I liked it…a lot. Much more so than the most recent Spider-Man.

But…but…they need to be careful to not go too long and too fringe in this multiverse stuff. You still need a mainstream audience for Disney and they’ll start cutting corners if they don’t get as much mainstream/crossover buzz.

But I did like it…best marvel movie in several years.

My audiences reaction:

Reed Richards: Everyone clapped and cheered

Prof Xavier: Polite golf clap

Captain Carter: One...ONE person clapped.
There was no clapping for me…I like that. Never a fan of movie clapping.

Krasinski was a nice twist…I love atwell, but any captain America characters I find a little bit sad now…

And frankly, I love Stewart…going on 40 years…but when I see him I can’t shake how AWFUL that Star Trek show is…

I‘m not happy that they took an Avenger and made her a villain (and as a woman, am particularly displeased that they took one of few female Avengers and made her the big bad). I don’t like the “turn on friends and family” plot device, it’s the reason that CA: Civil War was one and done for me. This is close to the same, although the last 15-20 minutes maybe saved it.

For me this was the best part. I like the twist of it…I like that the D+ series lead right to it…and they even redeemed her in the end.

The avengers are dead - in my opinion. They played it out the way they did. It worked. But they offed the two backbone characters and you can’t just slot anyone in to replace.

It’s still good movies and it’s been a great ride. All gravy now.

I was, I think, pleasantly surprised by the plot. The trailer led me to think that this would be a live action remake of the What If…Doctor Strange episode, because we saw so many of the creatures that he “absorbed” in that story.

So even though I was pleased that they didn’t go there exactly, I’m not sure what to make of this story. I was delighted to see Captain Carter, and totally dismayed by her end.

I’m still processing.
I'm pretty sure that Wanda is not gone. She'll return and be able to build upon her final redemption in this movie.

You may not have read the comics buy this was always the inevitable part of the story of Wanda/Scarlet Witch.

The hero turning against their friends and family is a very common trope of not only comics, but literature since the beginning of time. I mean go back and read the bible about what Judas did, its no different. Heck there is even a term for it, called the Face-Heel Turn, and opposite when a bad guy becomes a good guy, Heel-Face Turn. So while I get that you may not like its a common trope used in many stories told.

As for What If, they used plot points from that series in the movie, including the use of Captain Carter. So while not a direct live action remake, it uses a lot from the series.

Well buckle up, a lot more of Phase 4 and maybe even Phase 5 is going to be dealing with this "Multiverse Stuff". Marvel can't just remake the same old comic movie, it has to change it up or that is how you really lead to superhero fatigue.

Its already made $90M just on Thursday/Friday alone, and I suspect it'll surpass $200M for the entire weekend. So I think its more mainstream that you realize.

We’ll see how it goes.

They have to deal with over saturation and moving away from the traditional blockbuster Hollywood formula.

They also lost 3 of their biggest draw characters/actors as it stands

It will be fun to see what the WizArd Feige does.

I don't see over saturation being an issue as you're always going to have some fans that want to see everything and you have the casual fan that will skip things. And Marvel isn't the only studio having to deal with figuring out how to tackle the move away from the traditional model, so I don't see how that will be a huge issue, as the content is the draw not anything else.

If fans only went to see those 3 characters then the other MCU movies that didn't star those 3 characters would be losing money, and that just isn't the case. I'm pretty sure the general audience is smart enough to know at this point that the MCU isn't just 3 characters. Heck even some of the films where it did star at least 1 of the 3 didn't always get top box office, so that idea falls apart.

So yeah with 28 films under their belts over 14 years and making over $25B in box office so far I have trust in Feige. That is not to say there won't be individual misses, just that the overall MCU is fine and will continue chugging along for at least another 10 years.

Agatha was pretty evil... she killed Sparky!!

And her coven. And her mother. And didn't care about the people Wanda hexed except to use that against Wanda's supposed hero status.
And in the end, she would have killed Wanda for all her power.
So, yeah, pretty evil.

It took me a minute to piece things together, that it was Wanda that sent the monster to collect America's power. Strange should have been quite a bit more pointed that Wanda killed a version of himself.

But it's all the Darkhold's hold on Wanda. In the end, it became the true villain of the story... the source of the madness.

And it corrupted Agatha, and two of Strange's variants; and in Agents of Shield, it corrupted everyone who used it.

Saw it last night and honestly, I liked it.

It deviates from the typical MCU formula in terms of style, direction, cinematography, etc., but better than how Eternals tried. I liked the horror aspects of it too! The way Wanda was being framed in certain scenes...eerie!

