Staggs says changes to Fantasyland...

Why thank you :).

But back to the FLE I said it before and I'm saying it again.

ALICE IS COMING. I feel it lol
If they are looking to change out something in the FLE such that it will be more boy-acceptable, how would Alice in Wonderland do that? There must be something in the works involving a male protagonist...(for the same reason Rapunzel's marketing was taken off of the female lead and focused more toward the interplay b/t the male and female leads).

As a side note, I have no insider sources but logic would suggest switching out one or more princesses for Alice wouldn't really fix the girl-focus of the FLE.

Umm....Errr....Whoa.

Noooooooooooooo not like that lol.

I mean an Alice dark ride. It fits every hint. A franchise in MK (mad tea party), and Alice is just received a new movie. I know it will most likely be based off of the cartoon.

But think about it. Why else would the tea party close down for a refurb when FL is already being expanded? Duh so it can go with the theme of the new ride!!!

I still wanted something thrilling but a ride is sure better than an m&g.

Agreed. I have no idea how AiW is somehow more cross gender friendly even when considering the overall freakishness of that world.

I don't know. My son thought "new Alice" was pretty darn cool. I mean, there's jabberwocky and bandersnatch goodness all over it!

I can't possibly see them basing it on Alice's return to Wonderland though.

And for the whole boy oriented alice thing...Off with their heads is all they'll need to hear. It worked for me the first time I went to DL when i was 6:shrug:

Think about it, what would a young boy really want to do in Fantasyland? Villian's have been ruled out so there's nothing really left IMO. The mattehorn isn't coming at all. So unless it's the mine coaster I feel that Alice would be coming.

I feel sorry for the young boys but think about it. A ride will appeal to a boy or girl because well it's a ride. All kids love rides.

Lol what do you think is most likely?
There are many other franchises that are more boy-friendly and under-utilized. Like Aladdin or the Lion King. If you expand and think about all of the movies showcased in PhilharMagic, there are many options for expansion of franchises currently visited in Fantasyland.

I honestly haven't got a clue at this point. At one point, I was betting on Toon Town sticking around and getting a face lift. But I think that's been largely discredited. The Mine Car seems reasonable, but that's been discredited too. Same with Neverland.

I really don't even have a guess any more. So the AiW theory is as good as any in my book.

I still don't understand the obsession with Matterhorn and never will. First, by current standards that ride is cheesy as hell. Second, we already have a modern version of it called Expedition Everest. So please, never mention the Matterhorn again.

I had thought Peter Pan/Neverland could be a possibility given that it's mildly more boy-centric than the other usual suspect franchises. But the lead character is pretty much androgynous and is often played by females. Weird. Also, the only other heavily boy-centric aspects to it are Pirates (which are already firmly established in Adventureland) and Indians, which I'm going to assume are a non-starter due to PC concerns.

The obvious solution, to me, would be some sort of Prince Phillip escape/defeats Maleficent mashup ride but that would probably only truly work as a major, headliner attraction and is probably a bit too old to really grip the modern market.

We'll probably end up with some Pooh stupidity which only really appeals to pre-verbal toddlers.

I like the idea of the Lion King having something other than a live-action show. Sounds cool!

To me, LK doesn't belong in FL. Ideally, a LK attraction should go to AK. If it had to go in MK, I'd rather see it in AL.

I would like to see Aladdin better represented though...

Having said that, I don't think that broadening the appeal beyond the princess crowd necessarly needs a male protagonist needs to be added to FL.

Jt,do you have some personal vendetta against Lee? Every thing he says, you say he's wrong. Not even in a respectable way. You claim to know, yet bring no information to the table, other than saying everyone else is wrong. Please, give us something like Lee or juan. I don't even know why you are still here.

Now,back on topic. This was a good thread,so back to the FL expansion. I think if you go through Lee and juan's posts in this thread, you'll be able to piece something together and get a bit of an idea of what is coming. I know I have. Wether or not I'm right...well,that we will see in a month or so,unless more can be shared here.

But that doesn't mean they fit the theming. Not saying your wrong, of course. At this point who knows what it is. But Aladdin and the Lion King seem to dwell too far from FL. I mean, Agrabbah or an African savanna in FL:shrug:

Ah, come on! If you have a guess, go on record! :)

Well here's what I think:
LK had it's turn in FL and it's gone now. It belongs in AK.
Aladdin belongs more in Adventureland or Morocco (even though it didn't take place there).
I would like to see an Aladdin dark ride in an AL expansion but since the carpets aren't moving I doubt they are coming.

And the other movies in Philhare are getting an attraction or already have an attraction so it either mine coaster or Alice in my book at this point.

And are you serious? The mattehorn cheesy? Wow, have you been on it.

How about everyone's favorite, The Black Cauldron??? hahaha...

My point is, there are many possible franchises. Fantasyland is Fantasyland. I never thought of it as having a specific time and place. Yes, it has a medieval overlay, but I've always felt anything goes in Fantasyland of all lands (look at DL's Fantasyland...it has a stronger medieval theme and yet much more varied rides).

As for boy-centric requiring a male protagonist, I thought that was Disney's lesson with The Princess and the Frog? Great movie that could have made more money if it wasn't so girl-focused (with "princess" in the title). So, Rapunzel changed to Tangled.

Whether or not it is fair, traditionally, girls don't care if a protagonist is male or female. Boys prefer male leads. That's one reason it is so important that Harry Potter was male and not female. Harriet Potter would not have been nearly as profitable.

Ok
1. If they build a Mattehorn it would be NEW it wouldn't be the same exact old ride!!!! Name one Disney ride that has been copied that offers the same experience besides movie based rides or simulators. NONE!!!
2. It would be better themed and will look like a 2011 version and not 1959.

Your suggesting they would take the mattehorn out of DL the exact same way and drop it in WDW. Wrong!!!

But once again I said it has been ruled out so I don't understand why you have to disrespect Walt's original thrill ride. Lol
