SSE has a sponsor

I never realized how much the actual sponshorships were. Does this mean Disney does not put that much capital into the rides themselves? (provided there is a sponsor).

For example, if Mission:Space cost ~$100m to build and their sponsorship was about that same amount of money, theoretically Disney would just be supplying the operational costs. If so that is an incredibly sweet deal.

Mission: Space cost over $220 million. Well over that according to someone in the know. HP's sponsorship was $100 million.

I know thats an example. Basically, the sponsorship will not cover the full cost of any pavilion or attractions. Especially since the sponsorships are $x over y years.

Im really suprised that Disney "the king of synergy" didnt jump on showcasing the new Disney Mobile line up in the post show area even if it was temporary until a sponsor came about.
OK FINE! Ill have to leave Coca-Cola and run Disneys Marketing/Synergy Division.;)

IBM sounds very unlikely.... they already have HP on M:S -- I don't see this working. They've tried doing dual sponsorship with competing companies before. It didn't work. So, because of that, we lost Mt. Fuji partially over a squabble with Fuji and Kodak.

Of course, during the first years, they did have similar companies doing sponsorship, but never to a noticeable level as this. And with SSE being such a focal point, it'll be like they're saying IBM is better than HP.

I really don't see HP letting them go with IBM and vice versa.

Does anybody else find it humorous for an attraction in a gigantic ball to be sponsered by siemens?

Good to hear rumors that SSE has a new sponsor. I hope that they, the Disney Company, and Mark Rucker and Brad Rex (VP of Epcot) truly understand the importance of the ride and the idea that communication is truly the beginning of understanding, and that Spaceship Earth was built as the symbol of the entire Epcot project.

We don't need a repeat of what happened at Imagination. It was a savage thrust into the Heart of Epcot when they got rid of that ride in 1998. I hope we have learned our lesson about cheapo glitzy attractions replacing genuine beloved educational ones.

if it was a computer co........... i would want Apple over IBM, their creativity blows IBM and Microsoft away and the post show (even though they might not have control) would really be neat.

Apple:brick:

SSE symbolizes comunication throught time, Apple symbolizes trendy bandwagon marketing and substandard products. Just my opinion.

Since when is the iPod considered "substandard"? I think iPod set the standard...

Thats not an opinion, those are facts.

On that note, IBM won't be the sponsor, they don't actually market to consumers anymore (the IBM computer line is just a brand that was purchased by a Chinese company named Lenovo).

The ipod IS substandard. Crappy sound quality, non-innovative, cheap parts, not to mention the battery longevity issues and scratch issues. It is only "the" portable device because of slick marketing and promotion.

Also, I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet, but if this sponsorship is in fact a done deal, it would probably mean that there is a full refurb of SSE on the way, something that would close it for a while to open it during Epcots 25th. Could that be what Corrus was referring to in the brother bear thread?

Slick is better than unfair. In the iPod ads I've seen, Apple hasn't put the other portable music devices in a bad light. There aren't any "Pepsi Challenge" type ads that blatantly state that one product is better than the other. There aren't people on the streets with concealed iPods, pitting them against another portable music device to "prove" which is better.

I mean, if their ads sell products and people are happy with them...

:)

It certainly is "unexpected" to a certain degree. Though, it's not in World Showcase (though that could have been a red herring).

The Ipod is one of the most hyped up pieces of junk I have ever seen.

1. Stupid design - Scratches far to easily, and it is fingerprint city on that mirror finished rear.

2. White headphones/cables - Makes you a target for muggers.

3. Poor battery performance - WHY can't they make provision for a user replaceble battery?

and on......

It is a case of style over substance.

I will stick with my Sony NW-E99 thanks.. 70 HOURS playback on one REPLACEABLE AAA battery.

Rant over!!

So, finally some more officially news on a sponsor, very nice to hear. And i really hope this means a good thorough rehab (emphasis on rehab). A little change to the ending, and oooh, a new post show. I can't wait to see it when it's 'responsorfied.'

-Not giving an opinion on which is better.-
That is some amazing battery life on that mp3 player, but for me, 1GB (is that right?) doesn't hold 1/6 of my music. *shrugs*

How many songs does it hold? Cause the best part of an i-pod is that you can carry your complete music collection with you where ever you go.

And if white headphones pose that much of a problem...buy black ones lol
