SPLITSVILLE

None of this should be a shocker.... the formula here is pretty cookie cutter. Shocked that more of you haven't been to these kinds of places.

It's a gimmic to make a bar look nicer and have bowling as an activity to do casually so it's not just a bar. Hang out, overpay for food, bowl 0-1-2 games... and leave

The only thing shocking is that you're shocked that we don't get out that often.

yeah, but simply narrowing the experience down to that shows a fundamental lack of understanding for the entire splitsville ethos...
an ethos not easy to fully appreciate, granted, but easy to FEEL, man

>>(Editor’s note: This story has been updated to reflect a last-minute delay in the opening of Splitsville.)

The ever-evolving Downtown Disney shopping district made two big announcements this week.

Upscale bowling alley and restaurant, Splitsville Luxury Lanes, has delayed its opening planned for Monday, Jan. 29 in the old House of Blues space.

"We have a few more tests and adjustments to make before we open our doors in the Downtown Disney District,” a company spokeswoman said late Friday.

She did not provide a new opening date. Stay tuned.<<

Yeah the bowling/bar concept is certainly nothing new. City Walk Hollywood had Jillian's, a similar concept, for years and it just recently went under (replaced by Margaritaville.) Hollywood and Highland has Lucky Strike which is alright for what it was.

Has anyone been to Highland Park Bowl yet?? Been wanting to get there since it opened, but haven't had a chance yet. This place looks all kinds of awesome. If you want to see a bowling bar done right, check this out - https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/highland-park-bowl-los-angeles

In the OCR article, “Splitsville was designed as a restaurant first,”

You can eat in the indoor or outdoor restaurant without doing the bowling. This makes sense since doing the bowling is like an extra cover charge if you’re really there for the food. It’s like eating at the House of Blues restaurant without seeing the concert.

Bowling is pretty much arcade games that fallen out of popularity. I really don’t see the point of it. They should actually make them arcade games with flashing lights and sound when you make a strike. Or give away prizes with high scores.

Just near Disneyland alone:
Lucky Strike - Orange Outlets
Bowlmor Lanes - Garden Walk
Bowlmor Lanes - The District in Tustin

Two of those are very close to Disneyland...not sure what the big draw is for another one other than to keep folks in DTD versus straying across the street to Garden Walk.

Let's be real. Hardly anyone, at least in comparison to the daily flow of traffic going through DtD, is walking across the street to GardenWalk.

Well, based on the amount of very popular restaurants at AGW, Bubba Gump's, Roy's, McCormick and Schmidt's, P.F. Chang's, California Pizza Kitchen, The Cheesecake Factory, Fire + ICE, House of Blues, Grassland Market, Johnny Rockets, McFadden's and the restaurant in Bowlmor Lanes, more folks eat at AGW daily than the restaurants at DtD. Now, that is partially due to more tables being available at AGW.

But people are not giving AGW enough credit. I would say last week during NAMM, AGW was doing three times the business than DtD.

Maybe the sellers of AGW should rethink their decision to dump the place since the restaurants are all doing so well. :bored:

The reason the current owners are selling are many, including dealing with the city, and the retail section in the middle of the complex.

The restaurants got a good deal to lease in the complex, and reworked their leases years ago when the complex was structuring. Those leases are long term, and don't make the AGW owners that much money.

DtD isn't making much money either, and why Disney is once again trying to redo the area. Pushing out Retail for more restaurants. ESPN Zone is finally closing, to the delight of many in Disney Management, which was forced to run a break even restaurant, generating no profit.
