I thought they have plain brown napkins now - not even generic "Disney Parks" ones. Yes. They are that magical!! :D

I wonder what @WDW1974 is going to say about that we turn this thread into a napkin discussion. Maybe we should also start getting excited about any new toilet refurbishments (are there any going on? I seem to remember new toilets at the American Adventure??). That might get him back to this thread...

I'm back, but apparently everyone is already sleeping. They likely had long weekends trying to buy Disney ticket media ahead of the price increase.

I'm used to UNI having themed napkins. And at least the Wonder DCL logo cocktail napkins. Guess Disney is afraid someone like me (who may have left DAK Lodge with enough soap to last thru the fall) might take a few home as a free memento of my MAGICal time.

DCA 1.0 looked to me like the runt of Disney's litter.

No, that was Walt Disney Studios Paris upon opening in 2002 with a whopping 9 rides, shows and attractions (it'll have 17 next year).

If @WDW1974 liked that, he will win the prize for biggest Disney fan ever. An award I'd like to see given to him if only to see the blogger crew cry salty, rage-filled tears in objection.

Instead of having a ridiculous extension of the blogger problem in the not so subtle marketing arm of Disney called the "mom's panel" ... wouldn't it be great if they held auditions for a "Fan's Insight Panel" that could provide input from a fan's perspective, could help with checks and balances, and in actuality could drive profits by actually asking fan's what they want instead of making assumptions based on nothing or random oblique surveys.

In the movie industry they call those test screenings ...

Sure the inherent problem is who makes up the panel, and naturally we couldn't trust Disney to fill the panel with educated unbiased intellects, no sadly it would be less @WDW1974 and more Mongello ...

Never mind forget the whole idea.

Ah, but the Mommy Bloggers spin whatever Disney wants and only when one gets something that another doesn't. They -- Disney believes -- pose less of a danger to the company than fanboi bloggers who tend to be about as stable as 100-year-old dynamite.

But if Disney would like to purchase my services, I'm all eyes and ears.

I'm more loveable than Lou. Ask my fanboi brigade.

Absolutely no idea. I remember it because I specifically remember how it looked out of place. Sorry!
I think the original article was one of the most interesting and informative I've seen in ages. On initial reading, everything stated by the Accountanteer sounded totally reasonable and superficially compelling. But on further reflection, it illustrated so much of what is wrong with how Disney operates, and how misguided it is to filter everything through accounting as the final arbiter. This is epitomized by the story of the sign, and how you noticed it at all, and that it was out of place. Value engineering ruins the immersive storytelling that is so carefully crafted.

And yet at the same time, it also illustrated how letting WDI run free leads to an over-engineered solution. Given the two extremes, the imagineering solution is greatly preferable since it is an example of the Disney difference (or at least what used to be the Disney difference), but as stated already the correct approach is better communication to find a reasonable compromise, coupled with leadership with vision and the authority to excercise that vision.

No offense, but I'm not part of your "brigade". I just follow along. I do, however, agree with many of your observations. And this one, I agree with wholeheartedly. The "mom's panel" is worthless. And, as a single Dad who takes his kid to Disney every year, I find them not only ignorant, but arrogant and with worthless advice.

Waste of "web money", I think.

Yikes. DCA 1.0 looked to me like the runt of Disney's litter. Now DCA 2.0 is a very different story... Wish I could visit!

WDSP is the runt of litter. Personally, they should close it down. Pour A LOT of money into DLP, build a new second gate from the ground up and make sure said gate has a talent put on it, not Fitz and Co.

@WDW1974 did George stand you up on this trip? You went from 'wheres waldo' on him to pulling back to kicking in the stall door while he's taking a leak...

Now, now, Mr. Flynn. Shirley you aren't suggesting George likes bathroom action?!?!:D

I had hoped to see George, but I wanted it to happen organically. We shall speak again when the time is right (or when he needs help ...whatever comes first).

Just because it sort of came up, I think I'd call it DCA 1.7 more than I would DCA 2.0. There is plenty that could still be brought up to par.

There are still a few "bugs" (since we're going with the software metaphor), but you can't deny that 6/15/2012 was a big relaunch of a majorly revamped product. FWIW, I call the DCA I first saw in late 2007/early 2008 "DCA 1.5", DCA after TSMM opened 1.7 and DCA with Cars Land and BVS 2.0 .

(who may have left DAK Lodge with enough soap to last thru the fall) might take a few home as a free memento of my MAGICal time.

Depends how often you use it... that could mean very different things to different people!

Social media is such a crock. Either it comes off as too amateur or too professional. To win at social media, you have to be...um...social!

I could rant for hours about SEO and how it's a crap investment, especially for a company the size of Disney with very specific marketing...

No amount of optimization is going to trump that content is king. I thought, a few years ago when Disney was asking for home videos, that they got it. But, I see they don't.

THIS!!! A million times. This!!!

Paradise Pier could be better but Hollywood Land takes the cake for the worst land in DCA and the entire resort.

From a theme perspective? I guess, but between ToT, Aladdin, Muppets, Monsters Inc. and Animation I'd prefer to spend time in it over some others (even, *gasp* Tomorrowland  ).

I Disagree, I don't think WDSP is beyond salvageable. I actually liked it and in my report on DLP said it had a better attraction/show mix than DHS does now. It needs better looking buildings (especially the "Backlot") and more rides, but I think more are coming and their appears to be a real recognition that the park needs to be better if they want to sell it as a day trip onto itself (which Disney admits it does).

I still don't get the name "Hollywood Land"... Why not just Hollywood?

Hmmm.

Exactly. Why not just keep it period-appropriate and call it Holywoodland, as it read years and years ago?

You have to wonder what the people at Disney are thinking, or not thinking.
