I think Runaway Railway is an alright ride but it is nowhere near as impressive to go through as Pirates of Splash. RotR is a glorified show with a pathetically bad dark ride segment and Navi River Journey is just a less fun Jungle Cruise.

That is a 100% justifiable way to feel. There isn't a real reason to think that current Disney will be able to meet, let alone surpass, the current ride. Like you said, it's not just a ride that a few love. It's an all time beloved attraction. One of the best ever created in my eyes, and to many others as well. Maybe if there was a track record of awesome from current Disney creative, people wouldn't be so upset.
Disney knows they need a home run to just be on the same level as classic Splash, and they would really need a grand slam to justify replacing it. Sadly everything we've seen indicates we might get a double or triple at best.

They don't need a grand slam to justify replacing it unfortunately.
Even if it turns out subpar, critics the media, etc. will gush about it because of why it was done.

Yeah but that doesn’t really work anymore. People gave wised up and go to other sources for reviews. Why do you think so many movies have flopped that the media is gushing over.

Hopefully the ride is awesome though, and we won’t have to complain.

Hey triples are exciting! I agree that we all want the retheme to be the best it could be. If you want the change or don't we're beyond that point, it's happening we all just have to hope for the best.

Why not extend the end date until Tron is completely open in April????

This so much better for crowd experience given the amount of people Splash is taking. What's another 2 months matter?

lol people here are going to complain no matter what. Remember Trauma, most of the folks here are diehard, "I remember Disney in it's glory days" long time visitors. NOTHING is going to be good as splash mountain in many peoples eyes so no way can this refurb win. at most if it's a good ride people are going to say how it's a decent ride but they didn't have to get rid of splash, that it should have been an add on.
For many it's associated with early memories of Disney as children and nostalgia. there is absolutely no way for this ride to win.

Disney needs the full 2 and a half years to retheme a ride that is already done.

Look how long it took to redo Maelstrom with the majority of it was the bones of what was there.

The disappointment and doubt are totally justified.

I doubt the exterior will take 2 years.

I give 'em two months. I'm still sour over the removal of the briar patch and replacing it with something that isn't threatening or iconic looking in the slightest. What even is that supposed to be? A patch of grass? Are we frog-sized in this ride? Why are Tiana and Naveen humans if that's the case?

Maybe they can have a bubble of swamp gas break the surface so the air cannon can be salvaged

Blink, blink. Breathe, breathe. Day in, day out.
Now you youngins know what it felt like when classics like 20k and horizons were run out of town. Let ‘em sit until they look like they NEED to be put out of their misery.

And before you know it… they are gone
That's how I felt about my childhood favorite Wonders of Life pavilion in it's entirety. That was my home. Left to rot.

Did we ever get details on why they chose WDW first?

DL is the far better thematic fit, and has the ancient animatronics. Why not leave your WDW options open just in case the response to the ride is way below expectations?

Too many E Tickets are down at DL for them to safely pull Splash and open MMRR without apocalyptic crowd issues

They want minimal pushback until this thing is done on both coasts. If they opened the DL version way ahead of the WDW version and it underperformed, you would see some pushback for people that were previously pro change. If it opens within a 6 month time frame in both coasts… there’s nothing they can do to change it at that point.

WDW’s version undoubtedly needs more work done to it to make the conversion, which is why it’s being closed first.
