No, I didn't. That is me saying for our sake may it not happen for many years or not at all. Of course it is going to happen. Scroll back in this thread, I've said it many times it is going to happen when people suggest it isn't, there is no stopping this train.may this attraction not happen for many years or not at all.
Did you not have "not happening" as a possibility?
Remember back in August when we got the MK VP's take on Splash? No, I didn't. That is me saying for our sake may it not happen for many years or not at all. Of course it is going to happen. They quite obviously announced the attraction several years prior to when they would typically announce a refurb. I think we are many, many years away from a closure at either park. There's a ton of legwork that's done prior to closure that they supposedly haven't even begun.
...". it's going to take us a little bit of time to reimagine Splash Mountain"
I'd honestly rather them take as much time on it as they need since they've made so many, many egregious mistakes on every turn of the bend regarding both SOTS and PATF. Splash has been around for 30 plus years because it's a great piece of work: narrative, dynamic elements, show scenes, characters, etc. Something that should replace it should be as well constructed. It's never going to completely undo past transgressions, but I really hope they treat this as important as they're making it seem to be.I hope that means they're going to take the time to do this right, even call it off if they're unsure. Keep the removed animatronics just in case they need to reverse it.
They must realize they're dealing with a masterpiece and can't just bin it casually.
Indeed. They announced it in a time where thy did not predict the pandemic to go on for so long, and for travel bans to take place for as long as they did, among other setbacks.
This is why you see nothing further on it.
Even when they try to put out big "Updates" it all still comes off as very early development. Two pieces of very very vague concept art, supposed 5 hour trip to New Orleans, everything about it.Indeed.
Additionally, while there were some artist concepts done in the past regarding Splash, none of that was finalized. So, after announcing the general re-theme, they had to scramble to actually pull a trigger on a design and then begin the process of drafting the engineering of it.
Based on the last round-table video we saw, it seems that they still haven't settled on an actual re-design yet.
Remember Pandora/Avatar? They announced: "We're going to do something with Avatar!" And then they turn to each other and say, "So... what are we going to do?" Years later...

If they did so much research the first time, why did they put honey on the Beignets in the film? :xEven when they try to put out big "Updates" it all still comes off as very early development. Two pieces of very very vague concept art, supposed 5 hour trip to New Orleans, everything about it.
I think most of us down here are still scarred from the infamous "gumbo" video.. from a few years back.If they did so much research the first time, why did they put honey on the Beignets in the film? :x
People from within say otherwise. They announced it in a time where thy did not predict the pandemic to go on for so long, and for travel bans to take place for as long as they did, among other setbacks.

I think this pretty much sums up why many of us are upset about the retheme:I still think the retheme is gonna be good. Hopefully they announce it soon!
For the sake of everyone, on both sides of this argument, may this attraction not happen for many years or not at all. We saw what happened with Disney Enchantment replacing Happily Ever After (15% firework shell cut, massive degradation of projection design). One can only imagine what Disney is capable of in re-theming half a mile of dark ride track with a hamstrung budget.
I imagine very few people will be happy when this project is complete. And unlike a fireworks show that they can simply flip a switch and return Happily Ever After to the main stage after the 50th concludes, when the Splash Mountain re-theme is complete, that is going to be it likely for at least 2 decades or longer.
The once beloved and iconic attraction (that yes has ties to a problematic but albeit very, very old film) gutted and refitted to silence the critics on social media and otherwise. This isn't good for the fan. This isn't good for the cause they are claiming to be promoting. It's truly a no win situation to re-theme this attraction in the current financial state of the company.
And if Disney forecasts that the attraction is unlikely to be a net gain for them financially, you can bet their goal will be to simply strip SOTS IP from it in the cheapest way possible so they can simply move on and never read the words "Splash Mountain is racist" ever again.
I don't think anyone wants it to fail. I think a lot of people are anxious about the possibility of its failure given the amount of effort and money they seem to be putting into it (which is not a lot) combined with the general state of the quality of products Disney has recently produced (whatever the heck that kite show is). Being so critical about it just means that people care. You can critique and be critical of something and still like it or want it to succeed (which so many people in this space cannot seem to comprehend). You see over and over again, even from those who are sad about Splash in its current form leaving, that they want the retheme to be as good as the Tokyo BATB attraction.I still think the retheme is gonna be good. Hopefully they announce it soon!
I for one will enjoy the re-theme regardless of how many people hate it so it's a win to meFor the sake of everyone, on both sides of this argument, may this attraction not happen for many years or not at all. And to address the sudden (and likely soon to be denied) hypocrisy of this statement, wouldn't it also be equally as silly to hate something while also knowing minimal details about it? If the supporters of this concept are silly then so are those with opposing opinions. Just sayin'Disney: We're removing the big drop to make the ride more accessible to smaller children. In it's place we're going to add a belt driven system that gently guides the log vehicle to the bottom, no splash.
Populous: Sounds great! I don't understand why some Disney fans hate it.
This is of course a silly, extreme example but I can't understand this blind acceptance. Especially when we know next to nothing about it at this point. By all means be optimistic but...
Not really, no. I can dislike the retheme because it's a retheme. I can also appreciate the end results of said retheme if I think it'll be successful based on released information or after having ridden it. But like you said:And to address the sudden (and likely soon to be denied) hypocrisy of this statement, wouldn't it also be equally as silly to hate something while also knowing minimal details about it?
