SPOILERS: The Mandalorian Season 2 Discussion

That amazing resume was always as a distant #2 or a #3...but I’m sure that’s a “technicality”
It’s just a shame that it appears to be a one way conversatio, think how good it might have been if Dave Filoni was able to teach RJ and JJ about how to make good Star Wars

Another fantastic stand alone episode! Did it move story along? Maybe not, but what a fun watch!

Enjoy the journey.
Agreed. I'd say that if they would have ended it with the Mandalorian delivering the passenger, they could have moved the story along a bit. I'm sure that is how the next episode will start, but it just ended a bit abruptly in my opinion. Aside from that, it was a lot of fun. Just like I figured, the episode was shorte, 35ish min before credits.

I was shocked to read how many people thought this was "the worst episode", calling it useless filler. I don't get it. There have been serial tv shows (with an overall plotline) in the past, but every episode was a different adventure that didn't always directly relate to the main plotline.

And I liked how we could see that the Child definitely has a mischievous/rebellious side to him, which will probably come into play later.

Also, apparently Amy Sedaris's character is quite polarizing. I think she's a fun side character for the show.

I think some people are way over-excited for Ahsoka to appear and they want to rush the plot.

Yes, but in those days, producers were pumping out 26 episodes a year. We're already 1/4 of the season down.

I think if the episode would have had a real conclusion, the filler comments might be different. If the episode ends with the mando talking to the frogs husband and we got some new information about where the Mandalorians are. And what he needed to do next. It would have moved things along a bit and concluded that episodes arc.

I guess I still don't get the rush. They are already starting season 3, correct? There might not even be closure to this plotline by the end of this season.

And I'm sure some characters that will be introduced (re-introduced) will get their own spin-off at some point.

To each her own, I am really enjoying this season once again.

From previews seen (not by me) Frog lady is in upcoming episodes. I think (obviously) her and the eggs are much more important to the story than first glance.

You can tolerate an awful episode of Babylon 5 or Star Trek...but this isn’t 1996

The problem is stream shows are NOTORIOUS for running into a dead end and/or being cancelled 2 or 3 years in. There aren’t many exceptions

See that's the difference. I didn't think the episode was awful, I quite liked it. :)
To be fair...I haven’t watched it yet...but I got some “feedback”.

I’ll probably like it more cause I have a bigger depth of Star Wars lore knowledge...so I’ll be ok. But I do worry that they’re missing an opportunity if they do the standard Hollywood mistake of “re-invention”

If I was Iger...i’d March in to LFL and spray paint “1980” on the wall. Get there...however you have to do it.

True, but on established streamers that have too much content.

Early days Netflix was very adverse to cancelling anything. House of Cards would not have lasted nearly as long. I see the creators being far more eager to conclude Mandalorian than the DIS will be, simply because it's the first (and really only) major tentpole of the service so far.

Star Wars Series 4 or 5, Marvel Series 15 and 16 will be much different stories of course. Those will be the one and two seasons and early cancellation fodder.

Thank you sir. You were an inspiration.

I’m more worried that corporate it gonna try to kill the golden goose with interference like they did with the sequels on mandalorian more than I’m worried the story will hit the wall...

Both are a concern
Hopefully Happy has enough clout to keep the ship steering straight.

I actually like stand alone episodes that "don't advance the plot" (though I'm not sure I'd describe this episode that way). I don't know when in time every show had to get so serialized and people stopped being able to enjoy a TV episode that was simply fun on its own. To me it is the format's detriment.

This wasn't my favorite episode but it was fun enough and the light horror vibe was a nice change of pace.

I think something to consider is that W. Earl Brown (who was the bartender in the first episode), revealed that his day of filming was the day before the first episode aired last year. So Season 2 Episode 1 would have been written/filmed before they had large audience feedback. By making this a "filler episode" they gave themselves time that if the debut of the series didn't work with audiences, they had time before filming the 3rd episode to change stuff. Hopefully, the reception of the first episode gave Favreau / Filoni the freedom to continue telling the story THEY wanted to tell, without too many memos from on high.

My concern with this episode - which I generally enjoyed - is that what was a cute baby/toddler move in the first season (putting everything in their mouth and eating funny things) is now turning the Child into a potentially bratty and/or gluttonous kid as they are clearly 'aging' him* up by giving him more autonomy and moving him out of the cradle. It was cute before, but now the 'I'm eating everything even when you tell me no' shtick is getting less charming as time goes on and the kid grows older. Especially with the extra ick factor of he's eating the woman's (potential) offspring even when she's saving his life.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the twist is that the ones he "ate" are actually incubating in his tummy or something and he's saving them when the rest are killed in some upcoming adventure. But if not, I go with brat and ick.

*I'm using 'him' here temporarily but I'm fully expecting The Child to turn out to be a girl. Because 2020.

I'll agree with that. It didn’t bother me in this episode. But you're right, we have now seen it in a few episodes. So hopefully it isn't a gag they completely overplay. It hasn't over stayed its welcome yet, but I can see how some might think it's getting old.

Everybody else: this was a fun episode.

Me: this episode featured characters being chased by scary and realistic giant spiders and no sane person could have enjoyed that.

In other news, my life size Baby Yoda arrived:

I did not love the big spiders. But after LOTR and Harry Potter, I guess everyone needs their take on it. But these were particularly fast and freaky, I'll give you that.

That said, I still found the Baby eating the eggs that are the only hope for this poor lizard lady's race's future far more upsetting. And not funny.
