The challenge is.. these aren't just 'IT Upgrades' - it's like building out a city. wifi over many many square miles both indoors AND outdoors.. for tens of thousands of concurrent users.. oh and getting network to all those thousands of WAPs.. through existing structures. And that's just the physical 'cable plant'. Now do all the network management, bandwidth, etc. Ok, great.. now you just have a network. What about all those applications?

Just touching the hotel systems like they did I'm sure cost then several hundred million dollars. And the sad thing is.. the poor performance we've heard of.

Often in these discussions we forget the true scale of WDW... in both physical and capacity points of view. The numbers are just mind boggling compared to traditional deployments.
That's part true, we don't know what is in place. If Disney had to expland or replace fiber, CAT cable or microwave radio relay. A lot of Disney technology may be from 1984-1999 when many of the resorts and parks were built.

When I was at the Beach Club I noticed their phones at check-in were from 1999. I know this because I just replaced the same exact system with VOIP. Now wait until we hear their phone system needs upgraded, unless they are including this into the project.

This project could be like a Senete bill, all kinds of hidden cost.

I'm back from my 0.43% month long vacation to the mountains of Afghanistan and am getting completely caught up. Does the DAK makeover budget also include a few $$$ to finally fix the yeti? I get that fixing it would be expendable but it would be a nice acknowledgement of the problem. Thanks!
Thank you, Ed, for your service!

This is the most telling part of this that many on here argued for years:

The fact is that while DCA's makeover was going on it was the only time in Disney World's History where they went more than 3 years without building an E-ticket.

Really? That shocks me. Can you flesh that out a little? I guess I'm not seeing that.

They're doing significant animation work with the Autodesk software used in the films behind the scenes. Digital steel beams, if you will.

So you said "They're doing significant work with the Autodesk software" and then you said "Maybe it's not Autodesk?"
How dare people question your credibility! lol Good work timmy....good work
Autodesk MotionBuilder. I knew it was made by Autodesk but also that the software had a different name. I wasn't sure what they were calling it. Now I am.

I don't know why, but I just like you Ed . I hope you got to stay at the lovely new Kabul Disney Vacation Club and Villas. I hear it is just amazing. At least that's what Mongello said after Celebration Place sent him there for a week.

Glad you are back safe and sound, yet not sane enough to think the yeti will ever be fixed.

Hey @Lee get that lube and get to DAK!!!

The terrain of Afghanistan is actually really beautiful if you like mountains; it's very similar to the Canadian Rockies in areas. I must have missed the DVC Kabul but I wasn't around that town very much. Trust me, there was no DVC where I was....the locals don't seem to like Mickey very much for some reason.

As to the sanity issue, please forgive me and chalk it up to making up for lost time involving several carefully selected craft beers.

Second, regarding the sign he's talking about - it's a digitally printed sign. I can only guess, but as someone who is big on show quality, if I saw a digitally printed sign (which by definition is a piece of paper) in a themed environment, well, maybe to the Accountineer, it was good enough, but to the WDI person or myself, it would stick out like a sore thumb. Now, WDI didn't have to specify they spend $1k, but they were doing what they're used to doing - what Ops should have done was gone back to WDI and said "this is a temporary sign for a 3 month use - can you please give us something that's going to cost $200, not $1k." Of course, no one communicated. The problem with large corporations with multiple divisions: people don't talk to each other.

Did anyone listen to Mongello's latest show about the top ten signs in WDW?! So compelling!

Saw Lou at Disneyland last week, where he had been flown out for the opening of Mickey and the Magical Map. It definitely took me aback that he was there. Still trying to figure out how to get those free cross-country trips!

Now DL is using him too?! I thought @WDW1974 said his days were numbered ... that's paraphrasing of course, '74.

It's funny you say that as it's exactly what crossed my mind pretty much every night during the fireworks (or on the Monorail back) on our trip earlier this month. The grand-scale production that is Walt Disney World daily operations is mind boggling as you say. Or as I like to say "rediculous".

Did anyone ever follow up on the Spirit's report that Lou's been known to flash a maingate?
