My stance is that it's a divisive issue, and there are very passionate people on both sides of it. I would never say that there's a majority leaning either way, seeing as how it's a metric near impossible to gather at this point. The user I quoted spoke as if everyone was in complete agreement that the retheme will be universally hated and "less than" the original Splash Mountain. All I said was that there are plenty of people actively looking forward to the retheme, and that's it's ridiculous to assume that the attraction will be worse when no visual changes have presented themselves yet.
As for my personal opinion? I fall into the "this is a welcomed update" camp. I worked at Pecos Bill's for 6 months, watching people enjoy this ride for up to 14 hours a day. I know it's a beloved ride, and for the longest time it was my favorite ride in all of Disney World as well. I'll never forget the first time I rode it, with my dad by my side. He was the only person willing to ride it with me when I was a kid, and hearing all of the screams coming from that drop will always bring me back to that day. But that doesn't change the fact that numerous co-cast mates of color actively spoke out about how they didn't love the racially driven stereotypes present in the ride, or in The Song of the South. There are more than 341 pages of this discussion detailing why people feel this way, so forgive me for not diving further into why people feel this way. This isn't a new thought process brought on by anything that's happened in the past 5 years, people have been feeling this way for a lot longer. I fully support Disney finally addressing this, and moving the conversation forward on both coasts.
I'll be visiting the World in October, and I'm overjoyed that I'll be able to take one last trip down to the briar patch. I can assure you I'll cry at least three times on it. But I also promise that I'll end it smiling, hopeful for what's to come.
