Also, watching a video of a ride is certainly not a suitable substitute for riding it in person. Useful for documentation, preservation and fun for reminiscing. But if it was an acceptable substitute, no one would ever need to pay to visit the parks.

Granted, but I'll also point out that the particularly good thing about this case is that the ride will continue to exist in some sort for the time being - in Tokyo. That at least is better than a situation like the Epcot classics, etc which were unique rides to that location.

While it's not the same, at least it is better then some other rides have like Horizons where the video tech wasn't quite there yet. Or even older like If You Had Wings.

I also imagine there's some good 360 recordings for VR headsets (I need to get a good one of those).
I've looked at a few of those 360 recordings. They have particular trouble recording anything other than well lit environments (though also have the opposite problem too of overly bright settings). The recordings i've seen for Splash are incredibly low res, absurdly grainy and dark/washed out. The quality is sort of comparable to traditional videos from 15+ year old camera tech.

They're useful for analyzing surrounding scenery and detail that traditional cameras might miss due to not pointing that direction, but the raw detail they can capture is still way behind regular cameras.

To an extent. And Tokyo's version is still kept in immaculate condition due to the corporation running that park still adhering to standards that have been gone from Disney for many decades now.

That said, no version of Splash is identical to another. And during the years in which WDW's was in good working condition (like the first decade of its life as well as the couple years after its 2013 refurb), I consider it to be the best version of them all. Particularly the exterior detail and choice of background scenery on the interior.

Well, that's unfortunate. I was hoping that if I ever invested in one of those Quest Pro VR headsets for $1,500 that I would have an amazing VR experience with these videos.

It was her first major project. Hopfully this redo is better since I was severely underwhelmed by MMRR
In fairness, many expect every new attraction that Disney produces to be "E-ticket." MMRR wasn't designed as E-ticket and that's why it is not an E-ticket. There are still fair criticisms of the attraction but through the lens of a D-ticket, I think it is fine.

I was wondering if the Briar Patch sign has been removed, and if it has closed, which I assume so. Curious they already opened a boutique themed for ride at DLR........guess that will be moving in to the retail space.....we used to love just sitting in there, and looking at the details.....;)
The Briar Patch didn't reopen from COVID, but the sign remains there today.

I just think there is a big difference between a story that tries to sugarcoat slavery as not all that bad vs a story that includes a location that used to have slavery. Tiana takes place in the 1920-30s. The simple backstory could be it WAS a former plantation with slavery, but now Tiana and others own the the co-op and are making something that used to be a negative to be a positive for their community.
Oh there's totally a difference between the two. I'm not really trying to equate them. And I think you offer a good perspective here. I think what I am really confused about is with a blank canvas why they would select this location in which the origins are so strongly associated. They can do anything they want and they are choosing this; especially after the reasons for the re-theme in the first place.

Nonetheless I am still excited for the attraction and I am optimistic it's getting the attention it requires.

You are equating them. You're discussing both situations equally.

For example "this location in which the origins are so strongly associated". It took like 30 pages in this thread just for people to realize there was a salt mine any where near the Bayou let alone anything you're proscribing to it.

Sometime you just have to get off the internet for a while.

My god can’t we do anything anymore without nit picking every single last detail to find something offensive about it ?

Splash just closed and already the new ride is racist or something ?

It feels like living in these times is beyond exhausting.
No (we) can’t. Those days are gone and that’s precisely why Splash is now closed. The new ride can’t escape nitpicking just because the IP is “better.”

Agree with the last part

Ok, hear me out. So we don't need to change the name of the ride, AGAIN in 20 years, just call it "Problematic Mountain"! That way when it's eventually rethemed again for being problematic and is no longer a money generator, they don't have to change the name!
They should just call it Splash Mtn.: Tiana’s Adventure. But, of course, then they couldn’t advertise TBA as a completely new ride.
