Personally, I make fun of anyone that "dresses up" as a fictional character from a movie (if they don't work for the company that owns it) and are over the age of 13. There are ways to be a fan without having to be childlike in a superficial way.

It's in someways a cultural and generational thing. I see no harm in having a little fun as long as it isn't pathological. Since when did some childlike whimsy become something that should be suppressed and made fun of?

HA! You think the public at large knows that, or cares? You give the public way too much credit.

Planes 2 will outperform Dragon 2 even though there's no doubt Dragon 2 will be of a much higher quality in both animation and writing.
So let me get this straight. You're saying Planes 2 will gross more than How to Train Your Dragon 2? Planes grossed 90 mill domestically and How to Train Your Dragon grossed 217 mill. Planes was considered a mediocre movie to the public eye when Dragon was beloved by audiences. How can Planes 2 outgross Dragons 2 if nobody is really interested in Planes 2, but are highly anticipating Dragons 2. Dragons 2 will out gross the original and might be the highest grossing movie of the summer according box office analysts. I think they know what their talking about more than you

Saw a news piece on WFTV where they interviewed Staggs. He's asked point blank about a Frozen ride for WDW and hints that an announcement could be made soon about that. I'm trying to find the video.

And People just posted this: Marines sing along to Let It Go: http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20812660,00.html

Frozen ain't going away.
nor should it...I would expect something from frozen soon..how soon who knows

Well, it's a little hard to explain. There are times and places when that is completely appropriate for an adult. There are Halloween parties, costume parties and the like. To get in costume for a public occasion to me is less appropriate, and sends a flag to me that someone is deep in arrested development. I understand that this is my opinion and not everyone agrees with my thoughts on the matter, but, it doesn't stop me from making fun of something that I find to be just a tad over childlike whimsy. I don't publicly make fun of anyone, but, you might find me grinning and shaking my head. Other then that, no one should worry about it and just live their lives. I still reserve the right to think it's silly and not really in the realm of just whimsy.

I consider many of the behaviors of people that are hardcore Star War fans to the point of dressing up as a character in the movie, boarders on pathological.

True, I look at it another way. If you are consistently the only one dressed up it's certainly eccentric and odd. If everyone else is (such as, like it or not, a Star Wars premiere) it is acceptable. After all, Japan as a Nation isn't 'developmentally arrested', they just have more liberal social norms that accept Otaku culture.

North America is heading in the same direction, there isn't the negative connotation there once was to these subcultures. People are slowly accepting things that would have gotten one pummelled in previous decades.

I completely understand that from an outside perspective though it can be amusing. I will not be wearing any costumes to Disney anytime soon. Although yes, some people might certainly fit the mould of pathological.

Planes got to $90 million (with Smurfs 2, Turbo, DM2 and Monsters U taking up family audiences the month before, plus Percy Jackson 2 opening weekend)

Without all of the competition, it would have probably gotten $110-120 million

Considering TMNT is the only major kiddie competition after Planes 2, a $140 million DOM/$210 million foreign isn't too farfetched.

Dragons 2 will be a behemoth though. $340-380 million total DOM and likely approaching $900 million to $1 billion WW if it's a solid follow-up or gets raves like the first film

Did Disney finally axe @WDW1974 ?

All I want to know about is Shanghai and Tokyo (you know, where money is actually being spent). :(

I'd assume Fantasyland and Tomorrowland will get sizable overhauls at Tokyo Disneyland

For DisneySea, I'd reckon a new land between Lost River and Arabian Coast, a new attraction for Port Discovery, Soarin' in Mediterranean Harbor, and possibly a trackless dark ride in American Waterfront (don't think there's room for any more E-tickets there but everyone claims there is)

Some sort of development outside the main resort is rumored

Basically, Tokyo is getting nice things :D while Shanghai is just making sure they have enough attractions for opening day (Toy Story Land could very well be replaced with an actual area or more Fantasyland)

This whole conversation is just funny to watch. An entire elementary school devoid of starwars? Not my experience... including my two nephews who both are obsessed with starwars.

They do a parade at my son's elementary school for Halloween (i.e. the whole school walking in their costumes) and on average there was about 1-2 people per class dressed in Star Wars stuff the past two years.

SDMT is currently the top trending topic on Facebook. Interesting.
The pixie dusters are out in full force indeed! Just spent an hour on twitter arguing with a man child with an awful podcast. Not Ricky either.

And I feel like I lose either way because I gave in.. anyone who thinks mm+ is and will be profitable is clearly lacking any knowledge of how dollars work.

Facebook trends seem to be determined more by news outlets posting about a topic, not users like Twitter is. USA Today, Variety and numerous local news outlets from around the country are among the top of the results.

You're probably 100% correct. I am just infuriated at myself for pretending that a Podcaster is capable of having any intellect whatsoever.

I can say without a doubt that only one podcast is worth my time and that is the kingdom Kast because those guys love disney world but don't hold back one bit.

The rest of them are just apologists and pixie dusters.

I think this is a much greater discussion the both you & I could dive into that really is not suitable for this message board…

That being said, I'm not sure how Disney can find that appropriate from something one of their credentialed media is producing…

After thinking about it some more, what does bug me about Lou and Ricky is that they are credentialed and standing alongside real reporters, but much of their content ends up being selfies and personal reviews weaved into their "reporting."

Being a journalist myself (you guys are right, there's lots of us on here) I'd much rather see news stories and good photography produced by folks given that kind of access. Not pictures of themselves at meet and greets.

They could be offering much more quality content.

Like I said, Lou I don't mind as much. He's found his happy, positive niche and stays in character. He writes his books and does his TV interviews.

But Ricky, how am I suppose to trust and respect a guy as a media professional when he also promotes this secondary website, hocking pinup photos that rip off Disney creative.

And anyone that thinks that the whole system is just what we see, is clearly lacking in knowledge of how business and especially Disney works. So I'd say we are even.

Nope, not a chance. This whole system is just an attempt at a pat on the back and a gold star from the top echelon of execs. It will yield no profit and may not even break even.
