I mean, come on, it’s pretty obvious given the subject matter and the chorus that when they wrote a song for SOTS they referenced that chorus. Obviously it’s not a copy of it but you can see where the inspiration came from. It isn’t common to just use the word “zip” in a song, especially “zip-a-dee.”

You can live in denial all you want If it makes you feel better that a song you like was likely derived from a racist song.

Yes, perhaps.

I think you missed my earlier post, though The problem with this argument is that pretty much EVERY story ever told is derived from something that came before it. Including almost everything Shakespreare wrote. Art never exists in a vacuum.

Even if we go back to one of the oldest written tales we know, The Odyssey, it existed as an evolving oral story for - likely - a few hundred years before it was ever written down.

Even in music, have you never heard how Yankee Doodle was repurposed? Or how we re-worded God Save the Queen?

You appear to be saying there's no such thing as evolution or redemption.

Well, that is what it seems the great majority now believe. Or else they wouldn’t be replacing Splash

Berry Gordy, Louis Armstrong and the Jackson 5 are Uncle Toms??

(insert twilight zone music here)

That's kinda what I'm not getting in pitting two black doo-wop groups against each other as a comparison re: Berry Gordy and his desire to do anything for $$$.

Is that what Phil's trying to say re: the Jackson 5 recording Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah? Doing anything for $$$?

Because Berry was already a songwriter at the time and wanted to use his earnings to get into production. Then, he discovered the Miracles, and a lot of stuff happened concurrently with multiple artists, successes, etc. to make Motown take off.

Can we get a list of things that could be considered offensive at the parks?
I currently have
  • Jungle Cruise
  • Native Village (Railroad)
  • Country Bears
  • Peter Pan
  • Dumbo Circus tents
  • Hall of Presidents
  • Haunted Mansion suicide joke
  • American Adventure
  • Chris Pratt starring in a Major E Ticket
  • Zootopia in Shanghai
I’m usually only offended by the bad body odor and heavy fragrances emanating out of some visitors when I go to WDW. Yuck! I’d be okay with keeping social distancing at the parks for this very reason. 🙂

I refuse to acknowledge the blind belief of someone that wants to tell me about a connection they cannot possibly know of, as the vast majority are simply parroting what they have been told. Many horrible things in the world have happened simply because people blindly followed the ranting of others that were hellbent on manipulating them. A little short Austrian with a mustache comes to mind as a great of example of someone managing to shepherd the sheep too clueless or lazy to think for themselves.
The thread gets moved to the Politics and Social section and you immediately go to Hitler? I’m out.

Oh okay. I've said before, many pages back, that I like the characters but wish Disney would hire some black writers to give them new stories outside of Harris's writing.

Why stop at black writers? Let's get add more diversity to introduce Disney's first transgender character. I'm sure they will inspire the hearts and minds of all those who go to Disney.

There are lots of Uncle Tom's.
I'm guessing your trying to use "uncle Tom" as a derogatory term... Who exactly do you define as an "uncle Tom"? Is there a checklist you have to decide when to call someone that? Or is it just another word like "racist" that you like to use if the person you don't agree with is black? I mean quite frankly the term is by its very nature quite racist, why do you like to label people with a racist term?

“It’s okay to be racist if it fits my morally righteous agenda”

.. and he’s not even just saying that Berry etc were ok with racism for money.. he’s also saying, during the time of so much civil rights activism, black Americans weren’t smart enough to realize that they were buying a racist record. 🤦‍♀️

This is White Wokeness in a nutshell.

They're like anyone else. They all wanted big hits and they'd record anything if they thought it would sell. Here's Cab Calloway and Al Jolson in blackface:

It was just a matter of giving the audience what they wanted. White privilege is powerful.

So their black audience was not smart enough to connect the racism.. in the late 60s early 70s.

This is your claim?
