News Splash Mountain retheme to Princess and the Frog - Tiana's Bayou Adventure

I expect the overlay to look a hell of a lot better at Disneyland than it will at WDW. I've already sort-of mapped out how it might look in my head so there's that:

• The beginning scene with Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear will be altered to include Tiana and the prince's boat over the shallow bit of water Br'er Bear currently hovers over. Goin' Down The Bayou will play here.
• Louis will likely be where Br'er Rabbit and Br'er Terrapin are now.
• The Laughin' Place will likely be replaced with the salt mine they discussed in several of those "research" videos. Dig A Little Deeper will play here.
• While I doubt Dr. Facilier will make an appearance here, the dumb redneck hunters from the film will probably make an appearance in some shape or form as the main antagonists of the ride.
• No idea what they plan on doing with Chickapin Hill besides potentially converting it into Mama Odie's home, but good luck making it look convincing.
• Showboat scene is def staying, if the boat's name isn't kept as Zip-A-Dee-Lady to pay homage to the original attraction I'll riot. Original song composed specifically for the ride will definitely appear here.

The thing is the DL version is already a bayou so the changes to show scenery won't be too dramatic. WDW's more closely resembles Song of the South's animated sequences and depending on how you look at it it's either a major advantage or a major detriment if you're looking to tear the entire thing down and make it look all bayou-y.

Leaving Facilier out would be a huge mistake.
The character is half the film, plus using him could add an element of impending doom - to be relieved after the drop.

While morbid, going up the lift hill and seeing the light at the top could be Raymond going to see Evangeline....

That's my take, or at least how I'd like to see the ride done.
Splash has a slow build to the danger, and I think if PatF builds up an impending danger element with an escape after the drop - the ride can work really well.
It would also make it less of a Princess ride if you will.

I certainly hope the Laughing Place has Facilier. I had heard of a story treatment that lacked Facilier altogether. Hope they didn’t go with that. He’s my favorite part of the movie.

Not necessarily a re-theme was needed, but they wanted to reduce maintenance costs.

And your mention of Aunt Jemima makes me think about the SNL skit with Dave Chappelle.

I still don't see how the re-theme will reduce maintenance costs. It will still be a log flume ride with many AAs and lighting effects. The only difference is theme.

I still don't see it. Different theme. Same ride mechanism. Re-themed AAs which could be in the same places for all we know. If you're thinking the AAs would be shiny and new, well, they could've done that with the current theme. So, it's still not a reason for the re-theme.

This I'm not sure about. I hope I'm wrong, but I see a few main show scenes with AAs then mostly screen effects. This is something I would love to be proven wrong on.

It’s weird isn’t it? Not many new villains become classics. Facilier definitely did. He’s got a lot of fans. They sure know that don’t they?

But the theme of the ride is the problem, according to many around here. (This change has nothing to do with the theme and everything to do with maintenance costs. They have shown several times that they are willing to spend on new instead of trying to maintain the existing. This will have minimal AAs, just watch.)

Just came back and the ride is in disarray with stuff not working but still a great fun ride. Shame they let it rot the way they did.

sure would love a villains ride... so many different concepts could be done.. but the original bald mountain concept either boat or roller coaster would have been amazing.

something like modern projection mapping and the modern AAs it could be amazing. See a few villains along your path, plotting against Disney world and bringing it into darkness as you go around a cave in total darkness until each scene. Their goal to bring disney world into darkness and sadness (which btw play the new disney dreamlight valley its amazing), end scene you see all the villains huddle around a pit and they all turn to look at you..... vehicle goes faster for your escape and then out of the mountain and you are safe.... or are you.....

Disney villains have been a staple of their image forever, and are often recognized as some of their best characters.
I really hope the current crop of imaginears hasn't forgotten this.

I think it’s going to be really pretty, seeing all of Mama Odie’s colorful bottles of light right before the drop. If the whole lift is themed like that, it could be a very special view of the magic kingdom.
