hired a very closely resembling look alike and had someone else contribute the voice.

How awesome would it be at the end of the ride the front of of the ship opened (just slightly) to reveal that you were inside an Imperial ship and either an animatronic Vader or Stormtrooper (varies per speeder) is there to greet you.
