Chapter 13 is a fantastic episode just the right balance between fan service and keeping the story accessible for more casual viewers. The opening scene is great and the episode has some good easter eggs for fans of the animated shows as you’d expect from a dave filoni written chapter

I agree...but I actually think it was huge into fan service.

This show is a “test balloon” in so many ways...Disney is using it as an experiment in probing the fan base. Very much like rogue one.

the thing i liked about this episode was its atmosphere- very samurai like rather than the more western inspired ones. At times it almost looked like a star wars version of yojimbo like when ashoka walked down the street or the mist blowing across the shots

What are the odds that the star wars rebels gang (Ezra, Sabine) etc show up by the end of the season, perhaps to setup the rebels sequel?

the first two seasons of that show were pretty good...the last two were not. Don’t think Ezra as an adult is a huge winning character here.

But...they telegraphed the appearance of another Jedi...it’s going to happen. That leaves very few possibilities beyond a new character.

I count 3 and the other two are impractical other than Ezra

Has anyone been keeping a list of the new food / snacks so that we can check them off when they are added to Galaxy's Edge. Like, when do we get blue cookies?
Ask and ye shall receive:

Best ep of the season so far in my opinion and one of the best of the series. I also liked the Asian influence meets spaghetti western style of it with a new style of planet - that empty swampy woods in fog look.

I got chills when Ahsoka was testing the baby and talked about the Force. Beautiful.

As for the fan service...

I know very little about Clone Wars and Rebels. I think I'd probably really enjoy them if I sat down and watched them but the animation style always put me off.

But I have a general sense of what's going on and don't feel lost even though I know I'm missing Easter Eggs and detail.

As for the controversial Ahsoka casting...

I love Rosario as an actress. I thought she was one of the best parts and most compelling characters of the Netflix Marvel shows. I enjoyed watching her learn to fight and do some action stuff for them.

I only know Ashley for two things - one: Her Universe - the merch line she conceived and created from scratch (and if you haven't read her fantastic inspirational bio, "It's Your Universe", you should - it's a quick but tremendous read about determination and vision and success) - and two: her passion for her character.

I don't know Ahsoka as a character, but I know she's one of the most beloved and respected in the Star Wars universe. And I expect I would like her a lot. And I expect I would enjoy hearing Ashley voice her a lot because Ashley clearly loves her.

Rosario may be the better actress. She may be the better look even for the character if they wanted her to be taller and imposing and stand face to... helmet... with Mando. She may be the easier sell if they're trying to create a spinoff. But whether it's for passion, for some sense of entitlement, or simply because for whatever reason, for me, Rosario didn't quite *fit* who I thought this character would be - either in physicality or personality - again, not ACTUALLY knowing who Ahsoka truly is -

I think I would have enjoyed Ashley more.

Just my hunch and I can't justify why.

Katee was perfect in a character she inhabited and was a part of bringing to life. I am sorry Ashley did not get the opportunity to do the same. Even if for whatever reason TPTB felt Rosario was the better choice.

It's weird, but it was something I was aware of while watching the episode.

I was a little disappointed we didn't see Captain Rex but there's still time before the end of the season. I could see Rex, Ezra and Sabine showing up in the finale. Would be cool to see Zeb as well not sure how you do that in live action tho.

If the goal was to recreate/focus entirely on a couple of completed cartoon shows...but I’m not sure why they would do that by choice??

I’m gonna agree with you/supplement with my take -

I was a fan of Dawson in the role...I don’t think any Star Wars role is “reserved” for a particular actor at this point. Such is the state of the franchise. It’s NOT been a good 8 years...they need to think what and how long they want out of this thing? All options are on the table.

But I didn’t 100% love the portrayal. It wasn’t “bad”...just not perfect. One thing - not Dawson related - is the character wasn’t fast enough to fit the established portrayal on the cartoons.

But as far as the acting...remember that the character is now about 35-40 ish years after her intro...and about 8 ish from the reprisal in Rebels.

She’ll be back anyway...so I want to see how it plays.

The thrawn mention is more significant. Disney made a big stink about not using EU...but placing thrawn after ROJ puts Mando now smack dab on a collision course with the Timothy zahn book time period. Which was of course the start of the EU.
Interesting

Holy sheeet!

This series makes me cry... because can you imagine what the sequels could have been if jon and dave did them? I mean... its old hat by now but holy crap they keep raising the bar. How can any exec sit back, watch these shows... and not be like “ok, how do we go back and fix what we screwed up so badly”. Seriously... reboot the sequels and get jon f and lucas in a retreat to make new stories... STAT

It’s filoni and favreau trying to right wrongs...it’s indisputable at this point. And it’s finally the way to make things better.

But you know...there are some that won’t even acknowledge the errors...all evidence to the contrary 😎

Maybe Dave wants a Trilogy too?

So far this feels like the next chapter in the animated series. Maybe there is an Ahsoka show in the pipeline, maybe some more plays out here. But IMO, the calls to the animated shows are more than just fan service. All those characters aren’t going to show up this year. This is on slow burn to build new characters and new worlds too. But I would be shocked if we never see Ezra and Sabine during the show’s run.

When Disney bought Lucasfilm they should have given Jon and Dave creative control over the future direction of Star Wars. The sequels really suffered from not having a single creative vision guiding them.

I sat through the entire episode thinking that the Magistrate's second hand man looked really familiar. Didn't realize it was Michael Biehn until I saw the credits, and I had even heard at one point he was going to be in this season.

I am starting to get a little sad if it really is Luke who picks up Grogu's signal. I dont want to end his time on the series knowing what his fate will be.

And as someone unfamiliar with Ahsoka, I thought Rosario did a fine job.
