No (we) can’t. Those days are gone and that’s precisely why Splash is now closed. The new ride can’t escape nitpicking just because the IP is “better.”

Agree with the last part
And to think that Eisner wanted it based around the movie Splash..

Can't imagine what the ride would have been like with the plot..🤔

One thing that should make this at least a bit more comfortable for fans of the attraction is that Splash will go out as an incredibly well documented attraction. From 4k 360 POV videos to the soundtrack, it won't be lost to time like some older yesterland attractions.

I would have been happier if someone could have pulled a "Mesa Verde Times" on it.

My favorite memory of Splash was on one October night in 2014. I remember going to MNSSHP and the crowds were insanely low. I was able to ride Splash probably about 10 times in a row with absolutely no waits. It was just so much fun to be able to ride it so many times and appreciate it for what it is. I hope for the best with the retheme, but at least Tokyo for now is the one keeping it. I will be there in May so I'm pretty excited!

Splash to Tiana was announced during Covid, but I believe the Briar Patch did open up briefly and guests bought up the historic amount of merch to resell.

The site that should be named has an article about from July 2020.
I was there the day after the final merch drop, which was August 2020. I was so sad to miss it due to park reservations.

That's incorrect. He just wanted to change the name to "Splash Mountain" to promote the Splash film. While Imagineers doubtless thought that was screwy thinking, they leaned into it realizing it's a great name for the final drop.

So, it was still intended to have the Brer Rabbit story but, promote a movie with a different plot?

I don't get some of the more dramatic reactions to this ride "closure".

It will still be a well themed log ride. I'd wager many of the components will carry over.

Are people really that attached to Song of the South? It's a fairly dull movie that most people only vaguely remember.

It's a good ride, but this isn't like when Disney actually removes classic attractions in favor of something dramatically different or inferior.

I just wish the new ride had the word Mountain in it. I feel like I’m going to be calling Splash or Tiana’s Mountain anyways.

Well, the old ride was "racist or something" apparently which is why it's now closed. A point is being made if that is the reason it was closed, be careful of your new theme.
Disney could have saved themselves a lot of trouble by just stating the change was because they wanted to finally give Tiana her own ride and the theme of Splash fit the bayou theme, similar to how Maelstrom became Frozen.

By making it about racism they’ve ensured the new ride will be scrutinized for any hint of racism.

It was to keep the word Splash in People's minds. It was Eisner's little synergy joke. People make it a bigger deal than it was.

Don't forget, Eisner's son is the reason Splash mountain was pushed forward as a.major project before Star Tours even started.