That Illuminati segment was crazy....they really killed them off just like that.. I squealed when Captain Carter appeared, since I thought her appearance in What If? was all we were gonna get of that character. It was honestly a shocker Wanda just snapped and killed 'em like that. Imagine if she did that in Civil War and killed an Avenger! This movie probably has the goriest deaths in the MCU now imo.

I'm glad they didn't try to bring alternate Christine and Strange together in the end, because that'll be the typical happy ending. Instead, Strange (and likewise alt Christine) got closure and he finally got to say what he's been holding back.

Some questionable stuff like when Strange, America, and Christine were going to the book. They literally stood there and waited for Wanda to show up. I guess this is a callback to classic horror movies where the main characters just stand and wait for the villian to show up lol.

Loved the music fight scene between the two Strange's, although seems like a lot dislike this fight -- but it was unique!

Wanda definitely ain't dead, but what a performance from Olsen!

Overall, liked the movie. It was a more risky movie, which I appreciate. Not one boring moment and full of action & surprises!

As usual…you’re arguing with yourself. We don’t have to agree 100% and you’re not doing a great job of strong arming me into believing that comic books don’t require tact in movies. They do…they always have: they can flame out.

The MCU has done it the best. But shouting it will never change is pointless.

Just enjoy the ride. There’s zero logical jump to say that movies will lose money if they don’t have captain America. But they could bleed following as they make more and more movies that stray away from that avenger juju that made billions at the gate. Not without potential problems.

I love the way it was shot. Probably stood out more to me than any marvel movie since black panther…

Also saw it in 3D…which I typically hate…but it was pretty well done in that as well. Only a minor headache 😎

As usual you can't have a proper discussion where posters state their counter-points to your opinions. So there is no argument, its just a discussion on why I feel different than your opinion.

The MCU will change, that is certain, it has to. And I don't think anyone said it wasn't, at least I didn't. Now will that change result in fans not going with them, I don't think so but again that is my opinion. And I'm not sure where you got from my post that I indicated that "comic books don't require tact in movies".

As for enjoying the ride, I have been and will continue to do so as long as I'm alive and the MCU keeps pumping out content.

…it’s always too forceful. Just a tip. You dismiss everything without any real consideration. It shows.

Levity makes the days go by easier. What’s your vintage again? Like 1980-1992? Just a hunch.

Just because I post a counter-opinion to yours doesn't mean I didn't consider what you or any other posted. I consider everything, doesn't mean I agree with it, and as you posted I don't have to.

Just an FYI, do I think that on a long enough timeline that the MCU will "flame out" and stop making films, 100% yes not even doubting that. But do I think that is coming up soon, no I don't. And there is nothing wrong with that opinion, just as there is nothing wrong with the opinion that it'll "flame out" in the next 5 years. Both opinions are just as valid, doesn't mean either side has to agree on either point, again its all a discussion.

I find levity in lots of things, like this conversation. Since you don't know the actual emotion behind my posts, let me just say that I opening laugh at 99% of all posts on this site. If I didn't I wouldn't post here.

As for my "vintage", not that it matters, I'm from the 1970s, thank you very much.

I think Phase 4 only feels directionless because it's essentially the new Phase One. And instead of setting up one Avengers movie to tie up all of the varying threads, I believe we are instead going to get multiple team ups/branches of the MCU:

1. The Cosmic side of Marvel — Captain Marvel, Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy, Fantastic Four and Eternals

2. Young Avengers — Kate Bishop, Cassie Lang, Ms. Marvel, Wiccan (Billy), Speed (Tommy), Patriot, Hulkling and America Chavez.

3. Street-level Avengers — Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Echo, Hawkeye

4. Midnight Sons — Blade, Black Knight (Dane Whitman), Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, Werewolf By Night

5. Mutants/X-men

6. A New Avengers Team (Sam Wilson, Bucky, Shang-Chi, Ant-man and the Wasp, She-Hulk, New Black Panther, possibly Yelena)

7. Possibly a new Illuminati team led by Dr. Strange? This is where all of the multiverse hereos will come into play.

What did Spider-Man end up pulling?

Doc should hit that $800-$1 range, right?? Safe bet.

Let’s see if it crushes it second, third weekend like last Jedi, ehh? (Cheap shot…but couldn’t resist 🤭)
If the week to week drop off is 50%, as is typical. Then it's 450 + 450/2 + 450/4 +450/8.... which is 450 * (1 + 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/8...).

And as we all know, that's a converging infinite series which is equal to 450 * 2, which equals 900.

So, $900M is a safe bet.

Given the low Cinemascore, tho, history says there probably won't be a higher multiplier.

SP:NWH did $1.9B worldwide.
