The thing about stories is once they are out there, they do not belong to anyone. The frustrating thing is if people consider J. Chandler Harris racist, than is Walt Disney a racist/appropriator for what he did to other tales when he adapted them and made more commercially popular versions? Good luck thinking the company should separate that. Because folks, it is about commercialism, not ethics.

I think the debate about the stories' origin misses the central point, which is that the only version that matters from Disney's perspective is their own. Song of the South is at the root of the issue. There's no undoing the fact that Disney made this movie and that the characters in Splash Mountain come from it. The same principle would apply to any other ride based on Disney's own (re)interpretation of an existing story, whether Frozen Ever After or the Magic Carpets of Aladdin.

I stand by my original solution for Magic Kingdom. Theme it to "Tortoise and the Hare" a perfectly acceptable revision with a morality tale and a plethora of critters that will keep the AAs mostly in tact. SotS characters would be scrubbed to appease those offended. The only obstacle is the lack of IP mandate. But the spin for that would be "cost" The cost to overhaul MK's Splash to a Tortoise and the Hare revision would be peanuts compared to what will presumably be needed for the PatF revision.

And yes, I am in the Bargaining Stage thank you very much!

I can't see how the existing story and scenes could be adapted for this purpose without a very extensive overhaul.

Not going to lie I'd like to see a ride based on the Silly Symphonies. The Three Little Pigs would be fun they have a catchy song and fun misadventures.

Omg, or the Cookie Carnival 🍪 😍 Or the Old windmill, I'd love love love that!!!!! That would fit in either of the current Splash spaces.

:( I still want a Sleepy Hollow ride, too.

OK. Had a long explanation but it basically boils down to retelling the duality of the original T and H Aesop fable of "slow and steady wins the race" while touching on messages of bullying, stubborness, the pitfalls of pride and race relations in a Hatfield and McCoy-like feuding families Great Race. Plot would involve a torrential rain, a flooded race track, a tricky "shortcut", a nap with dream sequence that turns into a nightmare fueled drop sequence and a finale featuring the riverboat filled with forest critters cheering on the victor and the newly-humbled runner-up. Ride ends showing the two families, together side by side as equals, the best of friends. Trite yet familiar enough so that scene vignettes are simple and easy to process. It's a working idea that's no doubt a terrible concept but I'd still prefer it or something similar over PatF which doesn't fit Fronterland. I'm sure Disney "could" make it work.

But that's the crux of the whole armchair... Disney making it work. The same could be said for the Princess and the Frog IP. Will they make it work? Only time will tell. I'm all for PatF in Disneyland. I just don't see it for MK's Frontierland yet. Need more convincing and concept art.

I think it will be more likely that Frontierland will change to fit more to fantasy like Princess and the Frog as the area moves away from western shoot em up themes. The current situation on the set of Alec Baldwin's "Rust" doesn't help the genre.

I would like to see Frontierland become more like Critter Country at Disneyland and be a home for woodland creatures. Princess and the Frog in Splash Mountain really helps insure the Country Bears can stay forever.

If you still don't think PATF can fit in Frontierland you are just mad about it in the first place. Thematically, would cartoonish bears be operating a music hall in a western goldrush town? Their music is much more southern than western swing, and it's my understanding it was part of the Country Bear popularity from opening day attributing their lovableness to familes from the south eastern U.S. traveling to Florida and listening to similar country music on the road to and from WDW.

So if the Country Bears have worked this long, PATF will fit in fine.

That's a given. I just hope they can find a way to make it pop during the day. Glitter-bombing the exterior with strings of firefly lights at night will no doubt look amazing. I just hope they can still manage to make the exterior uniquely PatF during the day. That boat better be amazing. Meanwhile, Im 99% certain they're going to take a "nighttime all the time" approach to the ride's interior saving them from having to make elaborate set peices and detailed scenes what with everything being masked under the guise of "Nightlife in New Orleans" moody darkness. Likely taking cues from Dinosaur (plants) and Navi River Journey (screenz)

As long as they can make the exterior fit within its surroundings and retain most of the interior AA critters I'll probably be happy. If not - we burn that mother down! Kidding!

They quite obviously announced the attraction several years prior to when they would typically announce a refurb. I think we are many, many years away from a closure at either park. There's a ton of legwork that's done prior to closure that they supposedly haven't even begun.
