Spring has Sprung with Magic Friends

Jenny, I totally agree. I too read the article and felt that she didn't give the place a fair shake, and it appeared she only went to one of the parks. She might have liked something at one of the other ones better. But, as we know, Disney isn't for everyone. It's just a shame she didn't get it and then, it seems let the not getting it bleed out to her children.

When WHF and I were planning out our trip for this year, we considered a cruise, an all inclusive option, and various other things and yet, we kept coming back to Disney World b/c it ended up, economically being cheaper and we'd have more to do.

However, we decided on the Cali option instead b/c it was something different.

It reminds me of that one Universal Studios commercial I saw a long time ago, where this little snot around Abby's age was saying, 'If I see another princess, I think I'm going to puke' :hammer::hammer:
I guess it's just a pet peeve of mine, but it really bugs me when we can't, as a society, let imagination and stories that have happy endings, be held up as something GOOD. Instead it's mocked or dismissed.

BTW, Nibbs, interesting new look in the Bar-room thread. :lookaroun

I hear you. What is wrong with princesses and happy endings? Life isn't all dark pits of doom.

Exactly. It's like there's a certain age where people just shut off their imaginations and they can't suspend their disbelief anymore. I personally think they just can't get in touch with their inner-child. Or maybe they don't want to. They like being adult-y and can't grasp how if you just let go a little, maybe you might have some fun and enjoy yourself.

And thanks.

And if that's what they choose, so be it. They're adults. But they pass it on to their kids, that's what bugs me. They teach that cynicism - why do kids have to grow up so quickly?

Ah well, can't solve society's issues...just venting for a moment.
Abby is going roller skating tonight with a friend. This is her closest friend at school, and she seems like a very nice girl.

Aw, how fun. I love going roller skating. I hope Abby and her friend have fun. :D

Yay for roller skates! I stink at that. Always fell on my butt or hung onto the wall.

That is so funny! We just watched 'Finding Nemo' this afternoon, where the fish says that.

I love that movie, but not as much as MTR. :animwink:

How do you live?

Very carefully.

I loved it as a kid. Abby's more into the company than the skating though.

 It is great, because you get to talk with your friends, listen to great music, and laugh when someone falls down. :D I am always falling down or tripping over people.

I was just reading a couple of threads here today, where articles were linked to of the author's just 'hating Disney', and all the criticism they were receiving for their attitude. Which made me curious, so I went to the websites of a couple state amusement parks, King's Island and Cedar Point.

...Ahoy-hoy? :D

The Point's prices are steeper than most of the genre, fair enough; but it's likely the most popular destination in all of northern Ohio, and as far as out-of-staters are usually concerned, ALL of Ohio. Likely anyone within a 200 mile radius has heard of CP, but not so much of Kings Island. Now, a $13 difference between the two parks may seem like a lot, but Cedar Point is the company's flagship park, and usually people will pay whatever price the gates throw at 'em. Kings Island (and this is pure guesswork on my part) isn't as big a draw; maybe to locals, yes, but not many other tourists will make a vacation out of the Cincinnati area.

Disney, on the other hand, has clearly already made a name for itself, and people almost certainly WILL pay through the nose and, as well we all know, will make a full-fledged experience out of it all. Disney almost seems to feed purely off of word-of-mouth these days.

Picture a brand-name product that everyone trusts, compared to a local product that's substantially cheaper, but slightly more questionable quality. Now, without commenting on whoever happens to read this and their grocery choices , I'd wager most people would choose the tried and true label.

Unless they announce a recall, in which case we're all screwed and my bored-on-a-Friday-afternoon analogy is rendered meaningless. :lookaroun

Somehow, I knew you'd come in talking about CP. I agree there are differences - CP is seasonal, Disney is year round. CP has a huge reputation for being the coaster capital of the midwest. Which is great if you're a coaster person. We aren't - we would head more toward the kiddy areas, and CP has always struck me as geared more toward older kids, than the younger ones. King's Island is more of an Ohio attraction, true, but the Nickelodeon fans love the kids' area of that park. So if we have to pick it will be King's Island.
It's just...different parks for different people, different interests, y'know? I just find it a shame, in the articles I read today, that people can't just say, 'Disney isn't for me'. They have to mock it, scoff at pixie dust and dreams come true and all that. So maybe in the real world that doesn't apply. But when I go to Florida I am doing my best to shut the real world out. There I believe in pixie dust and dreams coming true. Especially in the eyes of my kids.
